Andre Waters and Brain Damage

I was flipping around the radio and tuned into Mike and Mike this morning in the middle of a discussion. It sounded like Golic was talking about a new story reporting that Andre Waters had severe football related brain damage and that was what caused the depression which led to the suicide.

I haven't been able to find that story, has anyone seen something along these lines?

I'll help you if you tell me where to find tips on HTML so I can learn to link properly, etc...

Try this...

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/18/sports/football/18waters.html?hp&ex=1169096400&en=60edcd39036b0e8d&ei=5094&partner=homepage

Here's a short tip, kalbo - if you want to link something, you type it in as this (replace the "{}" with "<>"):

{a href="http://www.website.com"}Your site{/a}

Gotta type in the "a href" part. then you type in the website's name (between quotation marks) and close it off. The thing that says "your website" can be changed to say anything you want (like, for instance, "Link'd") and you close it off with the enclosed "/a". Remember to replace the open and closed curly brackets with the < and > ones.

Try it out in the Parking Lot.

And there it is, on the cover photo...Waters leading with the helmet. Makes me wonder what will happen to all of those athletes that suffered to many concussions over the years...Lindros, in particular comes to mind. Aikman...

Interesting article. Didn't know Chris Nowitski was part of this (he seemed like an up and coming pro wrestler before concussions ended his career).

And I didn't know Waters' brain looked like that of a man twice his age. Plus the fact that he stopped counting concussions after 15? Man. Three or so, time to lower the intesity. Six, time to find a new line of work. More than 9, well, that's just nuts.

Maybe this explains Oliver McCall's weeping during his fight with Lennox Lewis.

Would this be a good time to do a "How many concussions have you had?" inventory among levelers?

Does getting hit over the head with an electric guitar so hard that it leaves a dent count?

Then count me in for 1.

I'm pretty sure the concussion count is 4.

Broken noses stands at an even dozen.

F_B - I'm not sure I even want to ask this, but.......how?

And I'm sure everyone has at least one from that crushing hit in Lehigh.

"And I'm sure everyone has at least one from that crushing hit in Lehigh."

Thanks for reminding us about Lehigh bassiladelph. This year I'll be sure to bring pads and a helmet to protect myself from the middle-aged seeking missle known as Seth in 736.

2 concussions. 1 minor, 1 major. The big one took months to clear my head and I had migraine issues for a few years. That was the end of competitive sports for me.

This article was very interesting and revealing. I hope coaches, trainers, and players at all levels are paying close attention.

Are you saying that Dean-o would be ignored?

F_B - I'm not sure I even want to ask this, but.......how?

Nothing as sinister as it sounds, Bass. When I was around 6 or 7 years old, every once in a while the parents would send me to stay with the Aunt and Uncle and my cousin (who was about 12). We were very close, but often times we got out of control. One time I went for a visit, and my cousin had a brand new red electric guitar. But he wouldn't let me play it for the longest time. Being young, I'd learned that sometimes a frontal attack isn't the best way to solve a problem. So I waited until he'd gotten tired of playing with the guitar, and had turned his back on me to watch TV. Instead of trying to play the guitar and immediately getting discovered, I tried the sneak attack. I grabbed the guitar, creeped up behind him, and bopped him on the head. Big mistake. My cousin stumbled around a bit, hootin' and hollerin, then his eyes focused back on me. Needless to say, I couldn't run, I couldn't hide. He grabbed that guitar and laid me a nice lump on my head-I saw nothing but stars- and the ruckus (the guitar was on and plugged into the amp) saved me as my Aunt came into the room to see what was going on. But he'd had time enough to leave a small nick on the top of my head- I'd say that might count as a concussion.

i think i got a minor one couple of years ago after getting my face re-arranged in an ugly binge drinking incident. they gave me a CAT scan and i don't know if that would show up on one, but i was thoroughly nauseas for a few days afterward.

At least one.

Lehigh, July 2006.

Maybe that's why I have been having headache issues ...

"Is 33 middle aged?"

I was referring more to the potential targets than the weapon itself. Like a "heat-seeking" missle describes the target.

But yeah... 66 could be a good life span for some.

I keeeed.
