NEAG, I admitted I was wrong about Garcia weeks ago. Believe me, after the guy won me two fantasy football championships, one of which featured the NYC Marching Coffins burying the arrogant Dark Siders in the Level League, and humiliated the Giants and Dallas, I'm his biggest fan.
Of course, I'm not delusional like yo_met/Mrs. Garcia, and there is no way in Hell I'd rather have Garcia over McNabb as QB next year. Like everyone said, Garcia's success is more a product of the improved defense and playcalling than anything else. Had Garcia been asked to idiotically throw the ball 40-some times in 50 M.P.H. winds against Jacksonville, he would have sucked just as badly as McNabb did.
That being said, I like Garcia's character way more than the spoiled and detached McNabb. I can't agree with Seth that McNabb was rooting against the Eagles on Monday, but come playoff time, I definitely think he'll be the only guy in Philly who doesn't want to see the Eagles win the SuperBowl. In fact, it will be interesting to see if McNabb re-appears in the media in the coming weeks. Should the stars align and this team reaches the Super Bowl, McNabb's going to have a hard time laying low because the muckraking media will be aiming to start a real QB controversy.
I'll say this much about Garcia: when he turned to the camera and said "Merry Christmas, Philadelphia," that probably earned him several new fans. While it had nothing to do with the game, it was the kind of genuine, emotional gesture that we have never seen from McNabb, who still seems to harbor a grudge about being booed by the Dirty Thirty. McNabb would be more likely to tell a corny joke and blow a kiss to his momma before wishing a Merry Christmas to his wife and kid, suburban Chicago, and the state of Arizona.

Anyone who really believes McNabb was pulling for Dallas is either a complete moron, has never played on any kind of team, or both. I really don't give a shit who mama McNabb wanted to win.

No, I'm not. If you'd ever played on any kind of team you'd know how retarded it is to believe someone on the team is rooting against his own team's success. It's just retarded.

It's amazing to me that in this improbable Eagles run, you take time out from the enjoyment to bash a guy who is not even playing based on PURE SPECULATION about his thought process which you could not possibly know. Did McNabb beat you up as a kid or something?
Players want their team to win, period.

You're mixing up two different things. Why can't it be possible for McNabb to have mixed feelings about Garcia's success and still want the team to win? I can accept the possibility that he is rooting against Garcia - I don;t believe it but I can accept the possibility because it would be human nature. But NO WAY he is rooting against the team's success.
Of course, in YOUR dream world everyone on the team hates Donovan and no one on the team respects him, and of course the feeling is mutual, so of course McNabb wants them to lose.

Dino,
I don't think its out of the realm of possibility. I've never seen anyone sulk as much as he has considering TO and the draft thing. You'd figure that 120 million bucks later, he's over it.
But, NEAG, Dino's right....who gives a rats ass who McNabb or momma root for?

I find the irrationality of your hatred of McNabb (shared by my brother) amusing. I've been a vocal critic, but he isn't as horrible as he's made out to be.

Honestly I doubt McNabb was routing for anything bad to happen, IMO I think he's hoping for the Birds to go as far as possible...
Lets go back a few years, after he went down and Koy and AJ got them through the end of the year and into the playoffs, the following year I believe he spent the off season working on accuracy. The last three years he has become a more accurate QB than he was at the start of his career ala worm burners... This year he was having a very good year accurate in all areas short med and long passes; yes he still threw bad passes but all QB's do...
The thing I like most about #5 is his drive to fix or the effort he at least makes to correct his flaws. I would not at all be surprised to see him come back next year with a more outgoing almost in your face attitude... If memory serves (and it doesn't always lately) he used to have that fire like Garcia... but over the last few years he was under such a microscope that he allowed the media's attention to force him to become guarded in the manner he dealt with not only the media I think it carried into the way he related or didn't relate to his teammates...
Anyway I think that not only will he come back fired up, but I think he'd almost like it if the Eagles had success and got the Championship monkey off the Eagles backs (ok that's going a little too far)

Give it a rest NEAG.
How do you know it is FACT that McNabb is rooting against the team?
Answer: You don't. All you have is your own completely-biased speculation.
Do I perceive his mother to be annoying? Sure. But what she wrote on her web site sounds like a protective parent to me, nothing more.
Keep digging and stomping your feet though, your constant "I hate McNabb" temper tantrusm are becoming amusing, and PREDICTABLE.

If you think McNabb is rooting against the team to succeed, you are basically implying that he either has no friends on the team or he is rooting against his friends. Neither is a plausible scenario. Take off the "I hate McNabb" blnders for a second and TRY to think rationally.

I'm just saying his selfish interests override that of "rooting for the team".
When you are hurt, you are practicly a ghost.
If he is "the leader" and it is "his" team, what does that say if they win without him?

Dino- Ive played on a team. I do not hate McNabb. That said: (And his momma's mouth just kinda backed what I typed last nite- its at WORST an admission that its on their minds- remember, "she polled her family", her own words) It's certainly easy to see, with the personailty he has shown to have so far in his career, that this kinda thing (Garciamania in Philly- the town who booed him , in his mind, and the fans who are harsh etc) is not sittin well with him.
Now Im sure his relationships on the team have him smiling, and maybe even rooting for em still, I was kinda just makin a point last nite that he cannot be thrilled- and I stand by it- but he'll say all the right things when (if) they take thier playoff exit.
IF they should reach Miami, scene of his second to last vomit session, the criticism he received after that, teh Garcia Mania etc. will all have him quietly hoping they lose.
Momma McNabb, 1 day later, already proved my point as to how that whole family think.
Remember- they're "Donovan McNabb fans, not Eagles fans"- one of her earliest quotes.

That's part of his problem - his inability to get over things. The media, the fans, whatever - part of being considered one of the best is that you're always scrutinized for what you do and don't do. But you get over, maybe even let it drive you a little.
This is still McNabb's team. But there is a definite change in how they move, and part of it is the way the coaching staff has adapted to Garcia's limitations (who, I will admit now, has made me a believer).
I do think that it has to bruise his already fragile ego a bit to know that the team is successful without its star QB. Does that mean he's actively rooting for them to lose? Doubt it. I think him staying out of the limelight says that he wants the focus to be more on the team than himself.
But if they do get closer to Miami, how much more will he stay in the shadows?

Oh, Im not suggesting he'll ever outwardly appear to be rootin against Philly. I think it is gonna be an inward thing, like HUMAN NATURE.
He isnt EVER goin to say the wrong thing.
I mean, this is no "Black on Black crime" issue we're talkin about.

Dino,
One thing I'd mention is that in perfect counterpoint to McNabb, Garcia took the boos with aplomb and was rapidly acclaimed by the city with his attitude and more importantly his play. McNabb reminds me of Kordell Stewart psychologically.
Plus, its Black on Gay crime. I don't know how to rate that on the PC scale other than effed up.
