Time Bandits is still one of my favorites. It is so stupid it is hilarious. I always thought it was kind of cool Sean Connery was willing to take such a small role.

Different actors. Bennett was played by Vernon Wells, I think his only other well known movie was in Mad Max 2, where he was one of Humungus' buddies.

I was always partial to Bennett from Commando. Very few modern villains can pull off a Freddie Mercury mustache and chainmail vest.
ntf, i just watched that again recently and really appreciated how his character could never be recreated in modern times. he had a belly that hung over his belt and his arms looked like he had never done so much as a pushup in his life.
like, there was literally no gym time or even diet for that dude when he was prepping for a character that was supposed to be in the same physical ballpark as arnold schwartzenegger. he just rolled out of bed, pulled on his chain shirt, kit the craft table,stubbed out his cigarette and jumped on set.
fantastic.

Funny you guys should mention rediscovery...I think it was Easter weekend that HDnet movies ran a double bill of Dr. Strangelove and Outland. I watched both again, as they were movies that I discovered and loved as a teenager.
First Strangelove;
The dark humor is still there, and I still get the irony of the thing, but I am reluctant to share it with my son, mainly because he has no frame of reference for the movie. He has no notion of the Cold War, nor of the nuclear threat which was pivotal in the plot and humor of the film. I did appreciate the way that the firefights were filmed in mostly a WWII "you were there" style which is emphasized by the black & white.
Now Outland;
I am firmly convinced that this movie is destined to be one of the most underrated and overlooked movies of the 80's. Yeah, I know that it's pretty much a western in the backdrop of space, but I'll be damned if Connery doesn't pull off the role of sheriff with amazing versatility. The "relationship" tension between his character and that of the station doctor is well done and rightfully unfulfilled. I think that if this was done today, there would probably be some cheesy sex scene that Connery's character would have to superficially dismiss. The effects are appropriate of the time, and it does look rather "Alien-ish", but I think that the plot and acting does stand the test of time. Connery's good.

Dr. Strangelove is definitely in my top 20 all time. Peter Sellers is phenomenal and Slim Pickens is priceless at the end.

My wife mentioned sometime similar to this also the other day. It's really annoying. It's not just with movies either, most TV shows start with some sort of tension and then blow it.

Finally watched Django Unchained last night. It probably shouldn't have even sniffed any "best picture" type buzz, but I did find it totally enjoyable. Probably the most linear Tarentino flick yet.
Also I agree with FD that Cristoph Waltz is amazing.

just watched django myself this week and have to offer a contrarian view, naturally.
about a half hour into the movie, my wife says to me "what's so great about christopher waltz's performance?" i stopped, thought about it and said, "you know, you're right, nothing" his character was much more interesting in basterds. in fact, it really just felt like a watered down version of the same character and his whole deal really didn't make much sense. his motivations, his history, his bond with django - felt nothing for any of it. very amateurish character, actually.
now dicaprio's foppish, sadisitic and unhinged slaver was excellent, as always, and by far the best part of the movie, imo. def. in the conversation of best, most versatile screen actor of his time.

i do agree with this. no substance to this movie whatsoever. it's style and soundtrack make it palatable, but that's about it.

Is there any doubt the definitive Lincoln biopic of 2012 was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter? Also, what did a white actor with a SAG card have to do to not be cast in Lincoln? Punch one of Will Smith's kids in the throat?

I actually enjoyed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Not as good as Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, obviously, but pretty enjoyable nonetheless.

I found it pretty shameful that lamestream Spielberg's Lincoln completely glossed over his heroic past.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
If you find British wit and making fun of Indian people funny, you will love it.
If you don't, avoid this movie like a plague

would honestly rather kill myself than watch a movie about old people letting go and finding that youthful spirit and learning how to smile again.
who forced you to watch that?
