And for the record, I still think Manning is the best in the NFL and Brady is best clutch player in teh league (at any position).

I was just saying that "right now" McNabb is playing better than either of them....or Carson Palmer...or anyone else.

fred

i think the real problem lies in the fact that every player makes mistakes, every game. no matter who, or how good they play, they make mistakes.

this is why most ( almost all ) players dont bad-mouth a teamate, because they know how many times they screwed up that day too.

owens made a lot of mistakes yesterday. we all saw the drops, the one he short-armed, and the INT where he didnt adjust to the underthrown pass, but dawk did. and i heard on the radio today that one of the cowboy coaches said some of the 'bad' passes were actually that owens ran the wrong sight-adjustments, which comes from a lack of practicing with the team/qb.

if i recall my psych classes from college, i think its called transference ?? when you try to blame or apply your faults to other people. ( like me calling some other guy fat, old and bald ). t.o. to me is directing attention to his qb to take the eye off of his own failures.

Personality-wise, Owens is childish, immature, slightly retarded, maybe even bipolar or semi anti-social. I get that. I also understand that he's an attention whore and a disaster waiting to happen for public relations people. I've never disputed that. I still think he's a difference maker. But I also understood after certain events transpired, that it was IMPOSSIBLE to keep Owens on the team.

I also think that McNabb is playing pretty well right now. The accuracy is better than usual, the errant throws are down, and he's making plays with his feet again. I like what McNabb has showed so far. I still think that the touch issues are there, and may always be there, and that scares me. Even jackass Aikman made mention of it several times during the broadcast. So be it. He's playing all-world right now.

Having said that, I still have my reservations- Dallas is the one strong team they've played. We all knew that the Eagles would be favored in all the games up to this point, and they haven't disappointed, going 4-1. Really they should be 5-0, and that's where those reservations come from. That game against the Giants just brought back too many memories of how this team can break your heart, but even I'll admit that right now optimism levels are high. No team, no player is perfect, I understand that- I just hope the Eagles can correct (or overcome) their holes before the hard part of the schedule hits.

Fair enough?

Fred,

All legitimate points, and all things that others on the level (Even McNabb apologists) are quick to mention.

I think you take heat from folks b/c they have a bitter taste in their mouths from past exchanges with you and automatically assume the worst possible intentions in your posts. Conversly, b/c you've been the object of some derision here on the level, you have your defensive shield readily available to parry any attacks and quickly retort.

But overall you're right.

McNabb (espeically during the Green Bay and Boys games) at times reverted to throwing a) bullets when he didn't need to, b) wormburners/low balls and a few behind his recievers.

All true. I think the difference this year is that he seems to have overcome his past mental hiccups ie: when he threw a wormburner in the past it appeared to shake his confidence and that lead to more errant balls on successive throws. Now he seems able to put a bad throw behind him on the next play. That said, I wish he didn't have those 3-6 bad throws per game. They are still maddening to watch as a fan.

But I'm also with F-D in the sense that every QB (Brady, Manning, etc.) makes thrwoing errors in games. And that while the low balls irk me to no end, it does suggest that McNabb is very aware (too aware maybe) of turnovers and thus puts the ball in a less than ideal spot for receivers who are tightly covered, but that also means that the only person with a chance to get the ball is the receiver, not the defender. The downside is that such a strategy can alos produce a lot of three and outs.

Which leads to my final two points, that this offense is still too reliant on big plays, to the detriment of the running game, and can't chew up clock and yardage in sustained drives, which doesn't bode well for the future.

Also, while the D has beenaluded for its play, they still allow teams to hang around (Giants, Boys, and even Pack to a degree) despite decimating opposing QBs (as you accurately note FB).

Overall, I don't think fans on the level are delusional. Everyone realizes this team has flaws that coudl come back to hurt it, but is also happy with where things are, especially when considerng the turmoil of last year.

I think the key thing with McNabb is that, other than last year when he had that fake injury he has improved every year. One of the weak parts of his game in my mind was the long ball, something he has clearly improved on this year. He still throws the occasional worm burner, but it seems like fewer of them this year. Also, better a worm burner than an over throw INT-wise. He still needs to develop more touch on short throws and I still believe he will get there. Sunday was a big time pressure game and he came through. Still need to see that at the END of the year. He still has a tendency to hold the ball longer than he should.

The key is that there is obvious improvement - if that keeps up he has enough talent to will the birds to a Super Bowl win at some point.

Well, T.O. is finally taking some responsibility. He's firing his publicist for the comments she made after saving his life by calling 911 when he had his "accidental" overdose.

From ESPN.com:

Under normal circumstances, a professional athlete firing his publicist would not warrant publicizing.

But when the athlete is Terrell Owens, and the publicist is Kim Etheredge, well, it's certainly noteworthy.

The well-publicized Dallas Cowboys receiver, who apparently distanced himself from Etheredge following his September hospitalization for an accidental overdose from prescription painkillers, has fired her, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Tuesday.

Owens was hospitalized the night of Sept. 24, and an initial police report that said he was depressed and tried to kill himself reached the media. Owens denounced it a few hours later, saying he mixed painkillers he was prescribed for a hand injury with his usual supplements.

Etheredge made the 911 call, which showed that she was on the line for 41 seconds, never said anything about a suicide attempt and never mentioned Owens' name.

"I think he took too many pills," Etheredge told a paramedic. "Please. Now. ... What do I do if the pills are down the throat?"

However, when the gum-chewing Etheredge spoke to reporters the following day, she appeared annoyed and lashed out at authorities, saying, "I am just upset that I just feel they take advantage of Terrell. Had this been someone else, this may not have happened," and, "Terrell has 25 million reasons why he should be alive," referring to the three-year, $25 million contract he signed with the Cowboys in March 2006.

Authorities demanded an apology from Owens and Etheredge, and she later said she was sorry in an interview with the Star-Telegram. Etheredge added that her comments were "about the entire situation with the report and ensuing media controversy," not just the police.

Until F_B offers his self-proclaimed genius opinion why should anyone comment?

Actually in TO's world makes alot of sense. Cowpukes are out of playoffs so he has to do something to generate news about himself. Next thing on agenda will be his take on the season and how they lost because he was under utilized.

Actually f-d, in my previous post, I was talking more about my prediliction of Bledsoe's demise due to his horrendous performance- but the T.O. point works too.

BTW- there ain't no way in hell they resign Owens. I actually wouldn't want him back if I had any say either. Better to get a younger version of the same thing. I wish the Cardinals and Lions weren't such boneheads.
