I thought the "black on black" comments were stupid, but not offensive. When McNabb said it, he was just trying to bail his dad out, but I always thought the actual phrase was more offensive than someone using it out of context.

If he isn't the 1st to use that quote, in a situation taht couldnt be farther from the actual meaning- then plz produce the same useage from another athlete in this forum.

Never heard it.

And yes, its shallow and just goes to show how outta touch and clueless he is. IT IS IN NO WAY RELEVANT to what he was tryin to tie it to. You think it's just ME who's blasted that dope over this? He got CRUSHED by the national media for it and deservedly so.

Crabs in a barrell does not equal black on black crime, hoss.

But it is not BECAUSE he said it was like B on B crime, that I cite it. I couldnt care less in the long run- again, I wasn't offended by it.

How bout this- if he had said something like the idiotic KWII quote, about bein a real soldier, etc, in this day and age, I'd use THAT as an example of how outta touch the guy is- if not with the plights of his own race, then with his country and it's sons and daughters in Iraq, all the same- the cat's clueless and lives in Momma McNabb's protective bubble of "youre the best honey!". But he didn't FB, so I gotta use the best example to illustrate my point and in this case its the "black on black" quote.

Seth,

You got the whole "crabs in a barrel" thing from me (please recall our dicussion in the J. Whyatt Mondesire thread). If memory serves you said that while reading my post at that time it made you think of that phrase, which was used in your presence by a black female co-worker. You then said that was what you were thinking when you read my words.

And in that thread, we also discussed the black on black crime statement, and it seemed at the time that we reached an accord at the end of the thread.

Yet, as FB notes, it still seems to be a burr in your saddle nearly two years later. I think him questioning that is legitimate and it would SEEM to suggest some kind of unresolved, latent feelings about McNabb or something else (FOR THE RECORD NOT ACCUSING YOU OR ANYONE OF RACISM, PREJUDICE, ETC.) but I am saying you have a seeming anti-McNabb bias (not as bad as Neag's though).

It's not for white folks or black folks to say whether McNabb is authentically black enough, or a sell-out (there is no one set of defining characteristics for one race, all blacks don't speak in slang and broken English, or come from single-parent welfare homes, or have a proclivity for crime).

He has to live his life, and from the looks of things (despite his fragile ego, errant throws, injury bug and untimely vomiting) he seems to be a pretty decent guy and a positive role model, as pro athletes go anway.

Finally, from an espn article about Westy, this nugget:

In the five-game stretch after McNabb's injury -- a stretch that doesn't include Sunday's season finale, in which he was pulled after the first series -- Westbrook averaged 19.6 rushes and 24.2 touches per contest. His averages in the first 10 games were 14.1 carries and 19.4 touches. In his first four seasons, he averaged 16.2 touches in 35 starts. Westbrook logged 20 or more carries in two of the five games after McNabb's knee injury. In the first 35 starts of his five-season career, Westbrook had just four games with 20 or more rushing attempts.

The emphasis on getting the ball into Westbrook's hands is just part of the big picture in Philadelphia, where coach Andy Reid, after years of criticism about the lopsided nature of his design, has made more of an effort to balance the game plans.

Philadelphia rushed the ball on 49.5 percent of its snaps in the five games after McNabb's injury. In the 10 games McNabb started, the Eagles ran the ball on just 39.5 percent of their snaps. With Jeff Garcia as the starting quarterback, Philadelphia averaged nine fewer passes per outing. In concert with that, Westbrook's role has been enhanced.

That he said something idiotic and therefore is fair game still doesn't seem to explain why you seem to continually harp on that statement in particular.

We all say stupid things everyday, get tongue-tied, confused or just mix things up. It's called human frailty and we all suffer from it.

I guess that's why I still have trouble seeing how McNabb is somehow held to a greater standard on the boneheaded comments meter. Sure, he has a national platform that exposes his comments to a worldwide audience, thus increasing the likelihood that his comments will be met with scorn. But I don't recall the national outrage you do after the black-on-black crime comments.

I though the furor was much more pronounced after the Rush Limbaugh thing. If memory serves he reiterated hsi father's comments during SB week so much of it was drowned out by the other media . . . forgive me if I'm confusing stupid McNabb remarks and the SB comments were separate (I seem to recall they were TO-related).

Sorry, clicked off before I could finish:

Yes, I recall that conversation, but I had heard that a while ago, and had it thoroughly explained to me by the female co-worker. Remember all that.

But what is THIS!?
" I think him questioning that is legitimate and it would SEEM to suggest some kind of unresolved, latent feelings about McNabb or something else (FOR THE RECORD NOT ACCUSING YOU OR ANYONE OF RACISM, PREJUDICE, ETC.) but I am saying you have a seeming anti-McNabb bias (not as bad as Neag's though).

a) Im 1 of McNabbs biggest supporters out here, on the field without question, and even off the field to an EXTENT. I think he and his need to get past the draft day thing, and I DO have issues with his 'fragile ego' as you put it, and the things (READ: STUPID REMARKS) that stem from that. But I have not ONE latent issue with 5.

b) When did I ever question how 'black" he is? If this is even directed at me, which i assume it is. What? I think he catches some flack in the black community for not being 'thug' enuff, or as a sell out/corporate guy, and I think that's offbase. I heard the dolts callin WIP, and it's been discussed before how, if a guy speaks without Ebonics, he's a sell out. Whatever. I think THAT's the dumb side of the argument. I have never once said he isn't 'black' enuff, and think that whole argument is , ahem, WHACK. How's that?

for your last post:

He's held to a higher standard? NO.
He just makes MORE of them than most. More than others who just have no credibility (Moss, T.O.- whos remarks are usually selfish).

McNabb maintains credibility, largely due to the way he carries himself (professionallY) on & off the field. I know for me at least, when he began making stupid or at best, ill timed comments, that kinda shocked me in a way- im used to it now, but then I thought it odd that someone with credibility would have so many accidents with his mouth.

They stem from the fragile ego, and the attitude that's CLEAR now, has been fostered in the McFabulous home his entire life- whether inspired by actual events or ones that have been held onto too long.

Manning has better commercials.

You never hear from Manning's mommy either. And Archie is too busy misguiding Peyton's cock-eyed retarded brother in New York.

McNabb just has to get back to playing and getting used to the fact that the Eagles offense should no longer revolve around him.
