I don't think they're too far off from last season. Utley was out at the beginning of last year too. Howard joins him this year, but they have a full year of Pence. I think Mayberry/Nix/Pierre can outperform Ibanez. They have a much better bench. Bullpen seems about the same. Losing Oswalt hurts but he was injured and inconsistent last year. They might even re-sign him later, which I hope they do. A lot will depend of Worley's year.

I do trust that they will make a deal at the deadline to plug holes. It's happened three years in a row and it will likely happen again.

also, offense is down everywhere. despite all their woes, they're still above the nl average in offense the last few years, including last year. there were 5 total runs in the first 3 games today, all 3 included nl east teams.

plus the phils won with small ball. and jimmy's first inning bunt was a thing of beauty

He's 2-0 with a 1.71 era vs Phils KB, and not just Phils but he did VERY well in interleague play vs Nat'l league.

ANd yes, O was down everywhere today- 4 games on but no runs for a lonnnng time.
