El Al aircraft also have stronger cargo holds to mitigate damage from a bomb going off and the cockpits are "enclosed" unlike US aircraft which just have the door reinforced.
I agree with FD on security on the Israeli scale would be very hard to implement let alone achieve in a system as large as ours.

it would probably cost a fortune, INCREASE delays, and make airports look like a war zone.
sounds like a plan

Oklahoma City bombing - White
Moscow theater siege/Chechnya attacks/Jihad Jane - Women
9/11 - Arabs
Shoe Bomber - British
Christmas Day Liar Liar Pants on Fire - African
Fort Hood massacre - Arab-American soldier
Guy who was plotting to blow up synagogues in NYC - Black

Not to mention that recent story where a guy boarded a plan overseas disguised as an old woman. It wasn't terror related, but it's not crazy to think someone else could try to pull that off for more nefarious reasons.

The concept behind Israeli security as I understand it is that they are looking for people, not things.
There is some profiling but EVERYONE gets inerviewed. I am by no means anything close to an expert on this and there's lots of conflicting stuff out there on the interwebs.
I thought this article (from those goddamned hippies at NPR) to be informative. click here

Yeah, I guess when the terrorist bypasses the full body scanner by shoving a bomb up his ass the next logical step would be for everyone getting on an airplane to be anally probed.
Might as well start now. So far the TSA only chases the latest threat rather than anticipating the newest one.
Let's just skip to where this is inevitably headed.

Not increase government snooping Freddy, IMPROVE it. I don't see how it can be increased after they've grabbed your balls already

Wait, I thought the body scanners don't look in the body, only an imaging of what is on it? It's not like an XRay machine that looks what's in the body. Metal detectors aren't picking up soda bottles filled with plastique up some dude's ass or some chick's cootch either so watch out for people who are walking funny at airports.

TSA confiscates heavily-armed soldier's nail clippers on his way home from Afghanistan:
TSA Guy: You can’t take those on the plane.
Soldier: What? I’ve had them since we left country.
TSA Guy: You’re not suppose to have them.
Soldier: Why?
TSA Guy: They can be used as a weapon.
Soldier: [touches butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon. And I’m allowed to take it on.
TSA Guy: Yeah but you can’t use it to take over the plane. You don’t have bullets.
Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers?
TSA Guy: [awkward silence]

Fred for one of the few times I can recall. I am inclined to agree with you due to the nature of the flight in SZR's post. As it appears it was military..... AKA a private charter.... It is NOT normally subject to screening.
I think there is some Bravo Sierra attached to that one.

Absolutely. The best place to start attacking is the bottom of the pyramid.
For example, if you think the war in Iraq is being mismanaged, you kill soldiers on the ground.

I bet those TSA cretins are gonna pound Four Loco and laugh their asses off at the micro-dick slide show they'll create from the scanner images after they jerk off to our wives!
