A hold on Gaither coming free up the middle (he was hauled down) on a pretty big pass play where the Eagles blitzed in the 3rd Quarter (I think) was the biggest I saw.

That Gaither hold was the one that had me lose it. Guy gets twisted like fuckin' Gumby right in front of the QB and no one sees shit.

ATown, your presence is requested at 8PM this Saturday at Tony Luke's 576 9th Ave between 42nd and 41st.

That is all.

And last year, it's entirely possible that someone wanted the Steelers to lose against the Colts, but after the Steelers made it to the Super Bowl, someone wanted the Steelers to win.

But you have to ask what's in it for the NFL (re: the Super Bowl). It's not as if having the Steelers advance another round will attract more viewers than if Seattle were to advance, it's the last game of the season, they're not about to make any more money from ratings or advertising.

Is it apparel? Will more Steelers SB championship hats be sold than Seahawks? More SI videos sold documenting a "storybook" season?

Or would it just be because they want to give Bettis a ring?

Not trying to sound like a smartass, I'm seriously asking. Because it just seems really unlikely and unsupported to boot.

I'm not suspecting the NFL.

But I will tell you that a lot of money is made betting on professional football.

Oh. Ok. But based on what you and slapshot were saying it seemed to me that you thought the Eagles get jobbed more often than not and that the darling team (Steelers, Pats, Saints this year) will get more calls. Surely the gamblers aren't always going against the Eagles? Gamblers seem pretty colorblind to me.

That's why I thought you were talking about the league.

Thanks Talon. Haven't been up to TL's yet. Moved to Brooklyn right around when it opened and don't get up that way too much.

Not sure what my plans are yet for Saturday, but right now I am leaning towards watching from the comfort of my living room. Course, that's what I always say on Monday.

I went to Tony Luke's near Port Authority for the Bucs game and the Titans game. I thought it was a great place to watch but since those games were so terrible I can't bring myself to go back.

SZR,

I am not meaning to come off as a "conspiracy theorist." It just seems that over the past 3 or 4 years, the refs have just as much effect on the outcome of games as the teams. And more often than not, they seem to favor the flavor of the week. I would just be more comfortable with the Eagles playing Chicago instead of NO.

Then again, Steeler Country may have me a bit jaded.

the good: a playoff win, especially when Garcia wasn't at his best. Akers, Westbrook, the D 9except for the opening drive, what is it with opening drives and this d?)

the bad: not a whole lot of bad. But they will have to step it up next week in all aspects.

the ugly: this post from TC on the previous page of this thread: "we a single falg comoe out, then it seeemed liek every zebra ont eh feild tossed a yellow hankie. "

I officiate HS and D3 college football, and honestly even at those levels you could call holding on several players on every play. Thats just how the game is played anymore. An official has to just pick his spots and try to call the ones that affect the play the most.

But with that, even though he doesn't have anything to do with the league office itself, Madden's "everyone wants to give Peyton a ring" quote speaks volumes. They've adjusted the contact rules with DBs because of the raping that the Pats gave them in 04. The Polamalu (sp?) INT is even more suspicious. I don't think there is any mandate being passed down from the league or anything, but I think with a lot of the rule changes swinging things in the offenses favor, in the back of their mind they wouldn't the outcome of it to be a ring for the NFL's poster boy.

Read somewhere that Dawkins' "crawl" was in tribute to the WWE's Boogeyman, who also does the same thing.
