Scored tickets and driving in Friday.
Don't know what to expect from the Dome crowd, but it can't be anywhere near the Linc or even Giants stadium for that matter.
Any recommendations down on Bourbon St?

Get yo'self a Po' Boy while you're down there.
And if you don't visit Cafe Du Monde and get some beignets, then you don't know what you're missing. Especially at 2AM.
And make sure you grab some crawfish. And learn to do it proper (suck out the meat, then the brains).
Had a blast when I went down there years ago - did some roadie-ing for my bud's brother, who played guitar for Serille Neville. Including running the streets at night and almost getting an opportunity to grind with a dancer during a performance. But that was during my younger days.

No, never even drank while I was down there. My job was to carry his equipment, and I got into the bars for free. Only really listened to the music and converse with people (at one venue, I got to meet Serille and his son, and at the time his son was 8 playing pro, playing better than many of the other drummers I'd ever heard anywhere).
The grinding story, well.....it ain't appropriate for you young'uns (it's actually tame as to what goes on this site on a daily basis), but I can tell you that back then, given the chance, I'd jump in headfirst.

My wallet never allowed me to become a recreational drinker.
Oh, BTW NJ, if you happen to come across alligator jambalaya down there, try it out - tastes like chicken.
I would say to go visit the Bayous, but I'm not sure what shape they're in after Katrina. Suffice to say, a city boy like me didn't really like getting torn up by deer flies for the better half of 2 hours.

Isn't the only real answer to this question pretty much just:
A) The bottom of a glass
B) Unencumbered Ha-Ha's
C) Rinse and Repeat.
???

BTW, it's Cyrille. And the Nevilles and Batistes are musical royalty down there. If you see any band with a Neville or Batiste in it, you're pretty much guaranteed that the music will be top-notch.
If you go to Cafe du Monde before 5AM, you did something wrong. That place is the ultimate capper to a night of non-stop drinking. If non-stop drinking is your bag, Igor's is famous for staying open 24hours. I have lots of pictures of drunken friends asleep on the bar at 8AM.
Mother's is THE place for Po' Boys. Get the roast beef and definitely get it with the debris.
Personally, I'd pass on the muffaletta because if you've had a good Italian hoagie, a muffaletta is just a greasy disappointment.
A great place to go eat is Jacque-Imo's, which is a local favorite. It's in the garden district, and it's well worth the trip. They serve mammoth portions of killer creole cuisine in a completely unpretentious atmosphere. If we can muster up a Level trip for the Saints game next year (it will be in New Orleans again), we need to go there.
If you want to have a more upscale fine dining experience, Emeril's Delmonico has great food and unparalleled service.
If you want to overpay to drink in a bunch of generic wateringholes filled with tourist fratboys, go to Bourbon Street. Have fun wading through the piss, puke, and shit after midnight.
Otherwise, Frenchman St. has the hippest stretch of bars and clubs in town. It's just two blocks past the French Quarter, and it's filled with great drink and music, most of which has no cover. I like jumping between d.b.a., with its ridiculous selection of beer and liquors, and the Spotted Cat, which is much more sedate and old school.

Indeed. Just sitting in on a practice session with Cyrille was off the chain.
Out of curiosity Talon, have you been to Emeril's down in Orlando? Had a disappointing experience down there, even for an upscale joint. Wanted to know if you'd ever been there, and if you had, how it compares to the one in NO.
I'm still amazed at Cyrille's son. I think he was 8 at the time, but the things he was doing absolutely blew my mind for someone his age. Even watching a jam session with him and his dad was an awesome experience.

The Neville's lose me with their repeated tolerance of that f'ing spot on Aaron's (or whoever's) face. Get that thing cut off.

Out of curiosity Talon, have you been to Emeril's down in Orlando?
I haven't been to Orlando in about 7 years, so it wasn't there last time I was in Florida.
I wouldn't be surprised if it sucked, though. Orlando is the ultimate tourist town, and they try to homogenize everything to appeal to the widest cross-section of people. Couple that with the fact that Emeril is almost always in either New York or New Orleans, so there's very little executive quality control. I'm not sure what kind of cuisine the Orlando restaurant serves, but I've never had Cajun/Creole food outside of New Orleans that was really worth it. For instance, Jacque-Imo's is fantastic in New Orleans but incredibly lousy in New York. The only time it was good here was right after Katrina when the chefs all came up here to work.
Emeril has three restaurants in New Orleans, and Delmonico is probably the most upscale. It's in an old house, and people are seated in different rooms. A table of four has four waiters who serve the food simultaneously. If you drop a fork, a USTA ballboy races across the room to hand you a new one. I had to go through the kitchen to get to my table, and every chef and cook stopped what they were doing to say hello. Southern hospitality.
