To punt with less than 2 minutes left down 3 is a borderline fireable offense. A complete disgrace. Yeah, maybe you don't make it, 4th and 15. BUT YOU FUCKING GAVE UP FAT MAN. FUCK YOU. REALLY, FUCK YOU.

Key injuries to McNabb, Kearse, Lito and Andrews (for half of the game) killed them. They need to get healthy, Garcia's a great backup (but let's face it, he's a backup), and get something to really stop the run.
The good:
Lots of players stepped up. Considine, Gaither, Cole, Brown, Stallworth all played very well, with the exception of Brown weren't key figures in the team last year. Garcia proved he can help the team win when the starter is down.
The bad:
Depth in DL/Run Stopping ability is still lacking even though we thought they had depth at the start. Jones is done, he's gotta go, they need to get a better outside backer. Secondary could use a stud corner to push Lito/Brown.
The ugly: Critical penalties, health and depth were glaring issues, but not as bad as the inability to maintain a stream of yard gains. The run game netted explosive runs, but not a ton of play by play gains. It's hard to establish a playaction when people aren't expecting a 3-4 yard gain when the back gets the ball. It's time to realize that Blunt isn't going to hack it and they need to get a brusing up the middle back to spell Westbrook.

FUCK THIS TEAM. To fucking punt when you need a field goal to tie...
I mean CHRIST, you just MADE a 4th and 10 and a penalty nullified. That makes a 4th and 15 impossible???
Andy Ried threw out the white flag. DISGRACE. Fuck the fat man. How the fuck do you root for a team that GIVES UP?

Be honest - if he went on 4th and 15 and didn't get it, the exact opposite messages would be posted.
Eff Reid for going for it when it was over three minutes left and he had two timeouts, etc etc.
I feel the anger and I'm right there with you, but pinning it on Reid and that punt decision is shortsighted. There are so many other things to blame for the loss.

Dino,
Do you really not believe "the best team won"?
They did. The Eagles put up a nice fight. But the Best Team Won.
This does a lot for your College argument.

good/bad/ugly
Good: It's over. Maybe the run to the end was a bit too happy to believe. The chick with the nice tits in the "Fuck the Eagles" t-shirt. Really nice.
Bad: Run defense.
Ugly: Run defense.
Hoipefully the FO will wake the fuck up and get something together this off season on the "D" side of the ball.
The offense is fine. Really, looking at the positions, nothing much should change. The Defense is the Achilles heel of this team, which would have been the #2 seed had it not been EXPOSED during that horrendous midseason strech. Honestly, how many teams can survive giving up 208 yards in a playoff game and win? That is the question that this team should answer.

I don't necessarily think the run defense was horrible, conidering the couple of times that Reggie Bush was stopped and then just through sheer athleticism still goes around the pile to make a big play. And there were quite a number of successful run stops.
The run defense was bad when Deuce started getting major runs, but that wasn't till later in the game, and I think the defense was getting worn down. I think that not having the rest did make a difference.
I believe I heard mention that Shawn Barber was hurt as well.
Losing Andrews was huge, especially considering that Scott Young penalties negated two huge plays.
I didn't think the Eagles avoided the run so much as the run wasn't working when they tried it.
And I believe a little bit of lady luck went against the Eagles when a forced fumble to stop a drive actually results in a first down for the team that fumbled.

IM sorry to say this. Trotter needs to go. He looks like he is running at half speed and Payton attacked him in a bad way. He has not hade a strong game since week 3. Payton used the TE perfectly against him.
-Darwin Walker needs to go. They need a grdy Jackson/Sam Adams run stuffer and pray Bunkley works out.
-Anyone see dawk? Terrible job of JJ counteracting Paytons strategy of minimizing DAWK. You have to get your best D-player in the game ad adjust. Payton took Dawk out of it.
-No more Garcia/Donovan controversy. Garcia is no #5. He played bad in both games and is too erratic. His LUCK ran out tonight, every game he has 3-4 passes near pick 4-6.
DONTE STALLWORTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Ohh yeah, they only have 12.5 million bucks under the cap, 7th lowest in the league.
-Andy had his worst game ever. But before everyone calls for his head, take a look at what else is out there. Mike Sherman, Jim Fassell? He did a masterful job this season (being stubborn) and hopefully he learned the value of a balanced attack, cause 5 would perform at a very high level under it
-Anyone know the eagles red zone % under Garcia compared to 5? It seems to me Garcia was terrible at leading the team to touchdowns in the red zone

Don't tell me you really believe that.
What choice did they have? The Saints gave up the ball on their last drive; the Eagles didn't stop them. So people would've made sense out of not taking your shot, when the offense had been in 3rd and long all night and was still able to convert at times?
Screw that. Punting while down with little time remaining, putting it in the hands of your D who couldn't get the Saints off the field by themselves before, knowing Payton wasn't going to make the same mistake twice.......that's bull.
They don't make it, fine. They took their shot. But instead of using their last bullet, they buried it in the dirt, hoping the opposition's foot would be blown off if they stepped on it.
Total, brainless, contradictory move that reminds me of Morningwood's brainlock against Chicago years ago.

In my years here (and yes, that goes back to the launch), I've never implied this, but the league got what it wanted.
I hate conspiracies, and I've always considered them an excuse. Frankly, some of the things that this team did tonight are simply inexcuseable.
They left huge gains on the field, they didn't capitalize on mistakes, and in the clutch, they elected not to try to exploit the one weakness (the long route) that the Saints had shown all night.
They also weren't the ones that were supposed to advance.
I'm not going to go into the last series, or even the defensive holding call on Jones, but when my 9-year old is literally counting the holds on a given running play, I think that there just might be something obvious that was overlooked.
The Eagles didn't make the plays when they needed to, and they didn't roll the dice to play into their hand at the end, but I'll be goddamned if I don't think that tonight's bar tab for the crew that worked the game hasn't been taken care of.
Enjoy the bowl, and be sure to contribute to the ongoing relief effort.

As someone who previously believed the refs would decide this game, I have to say that I didn't find their calls to be quite as costly as I had expected. Sure, the defensive holding call was kind of ridiculous, but Jones made contact with the receiver beyond five yards, opening the opportunity for the ref to throw the flag.
The best team won this game. The Saints could run and could stop the run, and the Eagles could do neither, especially when it counted. In the NFL, that is a losing combination.
Amazingly, the Eagles still had chances to win it. When they were trailing by 6 yet kicked a field goal after reaching the 5 on a 2nd and 1, I thought that would be a costly decision.
Reid punting on 4th-and 15 will go down in Eagles playoff mystery fuckup lore, alongside the world's slowest two-minute offense in ther SuperBowl. Even if they had blown that 4th and 15 conversion, the Saints would have had the ball near midfield. If the Saints had been held to a FG, it still would have made it a 1 posession game.
Reid usually likes to go for the agressive play, so this is hard to understand.
Reid blew it, period.
He blew it when he built this undersized defense, and he blew it when he punted on 4th-and-15.
