I think they wanted the first Dallas/Philly game to be in Philly to play up the "TO returning" angle. And they got monster ratings for it.

Wouldn't it have been an even bigger rating if the game was a late-season game in Philly, on Christmas night, with possible playoff implications?

I think id like to point out, I dont buy into any 'unfair scheduling' practices by the NFL to further the Saints season.

I DO believe that they will receive more than the 'normal' home cookin where the refs are concerned.

And Scotty, if you don't think the League tries to 'help out' some of their more marketable stars- be it due to the market they play in, their status comin outta college, their appeal on some other level etc- you're not really seein the whole pic.

Guys- I can point to a few seasons there where it seemed to me that Philly was benefittin from havin a young supastah (5) that they were pushin.

Vick was pushed, ELI for cryin out loud- the refs in the last Gmen game and the followin wk vs Dallas (Romo/Americas team) were brutal.

Not cryin, I am not, I think Philly can win the game- but be prepared to see a lopsided game where officiating is concerned.
My point has nothing to do w/. Scheduling.

Im HAPPY they drew the 8pm, Sat. game.

If Saturday is the best possible time slot to have from a ratings/money generating standpoint then why isn't the Super Bowl played at that spot?

Something I'd love by the way.

I've often wondered why they hold the Super Bowl on Sunday, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the city holding the function moreso than TV ratings. The Super Bowl would get disgusting ratings on any day of the week.

There's also the traditon thing. NFL football is a Sunday sport.

While the conversation is entertaining and interesting, might it also just come down to networks?

NBC had the rights to both games on Saturday. That left CBS with the early Sunday game and the Fox with the late Sunday game.

Now they flipflop on Sunday's slate (Fox early, CBS late). That leaves Fox with its pick for Satuday and they would likely take the late Saturday game for ratings. And between the two games, A Philly/NO matchup has a much more hype-able backstory.

Yeah, I think the networks get their pick whenever possible. They pay the big bucks. F-d still makes a good point on the 6/8 vs 7/7 rest days arguement, though.

Just for reference on scheduling history, no team had 6 days rest last season.

The slotting for the games is of interest, too.

Last year, the biggest game on the schedule had to be Pittsburgh/Indy at that time. That game was played at 1pm on Sunday.

The second biggest game was probably the Patriots at Denver and they played that at 8pm (EST) Saturday.

The Chicago/Carolina game was the late game on Sunday and Washington/Seattle was the early game Saturday.

I think it can be argued that the late Sunday game last year was the least interesting on the schedule, no better than 3rd out of 4 games in terms of intrigue/potential ratings.

Right on the money, there. No way they'd lose a Saturday of crap-selling and hype-spewing.

Had somebody tell me the Eagles requested the home game on Christmas Day vs. Dallas be moved, so they wouldn't have to pay stadium employees time-and-a-half for working on a holiday.

I think he was kidding...

Me, my dad and a bottle of Jameson's had to watch that one on tape delay. (turned off the cell phone). If there is one thing you can't mess with in my family, its Christmas dinner.

How many times have I mentioned the refs all year?

I don't sign on each week and complain the the Eagles "getting hosed by the zebras". I call it like I see it and I felt they got jobbed a little in that Giants game.

We should have a thread every week where you assign a grade to the refs.

Like when the Eagles lose they would get an "F", and when the Eagles win they's get a "B-" or a "B" if we are feeling generous.

You could do it before the game is played, even. Ref prediction threads.

So who is the most marketable star player out of Philly, New Orleans, New England and San Diego.

And what day and time is he playing?

I'm aware the NFL promotes their product (i.e. players), hence the flex scheduling and multitude of primetime games throughout the season.

Playoff games are a bit different. Sure If they can choose between putting the star player on at 1:00 or 8:00 the same day they will make it happen. But I find it hard to believe they will rearrange a whole round of Playoff scheduling (2 days) just to get a marketable guy on at a particular time.

Wrong. If the Eagles win, the refs get a C+/B-.

If the Eagles lose, they don't get a grade because the fans will call the Eagles bums, fail to post on the boards, put on their Forsberg jersey, check the NHL standings, and kill themselves.

"Knowledgeable, Passionate, and Loyal"

The one bonus is after the Eagles do lose, we'll finally get Fred Barnett back.

There are about 6 people posting in this thread and 5 of them had mentioned the refs. I assumed I was safe to respond to what I felt was an open observation by you.

Is that cool with you?

I do reply to post that aren't directed to me in cases when I have an opinion, or was commenting on a similar subject and wanted to clarify my opinion (so there wouldn't be any confusion for people who haven' read the entire thread).

I'd comment on your posting behaviors and tendancies, but I left my "KB Profile Notes" in my other briefcase.

Good lord, you act like this is weird. It's no different than you pointing out how fb posts, or EAG, or anyone else. We've been on here for how many years now?

BTW, I think you missed the gist of what I was saying. I wasn't saying you post when you have an opinion, I was saying when other people are arguing on here, you think one of them is posting to you and don't know what he's talking about, that's all.

Makes no diference. Im not talkin about the slotting of games in the same vein I agreed that the Refs angle in the contest Saturday nite is goin to be easy to spot.

I suppose it's my fault for mentioning my belief that the Saints will be beneficiaries of some officiating, in a thread where the main talk is centered around Scheduling and a Les Bowen (incorrectly) fueled article in which he hints at some inpropriety on behalf of the league.

I think I addressed that. I said I'll jump in if I have an opinion and I'll also post to clarify an opinion.

For instance, if I say something and 2 people start arguing about something very similar, but not the same, I'll clarify my opinion so I don't get lumped in.

I've really never spent much time thinking about it, though. Sorry?
