Is Popeye Jones' kid on that team? He's projected to be a top 5 pick in next year's draft.

Yep, he's one of the higher profile guys. Has a bunch of points in the Tourney.

But mostly it's these ragtag 5th and 6th rounder types who've come through the NCAA. You can see USA hockey has drifted away from the thuggery and towards a purer skating & passing style. Fun to watch

Well, I'm glad Hockey is back. However, I'm not sure this CBA really resolved much.

The only huge change is that teams can no longer circumvent the salary cap with Kovalchuk-like contracts (7 years max and 8 if it's with your own team). Also, there are rumors that a player will now count against the cap even if he's sent to the minors (Which saves owners from themselves). Salary variance also drops from 50 to 35 percent on a year-to-year basis.

Everything else is a quick fix that won't help a thing in the long run. The salary floor is still too high ($44M) even though the cap dropped to $60M this year and will increase to $64.3M next year. There is also reportedly an amnesty buyout of up to two players over the next two years at 2/3 of the remaining salary.

Either way, I'm glad to be talking about Hockey again.

heard about the amnesty buyout of up to 2 players per team.

Bryz? out?

Is it possible?

Yes, they could get rid of him as soon as next offseason if I understand correctly.

I saw some people speculating Briere would be another candidate - not sure that'd be necessary unless there are some monster UFAs next year.

Enrico Ciccone (Yes, the former NHL tough guy) has said that the Flyers are interested in Roberto Luongo. (via ProHockeyTalk)

What I would like to know is: How the fuck is this even possible? If they want Luongo, they would have to trade or buy out Bryzgalov (If they buy him out after next season, they eat 2/3 of his salary over 12 years. That's the best-case scenario.)

Also, if the Flyers trade Bryzgalov and he retires 3 years from now, both the Flyers and the team he was traded to will be responsible for some of the cap hit of his remaining years.

The below article explains it best. Basically, if by some miracle they find a team dumb enough to take him after next season and he retires with 3 years left on his deal, they have to eat 6.9M in dead cap space over those 3 years (total salary of his time here - total cap hit of his time here).

This rule could royally fuck the Devils if Kovalchuk retires to the KHL sometime in the next 5 years.

Giroux named team captain. No surprise there.

After what happened to Lindros, Primeau, Richards, and Pronger, you would think the Flyers would try going without a captain for a change. That letter is a curse.

Anyone know when the playoffs and Cup finals would theoretically start? I know the regular season ends later than usual, but I'm not sure how much later, and NHL.com doesn't have anything listed for a playoff schedule. I've read that the final could end as late as June 28th, but that was said before the schedule was finalized. How many days are typically off before the playoffs begin?

I'm just trying to figure out work and vacation schedules for May and June, but I'm not seeing, so I'd appreciate any info.

Munch, I had Gamecentre last year. It's excellent. What really makes it for me is that you can watch games on demand.

At $50 I'd recommend it to just about anyone with a decent monitor.

I'm all for the NHL.

They should start the regular season every year the weekend after the Super Bowl.
