I dunno, as f-d stated earlier, this case hinges on exactly WTF happened. Yes, this guy sounds like a blowhard vigilante that disobeyed police orders, but if Martin was aware he was being followed (as he was, by text message) and somehow doubled back and came after the guy or something and took him to the ground does that Stand your ground law somehow come into play in a fucked up way?


Tragic case, out for being a juror on this one. I still can't figure out the "Self-Appointed Neighborhood Watch Packing Heat" shit either.

Still, if you were being followed by some weirdo for blocks, is it against the law to turn and ask "What the fuck is your problem?"

Negotiated Settlement: Zimmerman goes to jail for 20 years and the wearing of a hoodie becomes a public declaration of your intent to commmit a crime and soon.

Yeah, I really think this guy ha to go down for something.

His absolute best case scenario is he's able to successfully convince investigators that he was attacked, overpowered by a small child, and had to shoot him to protect his own life.

The stalking beforehand is totally shady. The following after being told not to follow is shady. The way it all went down is shady.

For example, his claim (as I've heard it) is after stalking this innocent child creepily and scaring him to the point where the kid tried to run away, he called 911 and began chasing the kid on foot (even after being told not to).

Then, he claims he went back to his car and the kid jumped out/surprised him. The kid asks him what his problem is. He says "nothing" (continuing to add to the creep factor). The kid say "you have one now" and attacks him with an amazing display of force, immediately dropping the guy and smashing his head into the concrete.

Then, this guy who was totally caught off guard, has no fighting or defensive skills whatsoever, and who is being beaten within an inch of his life in the blink of an eye...somehow manages to unholster his gun and shoot the kid in the chest.

His injuries are so severe he requires no real medical attention and isn't taken to the hospital. He tells the cops it was self defense. They say that makes sense and they let him go.

Even if his totally unbelievable story is true, he has to be guilty of something. I don't know the law in Florida, but maybe manslaughter.

If he somehow gets off, the law needs to be changed because that would be some kind of fucked up loophole where a teenager being stalked by an armed grown up who outweighs him by 50 lbs. has to wait to be mugged, raped, or murdered before he attempts to defend himself and if he does defend himself, has opened himself up to being legally murdered by his overmatched, obvious pussy attacker.

Kind of hard to believe Zimmerman's story of being attacked by Trayvon after seeing the police footage of him with no visible injuries.

I thought I read or saw he had a broken nose, not that that changes the circumstances much.

GGB, his attorney has said his nose was broken during the fight, but pictures taken afterword show no evidence of an injury and he wasn't treated for an injury.

And this is really all window dressing. If you heard some creep was chasing children creepily and he got his nose broken you'd say "sounds fair".

Its grainy, but shows what appears to be a fine Zimmerman, no bloody back of head from bein slammed repeatedly to curb, and no busted nose or signs thereof- swelling or blood.

It depends on the bloody nose. He certainly wouldn't have to have blood. However, it sure as hell would be swollen.

Did they test Zimmerman for drugs or alcohol? I thought cops always did that for altercations.

The real burdens of proof are: stand your ground/self defense AND racial profiling to establish a "hate" crime.

A totally senseless death. Even if he isn't convicted, this guy is a serious douche.

As for a trial, I think he can get a fair trial. Yes, public sentiment is that he's an asshole, but the judge will outline the terms of the charges to the jury. Plus, I have no doubt there will be several less pigmented folks who feel he's being dealt an unjust hand and rule for him BECAUSE they feel he's being wronged (even if he unnecessarily killed a teenager).

In the US, there are over 10,000 deaths a year due to hand guns; there are over 700,000 injuries a year due to handguns, there's approximately 90 guns for every 100 U.S citizens.

In 1988 lawn darts were banned as the result of 3 deaths.

Police officers in the UK do not routinely carry firearms except at national ports of entry and those on diplomatic security, but may carry a side baton and/or pepper spray.
