No, that was one example. You disagree with the others, but most of us don't.
You think Iverson was more criticized by tehfans and media than McNabb? You think Lindros was?
You can say that with a straight face?
Randall...there was the "black QB" element, but most fans embraced him.

Eric Lindros deserved every last bit of criticism he ever received.

I didn't have a radio, TV, or a library card in the early 60's either.

Please, people were happy when he got hurt and a "white" QB was starting. I remember all the calls on 610.

That's right, I forgot everything from that era was either wiped out or stopped being talked about in the great McNabb Purge of '99. My bad.
Take it easy...I'm just saying I didn't know enough about Dick Allen. I was an O's fan until I moved away and became more of a Phillies fan since they were my TV option. I knew a good bit about the Phillies from the mid-late 80's on because they were still regional, but I didn't dive into the history and look up Dick Allen.
I don't think it's a crime and I openly admited it.
How much more blood would you like?

While keeping in mind that your average QB gets tons of criticism, yes, AI got more hate than McNabb. Evidenced partially by the number of people who were heartbroken to see him go.

Now THAT I don't remember. And he SO got ripped to shreds after a bad game. And he wasn't nearly as protected as McNabb is.
Wonder how McNabb would feel if Feeley came in for a series during a playoff game.

And I believe there was much rejoicing, over race barriers and economic restraints, when Barkley punked him.
Guess that's what Dr. King meant in his "I Have a Dream" speech...

My whole point with McNabb is the amount of criticism he receives and what he does to warrant the criticsm.
My revised statement will be: I believe McMabb gets more un-warranted criticsm than any Philly athlete on my lifetime.

McNabb- Bad dancing (MOONWALK? FROM RANDALL'S ERA NO LESS? If im not mistaken, wasnt my criticism more the TIMING of his Ode to the Pedophiliac one, than the actual dance itself? I BELIEVE it was durin the whole 'he touched me' trial, tho i could be offbase).
Randall- Gold tipped shoelaces.
Your point>? Both got ripped for quirks.
McNabb is lauded as intelligent.
Randall "couldnt read a defense" (READ: he's black and therefore, should stick to a less demanding role on the team, one that would call more on strictly physical attributes- cos he cannot POSSIBLY have the mental capacity to play QB, let alone at this level).

while i don't think mcnabb is the most criticized athlete in philly sports history, he definitely is in the top 5, but i think a lot of it comes with the territory of the position. i also think you have to throw mike schmidt's name into the discussion as well as pat burrell's.
i distinctly remember jaworski getting ripped a lot by fans. my dad, for example, was a casual fan who watched each game but didn't live and die with the team, but i vividly remember jaws being the one player my dad would yell - "get rid of it you bum!" - was heard on many a sunday in addition to saying they should get rid of him, etc.
i do think that a lot of mcnabb's 'criticism' and discussions are over ridiculously stupid things: his off-season training regiment, Vomit-gate, the recent cancellation of the press conference - who f'ing cares if he talks or not? i can't grasp what makes that a major story? did anyone honestly expect him to say anything different than he said yesterday?
outside of maybe the golden boy in new england, pretty much every current QB has gotten ripped and criticized repeatedly by fans and media. but mcnabb's our pinata so that's who we are focused on.

A) I believe Reid caught the heat for the cancellation of the McNabb press conf. Not Donovan.
B) FD- when have you EVER heard it repeatedly stated that he (5) cannot read a defense? No. Cover-Zerogate notwithstanding, he is again and again described by talkin heads on game days etc as being PERFECT for what Andy Reid wants to do with his version of the WCO, how he makes the right reads, or was smart to throw it away, etc etc.
I don't nesecarily even agree with the standard jargon like i cited above, but that IS The common script where 5 is concerned dude.

This is where I think it's different. Most other players are criticized for their play.
McNabb gets that, but he gets the whole other batches of criticsm NOBODY gets.
- Boos on draft day...sorry, but they happened. Minority or not, you can't change history and that was his first moment of exposure to Philly.
- Rush Limbaugh.
- T.O.
- J Wyatt Mondesire.
- Where he works out.
- How he works out.
- How fat he is.
- What he Mom thinks.
- What his Dad thinks.
- Whether or not his teamates like him.
- How he dances.
- How unfunny he is.
- What music he listens to.
I could go on...these are not the same criticisms Peyton Manning JP Losman, or Daunte Culpepper deals with (or dealt with). This is the shit McNabb puts up with.

McNabb is considered intelligent, even moreso when compared to Cunningham.
Just the fact that he runs FB's complicated system is a sign of intelligence. And that's not lost on the minds of a lot of people. Except when you're close to the goal line and time's running out.
Besides, most people don't criticize his intelligence during press conferences - they just rip what he says, not the way he says it, even when they're talkin' 'bout practice.
