(from the bleeds...)
the wife and I are looking to go away around christmas/new years this year and are having a hell of a time finding a place that isn't booked/is affordable.
looking for someplace tropical with awesome beaches and not a million miles away.
any thoughts on the matter, specific or general, would be appreciated.

dino, was it a resort? we generally like to rent a house and avoid other humans as much as possible, but are a little more open this time around to an all-inclusive resort if the price is right.

Flesh, when you say "affordable", how much are you looking to spend and how many days are you looking to stay there?
Jamaica is pretty affordable.

Flesh, it was an all inclusive resort. Can't remember what the cost was but it was pretty reasonable. Did it through a travel agent (extremely rare for us.)

You need to discover Hatteras island, NC.

i'm a little wary of jamaica. i feel like it's walled off resorts surrounded by angry natives. maybe i'm wrong.
i guess we're looking to spend around 4 grand for everything. cheaper would be great, but at that time of year, don't see it happening.

lot of love for NC on this board. problem is, we don't golf, fish or do stuff like that which i feel NC is known for.
kind of want to see palm trees and white beaches.

It is definitely a country of savages, but living in your gated paradise protected by guards with assault rifles makes you feel important.

I agree with Dino, Hatteras is extremely nice and very very under developed. Avon is a nice town there. Been there a few times.

I just got back from Avon. Didn't golf or fish. Hung out by the pool or on the beach all weekend. Great to walk on a beach and maybe see 10 other people.

this time of year with 4 grand you could get a 5 bedroom house on the beach with a pool and a hot tub in Avon and have about 2 grand left over.

There's also some nice restaurants if you head down to Buxton or if youre ambitious enough to make the trek to Ocracoke. Very nice area down there.
