Seriously Talon, the only way to defeat the terrorists is to implant $tarbucks and McDonald$ on every oasis and canyon in that wasteland in an effort to hook them on capitalism. Once they want what we're selling then they'll care less about IED's and virgins and more about chicken nuggets and frapolapacchinos (or whatever they are called).

Hell, if the government spend half the military budget on the offensive there on franchises of these kinds of brands out there handing out free food and coffee it'd probably be cheaper than sending out troops there in the first place.

Airside caterers, crews, et al, bypass security almost entirely while pilots can't carry a nail file onto a plane.

"Although the X-ray and metal detector rigmarole is mandatory for pilots and flight attendants, many other airport workers, including those with regular access to aircraft -- to cabins, cockpits, galleys and freight compartments -- are exempt. That's correct. Uniformed pilots cannot carry butter knives onto an airplane, yet apron workers and contract ground support staff -- cargo loaders, baggage handlers, fuelers, cabin cleaners, caterers -- can, as a matter of routine, bypass TSA inspection entirely.

All workers with airside privileges are subject to fingerprinting, a 10-year criminal background investigation and crosschecking against terror watch lists. Additionally they are subject to random physical checks by TSA. But here's what one apron worker at New York's Kennedy airport recently told me:

"All I need is my Port Authority ID, which I swipe through a turnstile. The 'sterile area' door is not watched over by any hired security or by TSA. I have worked at JFK for more than three years now and I have yet to be randomly searched. Really the only TSA presence we notice is when the blue-shirts come down to the cafeteria to get food."

The TSA isn't competent enough to manage a McDonalds let alone our country's airport security.

I'm not saying we're overreacting. I'm saying the terrorists have won because they accomplished their goal. We lost, and we're just trying to prevent further damage, which of course, just plays into their hand.

the terrorist's goal, or at least bin laden's, was to draw us into expensive, quagmire conflicts. in that regard they were successful. but with regard to us living in fear, or bringing down the west, they have not won. yes, the patriot act has some repulsive elements to it, and traveling is more of a hassle, but america goes on. you, and i, live in terror target number #1 - do you live in fear? i don't. again, america, and our lives, continue, while the islamist mutts still squat in their caves and their hovels, polishing their AKs, and mumbling the koran through their decaying teeth. they haven't won shit.

The War On Terror is very shortsighted because on one hand, it's totally reactionary to things that happened yesterday, and on the other hand, it's predicated on the notion that we can somehow kill every terrorist. However, every time we "smoke 'em out" and kill a terrorist we just create three more terrorists hell-bent on revenge.

declaring a "war on ..." is always foolish, agreed. but i have no problem at all with an international policy to track and kill terrorists with the will and the capabilities to harm our interests and kill americans.

The only way to stop this downward spiral is to give them a lot less stuff to bitch about. Solve the Israel-Palestinian problem, and much of this mess goes away. But there's no easy solution for that.

that would be a good start, but i think the isreal-palestinian confict is, and always has been, a pretext for their rage against the west and their fundamentalist ideology to spread islam througout the world. i believe that the real problem started not with israel, but when the medieval middle east got rich by striking oil. this allowed islamist ideology to gain money and an international platform.

No, and I don't know a single person who lives here in fear. Of course, the bizarre irony is that the people who live in Terror Target #1 aren't afraid, yet so many people who live in rural and suburban America are panicked. I can't tell you how many non-New Yorkers believed that the "Ground Zero mosque" was part of some sort of Al Qaeda plot to create another massive terror attack on downtown Manhattan.

Considering how insecure the NYC subway system is, I always point to the lack of attacks in it as proof that Al Qaeda is either unorganized or not very smart.

i don't. again, america, and our lives, continue, while the islamist mutts still squat in their caves and their hovels, polishing their AKs, and mumbling the koran through their decaying teeth. they haven't won shit.

Well, they have certainly changed our way of life. In the grand scheme of things, some extra security procedures and just a bump in the road, but there have been plenty of breaches of Americans' precious civil liberties in the name of preventing a potential terror attack. Some of these breaches were necessary, and others were not, but at the end of the day, while we live on, our lives post-9/11 are certainly different.

but i have no problem at all with an international policy to track and kill terrorists with the will and the capabilities to harm our interests and kill americans.

I agree that this needs to be done, but I also believe that this is not going to solve the problem. We'll never be able to kill them all because their numbers seem to grow exponentially every time they suffer a loss. At a certain point, someone is going to have to examine why they think the way they do (even though those thoughts involve twisted logic), and we're going to both sell our message better and change our policies (to a certain extent) so they'll have less reason to hate us. Continuing in the current vein isn't bringing us any closer to the end of this war.

i believe that the real problem started not with israel, but when the medieval middle east got rich by striking oil. this allowed islamist ideology to gain money and an international platform.

At some point, it would be nice if a Democrat stopped acting like a total pussy and raised this very fucking point when talking about renewable energy. Hate Islamic extremism in the Middle East? Then the world needs to stop using oil, and once the Middle East has no money, how are they going to buy bombs, missiles, and nuclear weaponry?

Perhaps Lincoln was already shot earlier in this tangent-laden thread, but this story is a little hard to believe.

Man arrested after ejaculating during TSA pat-down

Why would they arrest a guy for jizzing in his pants? Jizzing in the TSA dudes face would be another story.

Here's another gem that should put everyone's mind at ease:

CIA: Al Qaeda developing suppository explosive device

December 1, 2010 by Dead Serious News · Leave a Comment

Al Qaeda, buoyed by the TSA’s reaction to last year’s underwear bomb, is developing a suppository bomb, according to a press release by the Central Intelligence Agency.

The CIA has been monitoring Al Qaeda “chatter” since the well publicized TSA screenings started. The terrorist group is claiming victory, although the underwear bomb failed to detonate. “Americans are having to endure sexual molestation and having their wives and daughters leered at by lesbians,” according to one intercepted Al Qaeda communique. “An exploding suppository, successful or not, will lead to mass rape of the infidels,” an inference to possible cavity searches by the TSA.

A TSA spokesperson refused to comment on the possibility of cavity searches, other than saying “all options were on the table to detect suppository explosive devices.”

Yeah, I think it's a "made up" news site. It's been copied/pasted all over the blogosphere, but it didn't even trick Fox Nation.

Plus, the guy who was allegedly arrested is named Percy Cummings? NTFF!

(wipes egg off face)

I just looked at some of the stories on that page, and I thought they were real because they weren't funny at all. It just seemed like a site that culled strange news.

Then I saw the front page with Starbucks' new "Ghetto Mocha" coffee blend and Small start-up cashes in on Camel Toe fad. Also, I should've noticed that the site was powered by bovine excrement.

I thought the same thing...neither was funny and the pants creamer, especially, didn't sound real, so I first assumed it was just made up by a blogger to create a stir.

Then I just clicked on April 2010 and the articles were:

"Dateless fat chick goes to NHL playoff game instead of prom"

"Democrats’ “Thank a baby killer” campaign targets pro-lifers"

Having been keyed into Afghanistan several years ago, I would suggest that the threat Islamic fundamentalists from the Middle East pose to the United States, at this time, remains minimal. Part of the reason for this is that no completely safe haven exists for terrorist organizations that don't want to be bossed around or harassed, at least in part, by their host country (Pakistan, Iran). Obviously, Pakistan seems to be the place du jour, but it's not as enviable a base of operations as Afghanistan (because the Taliban owned Afghanistan).
The changes that have taken place in this country regarding security, then, appear to me as follows:
1) Common sense decisions implemented over time (and perhaps not as efficiently as awe would like, D'uh, it's the government) in order to combat the growing destructive power available to the individual vis a vis the collective.
2) Fear-mongering tactics designed to give greater authority and autonomy to government security institutions (who always want more autonomy and authority).
3) Graft.
4) There may be other interpretations, but I don't know them.
All this being said, the number one solution to any security problem we face has already been listed. Eliminate dependence upon foreign oil. That would accomplish several objectives:
1) Reduce the payoff to nations actively funding terrorism.
2) Eliminate our concern regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, saving money and time, as well as improving our international prestige.
3) Eliminate the national trade deficit.
4) Create an expansive new industry for American laborers with no tax burden.
5) Fashion a cleaner environment.
6) Eliminate the need for the Bush dynasty to continue infesting our government with their family members so that they can send our military to the Middle East to defend their oil interests (saving money and lives).
