“It would have been nice if it was a different one.”

Hartnell cut his hair. Nothing else new with the Flyboys.

Nice article on Pelle Lindbergh - 25 years later.
Pelle = great goalie but not a good drunk driver...
Was at the Falcons vs. Eagles game at the Vet when they announced his bad night during the game.
Vet went very quiet. Then Jaws passed to Quick for a 99 yard TD and it got very loud again.

I'm not the biggest fan of Carter or the actual length of this deal but an average annual cap hit of $5.27M for a guy who scores 35+ a year is a good deal.
If he can adjust to playing wing, this could be a steal.

Carter is also tied for first in the league with three game-goals, which may be the most important stat for a goal scorer.
It seems to be fashionable to bitch about Holmgren, but the fact is that over the past couple of years, he has assembled one of the best teams in the NHL, and now he's locking up his key players for the foreseeable future in deals that aren't paralyzing for the cap. People complained to high heaven about the Mezaros trade and the O'Donnell signing, but Mezaros is a +11 and O'Donnell is a +9. Meanwhile, Simon Gagne is a -8 with zero points who will be on injured reserve for the foreseeable future.
The most common complaint about Holmgren is that he didn't acquire a top flight goalie, but top flight goalies just don't grow on trees. Holmgren was spurned by Marty Turco, which may be a blessing in disguise because Bobrovsky looks like he has a high ceiling, and he's already playing great. I think Holmgren made a really smart move in prioritizing the defense, and now the Flyers have the premier defensive unit in the NHL.
Of course, none of this matters until the playoffs, but I don't think anyone should be faulting Holmgren's moves right now.

I'm really enjoying this run the Flyers are having.
Wonder how the JVR/Nodl issue will play out. Giroux already secured his contract, if this healthy scratch stuff doesn't light a fire under JVR's ass, not sure what will.
To tag on to Talon's comments, I'm truly impressed with how the defense is playing overall. If this helps give more breathing room over the season for the Pronger and Timmonen, I think the Flyers have a good chance at making another run in the playoffs.
Lots of hockey and games to play.

Talon, I will be the first to admit that I was pissed at the trade. Holmgren was in such a bad position that I'm willing to bet he had to add Walker's dead money just to get the Lightning to take Gagne. However, I can't argue with the results so far. Gagne may end up having to retire if he has another concussion or vertigo.
Maybe Holmgren knew what he was doing all along. Gagne is only 30 but he has a lot of miles on his body. He simply can't stay healthy.

That seemed to be the knock on Gagne for the past few years.
It was a shame that he had to be shipped out of town after his heroics in the playoffs, but when you have an uncertain injury history and a high cap number, that's a bad combo.

Some of the "highlights" include (maybe c&p from another site, this was all sent in an email)
-GM's don't get the refs they like for their games unless they suck up to Campbell
-Campbell trashes Marc Savard and calls him a "fake artist." Said he hated him when he coached him with the Rangers. Apparently this is why he refused to suspend Matt Cooke last year for the cheap shot on Savard.
-Instructed Walkom to inflict disciplinary action on referees who called penalties on his son
