Yeah the "6'5" rocket, laser-armed QB" really played like a winner yesterday. A decent, but not great stat line: 27 of 47 for 349 yds., 1 passing TD (to a lineman), one pick and one "rushing" (if you can call it that) TD. While it's true that Reggie Wayne dropped several catchable balls, Manning was exactly the model of accuracy yesterday, even on a day when his team's rushing attack was working well.
This would have sounded better had Manning and the Colts found a way to lose, AGAIN, but being the McNabb apologist I am I still have to say that Peyton is still a bigger choke artist than #5. (and I say all this thinking the Colts will likely win the SB). The fact that Manning continues to come up small in big games can't be ignored, even though he did lead them back from a big deficit I think the running game (Rhodes and Addai) gets a ton of the credit for that win.
Neither Harrison or Wayne had much of an impact (roughed up again by the Patriots secondary). The only receiver who had a good day was Dallas Clark (helped mightly by that one 52-yard reception).

Sorry Julamy, but Manning has to be given a lot of credit- running game notwithstanding. After he throws that pick that was returned for a TD, and it's 21-3, he could have let himself and the team go "here we go again" and tank it. But he showed you what "poise" and "heart" is all about. You can't take away from some of the HUGE throws he made yesterday.

Anybody watch Manning’s post game interview?
Sheesh, people say McNabb comes of dorky.
Manning sounded like the bastard offspring of Cooter from the dukes of Hazzard and Steve Urkel.

Not taking away his big throws, FB. What I am saying is that while he played a role in that comeback, it was the bit players on the Colts who truly carried the day, not 18.
I for one am not buying the vindication angle now that he has reached the SB. Call it sour grapes or a foolishly myopic desire to defend #5, but for the 2007 postseason I see the stat line this way: Colts 3-0; Manning 6 INTs, 2 TDs. I don't think you can ignore those numbers.

It doesn't really matter yet. If he wins the Super Bowl, he'll have all he needs to shut up every critic he's ever had.
If he DOESN'T win the Super Bowl (and he may be a 10 point favorite by kickoff), he'll have further cemented his place as a small QB in big spots.
I think he'll win in convincing fashion, be the Super Bowl MVP, and it will all be over, but the real story of the Colts has been their defense in the post season. They flat out STUNK this year and their play has offset a lot of Manning's mistakes in the playoffs.

Which brings up another point - if the Colts win the SB (as expected) and Manning gets MVP, does that make McNabb the only elite QB that's not exactly "elite"? Since Manning would have quieted critics like Steve Young did when he finally won one, does that place him above McNabb? The one thing that McNabb has had over Manning is that he got to the SB, but does that change?

Um... wasn't Manning a better QB than McNabb prior to yesterday's victory?
I'm not a huge Manning fan but I respect his game, his accomplishments and his professionalism.

Some people had doubts because of Manning's track record in the playoffs when compared to McNabb.
From a skills standpoint, no doubt Manning's better, but some help McNabb over him because he was able to get to a SB.

And Manning, IMO, was a lock for the hall before yesterday.
I'm just throwing out the question that will undoubtedly be on the media's lips should Manning TCB in 2 weeks.

A couple more reasons I'm rooting for Peyton (and they are sort of ridiculous)...
I hope a Peyton Manning Super Bowl victory will somehow cast more doubt and apply more pressure on his retarded little brother in New York and I want Manning's success to fly in the face of Howard Eskin. I don't even listen to WIP but if I recall, he hates Manning. I just love when that idiot is proven wrong. Too bad I'll never hear his spin if Manning wins.

I would say "Eskin is the worst" if not for the morning show, which makes him look like a certified genius.

I'm rooting for Manning only because I'm rooting more for Dungy.
Helped to rebuild the Bucs, made them perennial playoff contenders, got turfed because he couldn't get them farther, and had to deal with the label of being a "choker" in the playoffs. And let's not forget Indy was still trying to wash off the stench of "Playoffs?!"
Not saying anyone deserves a SB win, but with the way he's been handled, it'd be awesome to see him lift the Lombardi trophy in 2 weeks.

I think Dungy is mildly retarded* and the Colts mostly win despite him, but after the year he had last year with the team's accomplishments and falling short and his personal tragedy... I'd like to see him win it all.
* To clarify... I mainly think Dungy is mildly retarded because in the past Reid has owned him in the post season.

I'm not sure if this year is in spite of him.
They could've easily thrown in the towel on a couple of occasions (the near freefall at the end and the 21-3 deficit), but they held together. He has to get credit for that, at least.
He's always been a classy individual, and I'd like to see him finally win one.

I'm with Bass. I think Dungy is a good coach who got completely thrown under the bus in Tampa. Had it not been for that bogus "no catch" call vs. St. Louis in 99 (I forget who the receiver was, but that was a catch, but it was before such plays were reviewable). They would have won the SB that year. (they held the greatest show on turf to 11 points and that catch would have put them in position to go up 13-11 late in the 4th) Then he had to watch OVERRATED Chucky lead the team he helped build to a SB win.
I think he's a capable and competent coach Johnson. Not even invoking the sympathy angle, but I'm not sure what his major coaching flaws are. If anything he has shaped up to be (up to this point, which could change if he wins the SB in two weeks) a Marty Schottenheimer/Bill Cowher type.

That's good stuff, Johnson. I'll keep that in mind.
In a way, I find myself wanting just a little bit for the Colts to lose. Manning is already solid enough for the HOF, as already mentioned. And right now he's a prime active candidate for deflecting those idiotic "Player xxxx isn't any good because he doesn't have a ring" attacks that fools always fall back on when cornered. It's kinda nice to have Manning in that category.
At least we don't have to hear about the Saints for two weeks.

Amen to that.
Putting up with two weeks of "the Manning family from every possible angle" would have been enough to have me go Amish until the SB.
Thank you Bears.

Rootin for a good game and would be happy to see Tony Dungy win it all.
