If these clowns signed him during his hamstring injury, they'd have saved mad money. Now, we'll return you back to our regularly scheduled program of, "How to win with WRs of pedestrian speed" hosted by none other than the Fat Man.
I guarantee they were beating down his door with insulting offers when his hammy was messed up, but they are dealing with Rosenwhore here. He may be an ass, but he's no dummy. He wasn't going to jump on some dogshit offer just because his client had a pulled hammy.

Well, we'll see about Stallworth.
Heedin a tip from FD, ive gone to the EMB and found these nuggets from Dave Spadaro, regarding why in his mind, its more important to re-up Juqua Thomas than Stallworth... enjoy.
"If I had a choice, I would take a good DE to a good WR. I can find good WRs. JT, to me, is a very vital part of the pass rush and of the defense. Yes, I stand by my statement.
I'd love to have both players, but if I can only have one, I would rather have JT. It's close, believe me. I love Stallworth. Given everything, I would rather have a good DE than a good WR. "
(um, what?)
"And let's be clear about this: Both are good players. GREAT players? I don't know about that. In terms of stats, JT's stats were more impressive than were Stallworth's. But I don't measure value in stats alone. Stallworth stretches defenses, absolutely. JT played a lot of snaps."
(Um, huh?)
"I hear ya, but I also recognize that Brown, Baskett and Avant are a very promising trio of receivers. THIS FO has done a good job the last couple of years with WRs ... I'm talking Heckert and Licht and this group."
OK.

"I promise I won't drop the ball again, Coach".
"I promise I won't run the wrong route again, Coach".
"I promise I'll catch McNabb's wormburners with my feet next time, Coach".

Besides Brown....what WR has the Eagles picked in the last 9 or 10 years, thats worth more than a sack of onions?
Lets see....a 30 year old, 4th or 5th in the rotation DE, or a top flight 26 WR......f-spuds....

Note: Players who are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents are not included in the PhiladelphiaEagles.com Player Profiles.
The Eagles site doesn't even have the guts to profile a player's last year performance just because the player's contract is up. Too afraid that interest in the player might be generated.
So if even a measly supposedly fact-reporting profile can't be written, how could Spadaro say anything even remotely positive about a WR whose contract is up?
I think we all should be sure to adopt the posture that anything Dave Spadaro writes is untrusted. I don't visit the Eagles message boards, but I think that every post on that board should be prefaced with "Why should we trust your judgement, Dave, you are just a mouthpiece for the team?"

What happens next?
There is 14 million left of cap space. My understanding is that the rookie cap is included in that too.
On "you be the gm", a lot of players that certain fans don't like are being let go. When was the last time you heard that a starter was let go before his contract was up? So what would be the likelihood of Dhani Jones being let go?
So....,I have to believe that of all the players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents, anyone that costs, is going to be let go. So a player like Reno Mahe seems to me more likely to accept a low contract and be resigned than a player like Donte Stallworth.
Meanwhile, with the draft, the Eagles are going to sign a bunch of players that they really don't have roster spots for because of the number of untested players expected to improve, like Broderick Bunkley. When was the last time the Eagles gave up on a promising rookie after just one year?
This off-season seems destined for "incremental" improvement.

Yahoo sports draft preview.....http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=ApN05qHjGuYh0LcvDyz2NCRDubYF?slug=jm-mockdraft020807&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
HAs the Eagles taking"26. Philadelphia Eagles – LaRon Landry, safety, LSU. With safety Michael Lewis set to move via free agency, the Eagles will look to find a replacement. Landry could be the one who gets paired with All-Pro defender Brian Dawkins the next few years."
A saftey? I could see it, but LB seems a bigger need.

This thread opens with Jerome McDougle and Dhani Jones being gone.
Does anyone know if there is an extra cap hit involved if one of those players are let go? I'd be interested in knowing who the Eagles can let go without much additional cost.

My preferences on Draft day are either Griffin the S from Texas (been trottin that out here for over a month now) or Willis the LB who COULD MAYBE slide but I tend to doubt it.
1 of them.
Please.
Please GOD.

both are either out of their contracts or in their final yrs, so the cap hit should be minimal if at all.

Both cuts would result in a net gain on the cap space.
I'm not sure of the exact figure, they would definitely clear room from the cap on some level if they are released.

I gather then that Dhani Jones would be worth his yearly salary in cap room,...There is either little or no bonus remaining.
What do you figure? a few million?

http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/story/2007/1/29/111814/646
Excerpt:
Of course the cap room will probably increase once some of the dead weight is cut loose. Namely, Dhani Jones, Jerome McDougle, Ryan Moats, Dirk Johnson and maybe even William Thomas and Jeremiah Trotter. Trotter and Thomas together account for $7.18 million worth of cap space next year. Trotter, who the Eagles coaches and many fans have admitted is not an every down player anymore and whose knees are really starting to limit his effectiveness... If Trotter does come back next year, there's almost no doubt he'll have to take a pay cut to do so. William Thomas has one more year on his deal and had a great year this year, but has struggled to stay healthy before this year and has highly touted prospect Winston Justice waiting to take his place. If the Eagles don't cut him, they may look to trade him while his value is high.
This doesn't give me the exact cap room for Dhani, but does give some ideas.

If I understand correctly then
Jerome McDougle counts as 1.8 million towards the cap, but has 2.1 million remaining on his signing bonus,
and if he were to get cut, 1.8 million salary would be freed, but the 2.1 million remaining signing bonus would get counted so that the cap space would actually decrease if Jerome were cut.

That's what it looks like. That guy does a pretty good job, so I'm guessing those numbers are very close to accurate.
Numbers of note, IMO:
- Looks like Cutting McDougle will create a cap hit of about $200K. Nothing earth shattering, but that guy is a pain in the ass even on the way out.
- Cutting Dhani Jones would save about $2 million. He stinks and if they wanted to create some breathing room, he's got to be on the chopping block.
- Darren Howard had his entire bonus paid last year (almost). If they want to cut him, he would save them $2.4 million.
- Trading Tra Thomas would result in a $4.8 million saving on the cap. You only do this if you think Justice is ready, but it's something I would consider for the right price (if Justice is ready).
Now, they don't HAVE to make any of those moves, but if they want to to, they can likely pick up a 3rd round pick and save almost $9 million more on this season's cap.

A couple of things:
His cap room is 9 mill, but Eagles.com constantly says between 12 and 14 mill.
Check out Reggie Brown. He is getting 7 million.

The guys that makes sure the doughnuts are fresh for the meetings? Does he check the gameplan to make sure it has 1 play for 4th and long? Is responsible for tuning Dhani Jones air guitar? You tell me.
