Dude, ive never become ILL before, readin a post from a guy who is a great poster but COME THE FRICK ON HOLMES!?

You sound like you've been drugged! You sound like 1 of his clan.

A) The most criticized Philly Athlete? I'll give you one who's had it way worse- Cunningham. THAT GUY fought outright biggotry (sorry, McNabb hasn't- the notion of a black QB is far from taboo or rare these days, picture Randall in THIS city, back THEN, and the mistakes he would make were MAGNIFIED TEN FOLD). He wasn't a BABY (A wackadoo, yes, but a whinning baby? Well, maybe at the VERY end under Raybob that last yr) But you get the point.

Most of McNabb's criticism stems from a Mike Schmidt-esque disconnect with fans (oh, I can only HOPE McNabb makes the HOF someday and has a similar Mea Culpa ready for the fanbase who, FOR THE VAST MAJORITY- SUPPORTS HIM and wishes him NOTHING BUT SUCCESS!).

"He got booed by 30 drunks, plied with booze on a radio station's chartered bus so they'd get the publicity they sought, and he cant get over this?

A real leader, man etc. would maybe harness some of that "I'll show them" mentality and go out and impress/win em over (like, oh I dunno, Garcia did???) and be done with it. "

It is a valid point. According to the press, EVERYONE wanted Feeley at QB when McNabb went down. The "sports journalists" played up that the fans cheered when Garcia got dinged and booed when he got up. Yet, he showed mental toughness and won.

However, with that said, I still would rather have McNabb under center next year. Hopefully he takes a little lesson from the Garcia "can do" attitude, checks the ego at door, shuts his momma's piehole, and of course, has a balanced playbook.

NEAG, thanks for the morning chuckle.

I also read and heard parts of his press conference. He said all the right things and I hope he really means them. Possibly his best press conference ever. The cock-eyed optimist in me wants to believe this is a new McNabb.

Yes, of course we ALL would rather 5 be under center. NO question about it.

Someone email a link to this thread to the Wilma's Blog, will ya? She can pass it onto her Son and maybe we'll be fine.

McNabb:

I was THRILLED when they selected you. So were MANY of my friends who are "Loyal, Knowledgeable and Passionate" Eagles fans.

I love what your skill set brings to this team, this offense, and realize how valuable a commodity you are- all one need do is look around the league and see how FEW franchise QBs (of which you are unquestionably one) there really are.

I respect that you play through pain, and are always dilligent in your recovery from the injuries you sustain that require you miss playing time. I believe this is a by product of an excellent work ethic.

My 1 wish for you would be to let go of the past, and just try to create a mental 'do-over' with how you're perceived in this city is concerned.

Progress isnt made by looking in the past, or holding onto grudges or even wounds from an event that likely DID hurt at the time.

Realize the WIP does not accurrately reflect the fanbase.

Realize that most DO like you, value your contributions and please, do your part to not DWELL on every SUPPOSED criticism passed to you by uninformed or instigating press member. Remember instead and embrace, the ROAR on Sundays when you emmerge from the tunnel, finger held skyward, prior to a game.

That should do it.

We've had this discussion before, but this is just wrong.

Eric Lindros comes to mind.

For reasons far more warranted perhaps, but A.I. received 5 TIMES more.

"McNabb is the most criticized athlete in Philly history,"

Since when? ANd why? Because he says so?

Seth's right about Cunningham, but even Jaws was ripped apart when he was here. Why should anyone get special dispensation from being ripped simply because it's McNabb? The QB is ALWAYS ripped because it's the nature of the position. The only way you don't get ripped is if you win a SB, and it's even worked for Trent Dilfer. This is my point that he worries too much about how the print media views him, when most of them would run him over if it meant a story.

Shoot, instead of embracing the limited hate, he should be looking at how other QBs handled criticism and ficitional "factwriting". And if he stopped for a second to think about why his hate is "jusitified", he'd see the wave after freaking wave of people sporting McNabb jerseys. Not Garcia. NOt AJ. Not even Neckbeard.

This guy is still mad that he got booed, and I'm sure he's still a bit miffed that people were chanting for AJ. Not when he went down, but 5 years ago when he played horribly the 1st 2 games.

I don't know enough about Dick Allen to defend my point.

I've maintained the same, exact position on McNabb for the past few years, though...haven't changed my opinion AT ALL.

Lindros was criticized more? ARE YOU KIDDDING? Iverson? Come on...the fans LOVED Iverson.

Yep, and the fans love McNabb. THere are the vocal minority and media, exactly like with AI, who rip him. That's it.

Allen would get death threats and was always ripped by the fans and media. It got pretty ugly, but even he was able to put it behind him and came back.

You guys have got to be kidding. I seriously feel like you're all joking at this point.

Do we seriously have to go over every ringer McNabb's gone through to prove my point?

Yikes...you guys have SHORT memories.

Not true IN THE SLIGHTEST. Fans feels completely, 100% different about McNabb and Iverson.

Allen would get death threats and was always ripped by the fans and media. It got pretty ugly, but even he was able to put it behind him and came back.

So a black player got death threats in the 60's? I'd say that's much worse than what McNabb goes through (obviously). Still, if you have to go to black players in the civil rights era to trump him, that tells you something.

Still, McNabb doesn't search the internet for message board polls of the real fans. The media brings bad news to him, without context, and say "The fans hate you...how do you feel about that?"

Sorry, FD, but being ignorant is not an excuse for distaste in my book. As media savvy as McNabb claims he is, he should know that most of these knuckleheads come to him with an agenda. And he's supposed to trust them when they say that "a poll shows 70% of people want Garcia at QB" without checking to see if the poll was held at Woody's?

So he'll believe the media when they say "they'd rather have X over you" when he can look at the fans themselves and see they'd rather he retire as an Eagle?

It'll be that same ignorance that ends up alienating the people out here that do support him.

This is an insane argument. If he or anyone around him reads the papers, listens to the radio, listens to the questions and polls being presented to him in his press confeerences...any of it (any possible source of information available to him), he's supposed to say "I know people love me".

Why would anyone think that?

That's right, I forgot everything from that era was either wiped out or stopped being talked about in the great McNabb Purge of '99. My bad.
