Still trying to understand how the headline "First murder of the year in Chester" on an article about the first murder of the year in Chester is misleading.
Just sayin.

So she's had it for three years while still cooking and selling her disgusting food. Everything deep fried with multiple sticks of butter. I never liked her.

I immediately thought back to the first lady's pet project to teach kids about healthy eating followed by the backlash from retarded hillbillies and those like Sarah Palin, who were bringing brownies into school to teach kids about freedom.
I don't have any real problem with Paula Dean and don't wish anyone ill, but I think what she was doing was fairly unethical.
Beyond that, it kind of put an exclamation point on the food debate in this country, given her fame, her career, and the nature of her disease.

Unethithical? Really? That's not a bit extreme? Unethical, IMO, is Magic Johnson shilling Rent-A-Center or any of these other bullshit celebrities getting paid to advertise shit they'd never use and would have to admit are borderline scams. I don't really like her show but I think any moron would realize that her style of cooking was for only once in a while indulgence.

I dunno...what would you call making a living on teaching people how to make food that is literally killing her, only acknowledging that she even has the disease when she cuts a deal with a drug company to endorse medicine to treat the disease her style of cooking causes?

I never really got into her after watching a couple of her recipes. You can say that people need to watch more of what they eat, and have to know that most of the stuff she puts in her food just isn't good for you, but the fact that she was pushing it on people in a high-profile role (while she herself couldn't get into some of it) is just plain wrong, like FD said.
And she tries to justify it with this quote:
“I’ve always encouraged moderation!. . . I’ve always eaten in moderation!. . . Honey, I’m your cook, not your doctor.”
Ugh.

For a comparison, GGB, what if someone made a living doing a TV show that toured tobacco farms and sampled all the world's best cigarettes. Then, Doctors discovered he had throat cancer and he continued doing his "joys of smoking" show for three more years until a Chantix paid him to endorse a pill that helped people quit smoking.
Oh, and he still owns/operates branded tobacco shops that have lines around the block for his XXX potent personal cigarette blend.
That's kind of what I'm saying...I think it's fairly unethical.

Let me ask you this. How many people do you actually think employed, as a result of her show, her style of cooking and exact repices more than...once in a great while? I would wager the number is quite small. So while the ehtical/unethical question might still be up for debate, I think that debate exists in a vacuum.
I don't care for her that much anyway, it is off-putting to watch fat chefs, IMO. Which is why The Neely's don't make the cut either. Barefoot Contessa barely makes it just because her show is so relaxing, and Giada makes it on her own obvious merits.

I'm not sure, but there had to be some acceptance for her to become as popular as she became. Obviously we're not talking Emeril-level, she's obviously more popular than someone like Christine Pirello, right?

I guess my point is, far more people WATCH cooking shows than actually employ the recipes and techniques on a regular basis.

Do you think she was eating Krispy Creme cake every day, either? I'd argue it was more of a lifestyle show, as are most of these types of cooking shows. It's food porn.
Statistically, more than 1 out of every 10 viewers watching her has type 2 diabetes, though, and demographically, I'm guessing higher.
Like I said, though, I just find it a little unethical once she knew she had actually given herself a disease by eating the food she was teaching people to make.

I could not get the original link to open, is that where they said 1 in 10 viewers has diabetes? And I confess I've never seen her advertise a diabetes medecine. Come to think of it, I was not aware one existed beside insulin...

Here's a foolish question - would people still be able to eat the same way if they take this medicine she's shilling?
It'd be interesting as to why she decided to come out with this now - also, if she's putting out a new line of "diabetic-friendly" recipes in addition to her "gettin' you to this point" ones already in circulation.

GGB, the "1 in 10" was just statistical. In the US, 11% of the population over age 20 has diabetes. I was saying that's just a statistical fact and I'm guessing the demographics for her show are likely higher, but I wasn't attributing her, directly, to causing all their diseases.
Here's a link to the drug she's pitching...I don't know anything about it, but it seems like some kind of alternative to insulin.

And GGB, her endorsement of the medicine is brand new. She just revealed she had diabetes this week, as part of her promotional tour for the drug to control it.

Also, I want to be clear that I'm not trying to crucify her or anything. I said I thought it was a "little unethical".
It just made me think back to the uproar over Michelle Obama trying to get kids to eat vegetables and the right wing extremists turning that into an attack on freedom instead basic health.
Yes, we have the freedom to at how we like for the most part, but no..."Southern Cooking" is not the type of eating we should encourage for good health.

Reading her interview, she said she didn't reveal her condition to anyone outside close fam because "she had nothing to offer". Can't say I buy into that.
Hey, I'm not saying she's the #1 reason why diabetes is running rampant, but if she was concerned about her food having a "lighter touch", she should've done that three years ago, and not after she's signed on to be the spokesperson for a pharm agency.
It just seems nothing more than a cash grab; though, again, people need to be smarter as to what they consume.
