Okay...might as start this thread now since it's going to be a non-stop topic this off-season.
1. We all know the first real problem was the way Garcia played. This fan base, as a whole, dislikes McNabb and while they don't root against him, they certainly don't pull for him. Garcia played well enough that the fans are calling for McNabb's head with ever growing vigor.
2. Mama McNabb can't keep her fat trap shut regarding Garcia's success. While everything she said was accurate and understandable, she had no business saying it. She effectively gave a potentially explosive situation plenty of fuel and injected herself into it.
3. There was a report a couple days ago that the team's veteran leadership committee urged Reid to retain Garcia. The report may have been unfounded and it never said anything about them saying they wanted Garcia OVER McNabb, but it was another thing floated out there.
3. McNabb's press conference he scheduled was publicly vetoed by his coach. This could again be nothing at all, but the way Reid publicly made a point of saying McNabb wanted to do it and he chose to not allow him to speak raised questions.
4. There was a report over the weekend (PFT, so take it with a shot glass full of salt) that there was a rift between McNabb and the organization brewing. In large part, they "reported" that McNabb's rehab was going slower than expected and McNabb was blaming Rick Burkholder.
5. This morning, Eckel went on WIP and said the following:
- McNabb was angry with Reid because he wouldn't allow him to travel to NOLA for the playoff game.
- Reid didn't personally notify McNabb that his press conference had been canceled (had an assistant do it). This has added to the rift started 2 weeks ago.
- McNabb is fed up with the nonsense in Philly and may want out (I'm guessing he could feel like his last true supporter, Reid, might be abandoning him).
NOW, every one of those reports is being released by someone or something with a serious agenda. I'm not stating ANY of them as fact, but we might as well stay abreast of these reports and find out how ugly this is going to get, or if Reid will magically squash it all.

The Spuds response:
Well, Mark doesn't cover the Eagles any longer, so I will be interested to see how much of what he says this off-season comes true. Anybody going to keep track of that?
1. Trotter will be back
2. Donovan and Jevon and Lito didn't travel to New Orleans, so ... If Donovan has a problem with that, I don't know of it.
3. Reid spoke with Donovan. I know that for a fact.
Any other rumors?

Oh, let's not play this game, Mr. "Free Agents are another team's garbage" or Mr. "This team should be 12-4". Anybody gonna keep track of THAT?
I don't think it'll get THAT far with McNabb leaving, but I do believe that if someone offers up a #1 for him, Reid is a bit less likely to hang up the phone on them.

But it will be a bit surprising as to what McNabb will say at the Chunky Soup press conference.

I completely disagree with that statement. Some fans, even many fans, maybe. Certainly not the fan base as a whole nor even most.

As I said following the playoff loss, at least Garcia didn't take them to the NFC Conference game. That would have made the impending media fire at least 10x bigger. And if they would have made it to the SB, win or lose? Forget it.

Had they gotten past the Saints, Asskiss believes they would've won in Chicago and beaten the AFC rep. I wouldn't go that far, but they're preparing for Miami if they beat the Saints. And we would be glad that McNabb isn't playing so that he wouldn't have to complete the Hurly Trinity of Florida.

There's no real way of verifying this, but I don't think the above statement is entirely true. Look around the stadium and see how many McNabb jerseys you see. I wouldn't be surprised if McNabb's jersey has sold more than any other on the team. There are many of us, myself included, who would like to see McNabb succeed but are constantly frustrated by his poor decisions, arrogance, unwillingness to let go of stupid incidents of the past, overbearing mother, etc. As much as the guy pisses me off on a weekly basis, I want nothing more than to see him lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl.
I think when you are talking about "this fan base," you are referring to Eagles fans who post to message boards and call-in to talk shows. These people are a very different breed of fan than the average lemming with a midnight green sign in his window. I think McNabb is ultimately supported by a "great silent majority," but he's too insecure to ever realize that.

McNabb's treatment by the fans encapsulates what I hate about Philly: performance is less important than personality. Mike Schmidt is a perfect example.

People buy his jersey and hope he wins, but there isn't a QB in the NFL who gets less respect in his hometown.
If he isn't "disliked" by the fans, he's certainly the most disliked of any successful QB in the league.

In some cases you can argue that, but with QBs, it happens all across the league. Elway was a bum before he was underwhelming, statistically, in his 1st SB. Manning's a great QB, but some people would rather have Sorgi in there because Manning kept losing.
The great ones (or in McNabb's case, the very good ones) aren't immune. It's the nature of the position, and it's like the last apple - you don't appreciate it until it's gone.

This entire thing is another reminder as to why I HATE NEAG. HE personifies all the assholes out there that hate this guy. I am a self loathing eagles fan and am often embarrassed to be associated with these people. They are all over the stadium and for the life of me I cant understand how so many people could be rooting for this guy to leave town. ASSHOLE FACES: WHO ARE YOU GONNA HAVE REPLACE HIM? GARCIA? The same, 37 year old Garcia that went 15-30 in a divisional playoff game? A first round draft pick that will take years to develop? Another QB who is widely considered in the top 5? Its fucking asinine and contributes to this loser-eagle fan reputation. We strive to fuck up something good. The guy is 30 years old for Christs sake and has 6 years of good football left in him. These fickle, considerably racist pricks cant stand having a guy that doesn't "fit" the philly mold. Deal with it. If he leaves this town it will be one of the worst mistakes, if not they worst mistake in Eagles franchise history.

WTF are you talking about MEG? Garcia received more praise in 7 weeks than #5 has ever, yet #5 has accomplished considerably more in his career. When you say "What has he done" you sound niave or ignorant, if not both. Have you not enjoyed being a perennial super bowl pick for 6 years? Going into the season with a feeling of boredom because your just waiting to make sure we had a first round bye? winning more playoff games than losing? Going to 4 NFC championship games and a super bowl? ALL THIS IN HIS first 6-7 years as a starter and another 6-7 to look forward too? He is a superb QB and we as a fan base, like it or not, am lucky to have him.
The sad thing is, more than ever, I see the 'siders prevailing. things do not look good for #5 in this city.

The guy is disliked when they are winning and hated when they are losing. Its sad to say. If I was him, I would beg to get the fuck out of this town. He doesn't deserve 3/4 of the shit put on him.

I don't believe that, before this year, the Indy fanbase was 100% behind Manning. And I mean 100% as in absolute. If I'm wrong, I want to be proven so, but I've felt that it's the nature of the position. The QB gets a ton more credit and blame than anyone else, and I do believe that the fickle nature of the sports fan would have some clamoring for the unproven backup over the established veteran at one point or another.
Not that any fan with SENSE would want Sorgi over Manning, or even Garcia over McNabb, but this kind of thing has been going on for decades.

Agreed... Garcia over McNabb at this point in both their careers would be retarded.
"He doesn't deserve 3/4 of the shit put on him."
His is the highest profile position of any sports team in a major market... you don't think there will be a ton of pressure?
He's also getting paid top dollar on a team that has NEVER won a Super Bowl in a town that hasn't had a championship in 20+ years.
In the biggest game of his life, he got tired and threw up while putting up some decent numbers. His Super Bowl performance sort of resembles his overall career in Philly.
He deserves every bit of criticism he gets along with every bit of praise.
If he can't take it... tough shit. Go play for the Raiders. Believe me the Eagles would somehow survive.

See thats just it. The problem is that you also have a fan base that loves to dish out critisism regardless of whether they know anything of what the fuck they are talking about? How many times have you heard a Mcnabb basher doing what he does best and completley bullshit and bumble around relevant facts. MCNABB DIDNT GET "tired". If you have watched the game more than once, you woudl notice that he got blindsided about 4 times in a span of 12 plays, the last knocking him silly. He was running for his life the entire game and took some brutal shots. He threw up as a result. Not because he was "out of shape". Also, he threw a touchdown pass on that same drive.
