Happy New Years

May 2007 bring the best of health and happiness to you all*. I will be down at Stella Maris watching Ferko warm-up on New Years morning. I hope to see everyone out at the Parade.

As for Sunday, three big priorities:

Priority one, No injuries.

The Birds will need every player for the playoffs.

Prority two, Seal the NFC East. Weather that happens with a Dallas loss (unlikely), or a Phila win, a home-field advantage during the first play-off game will be huge. Moreover, they will draw one of the 7-8 inconsistant teams as their first opponent.

Priority three, Get the first string off the field as soon as possible. If they can put Atlanta away in the first half, that would be great. Give the second string some quality playing time. There will be opportunity for them in the play-offs to come up big and now would be a great time for them to get into the action.

See you on Broad Street.

(* this even includes the T.O. trolls here on the board)

Without apologies.

As for the fellas at the level, many apologies. I was hoping to make it to the Falcons' game regardless of the season's implications, but alas . . . duty calls. Next time you hear from me, it'll be cross-continental. Happy New Years!

Yo A,

I know you cannot give any details about your deployment, but stay in touch. Give us a posting when you get to Ali al-Salaam, they have a computer center set-up there in a tent to send e-mails messages home. Better yet, they also have a huge TV there to watch the play-off games if you get time.

Then, as you deploy into country (Afgh or Iraq) make sure your ear plugs fit tight. My ears are still ringing from rotor shear and the last couple of IEDs.

Most of all, take care, and God Bless. Come back in one piece, safe and sound.

This will probably be the last chance I'll have to post on here today, since I'm going to start cooking soon. Everyone have a great New Year's and Eagles game. Be careful tonight.

Yo,

The Mummers did the right thing, postponed the Parade until Saturday. (Incidnetly, the original postponement date was Sunday, but they worked around the Eagles' schedule nicely.)

For a town that has so many winter sports disappointments, it is always great to have the Mummers on New Years Day to take the 'sting' out of the pain each year.

Go Mummers!

A spectacle that is well suited for the gay community, with its drag queens, sequins, boas, feathers, choreographed dancing, and makeup.

The Mummers are an embarrassing Philly tradition.

Yo,

This kind of comment is pure demogoguery. It stems from the same mentality of those so-called 'Eagles Fans' on this site that continually and shamefully apply similar ad hominum to Garcia. How pathetic, and cowardly*.

The Mummers goes back over 300 years in this town. It is a tradition brought from Europe. People dressed-up in masks and costumes to make fun of each other. It continues today with themes, ridicule, and costumes. In short, a day when all seriousness can be put aside. No other purpose other than that.

Comics, Fancies, String Bands, and the lot are loved by true Eagles Phans. Broad Street is lined with phans sporting green jackets and hats. You can hear 'Fly Eagles Fly' being sung all day. You can hear the String Bands play it. Phans run out in the street and lead the E-A-G-L-E-S cheer. It will be a great and festive event to get ready for Sunday and bring this town together.

Have a Happy New Years anyway, and ...lighten up.

* to prove this just ask one simple question, would they call Garcia a 'homo' to his face? No. Would they invect the Mummer to their face? No. ...Apparently it's easier to hide anonymously behind the internet. ...Gutless wonders.

Yo,

Make a resolution to chill out. My Dad was in the Palmyra String Band and the Mummers were always part of the New Years celebration in our household.

However, I can also understand the gay references being made (Grandstand seating for the parade was included in Garcia's contract). Just keep in mind that most of the String Bands consist of some very tough, blue collar guys.
