...right after announcing that Dallas is using the 'Skins picks to replace the first rounders that they'll have given away for the new head coach.

Dallas should just follow Lurie's pattern since Philly is so great and has so many Lombardi trophies in their showcase.

Jerry Jones could learn a thing or two how to be to so successful like Philadelphia.

Fact of the matter is that if the Herschel Walker to Minnesota trade is never made, Dallas wouldn't have won three SBs in the early 90s and really wouldn't have accomplished anything since, when late 70s? The Redskins never won a damn thing without Joe Gibbs and are learning that they can't resurrect the past...ok maybe they aren't learning. The Giants are wandering aimlessly...up one year, down the next. The simple truth is that the Eagles are poised to be in front of this division for quite some time. If only they could get over the top at some point, we could shut these people up!

OK. Gulp, slurp, there, that's better.

And I do agree with you dude, to an extent. With Parcells gone, Tiki gone, and Snyder still running the Skins, the division is up for grabs, and the Eagles should be in the thick of it. Getting over the top at some point? More percosets, please.

Did you guys catch the Raiders offer of Moss, Porter, and a 1st round pick swap for Vick?

The best part of all of this is that in as little as three years, we could see a washed up Owens and Moss line up beside Vick as starters for the Redskins.

That trade is absolutely insane. I really don't think any lucid NFL GM would offer that (but this IS Al Davis we're talking about).

Vick isn't worth a 4th round pick at this point, let alone the #1 pick in the draft. Moss is unmotivated, and Porter's stock has plummeted.

And Vick is at best average.

That trade "rumor" has to be junk.

I heard another "rumor" involving McNabb to the Viking sfor 2 first round picks and a 3rd round pick, but that also seemed completely ridiculous.

'Tis the season for complete nonsense.

Where was this "reported" and why would trade talks be floating around before the Super Bowl is even played?

Back to Dallas' coaching search. This bit from Adam Schefter's column made me smile...

"Jones also has been an admirer of San Francisco offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who coached in Dallas during the halcyon days of 1991-93."

I caught it as one of the top 5 football stories on the Yahoo Fantasy site. Here's the link to a Rotowire story that attributes it to FoxSports.com

Meanwhile, on FoxSports.com (which I never visit), this story isn't on the front page as far as I can tell. Instead, the only Vick story linked there is "Falcons ownership says Vick won't be traded or cut."

Who knows. But knowing the Raiders, I wouldn't rule it out.

Anything is possible with Al Davis and I've always thought Vick would end up there because he's a freak with a huge arm and I could see Davis drooling over his athleticism (both his runnign ability and his amazing arm strength).

However, if Atlanta is moving Vick, it's mostly to change get his stink off their franchise...they don't feel like they can trust him to lead and represent the organization. What's the point in doing that if you assume the contracts of two whiny malcontents who have had brushes with the law?

Second, if they were going to move up in the draft, it would probably be for Calvin Johnson. He's beign touted as the best prospect in the draft, the Falcons need WRs, they reportedly covet him, he's from Atlanta, and he would love to play there.

Seems like a match made in heaven.

However, they'd have spent 3 first round picks (Peerless Price, Roddy White, and Michael Jenkins) on WRs in the last 4 years, plus raftign a 4th in the first round, AND assumign the big contracts of 2 veteran WRs.

Seems like hyper-super overkill even if they didn't use that pick on Calvin.

The final straw is the Raiders new coach. He's from the USC system and he's trying to change the culture there. Does he really want a running QB or a potential character problem?

They already have their choice of whoever they want to take in the draft. They could trade away Moss and porter to somone for lower picks, they could probably trade for Matt Cassel to teahc everyone the new system/be Doug Pederson.

I'm just not buying it even though you can never rule anything out with that crazy old man.

Also, why would a team take both Porter and Moss when Porter acted pissy because he didn't want to share the spotlight with Moss last year?

Kalbo, seems how you are mentioning how other teams would not have had a super bowl if all the stars alligned perfectly, can you explain to me why the eagles do NOT have any?

...or we can go this way with it... If the eagles didnt have cunningham then they wouldnt have won 5 games those years, or if they didnt have macnabb the last xx years then they wouldnt have one anything.

SnB, I'm not telling you is that the stars aligned in the Cowboys and Reskins cases. Jimmy and Jerry made one great trade that set that team up for the ONLY success it's had in nearly 30 years time. The Redskins had a good working combination in Gibbs and his GM (name slips my mind), and that was their only period of success in the same timeframe. I point this out because the Eagles have something good in Reid and Co. right now. It hasn't materialized into a championship (yet) but there is reason to believe that it still could. I, nor you, can say the same thing for any other team in the division. Sure, they won't spend the budget and always seem to overestimate the weak parts of the roster, but the sound management has been in place for eight years. If the organizations stays stable at the top, the team will continue to have a chance to win every season...certainly as long as these other management teams in the division stay in place.

Congratulations on your lucky trade in what, 1989? It brought three championships. It wasn't stars aligning, but a good trade and good draft picks by a very good talent evaluator in Jimmy Johnson. When Jones dumped Jimmy, that team tanked. Switzer only won with Johnson's leftovers but lost the team disciplinarily. The rest of the years since have been mediocrity, at best.

Wasn't Bobby Beatherd (sp?) the Skins Gm back in the glory days? Hard to believe the same guy went to San Diego and screwed up royally. I guess he suffered from Bob Clarke Syndrome before the disease had its rightful name.

And I wouldn't call the Dallas trade lucky. I'd call it shrewd and brilliant.

Unfortunately, while the Eagles have a very "stable" franchise, that's all they have. They have absolutely no desire to win now, and their words and actions back this up. If the Eagles do win a championship, it will be as a result of some lucky breaks or good calls on the field. A better spot of the ball, a holding flag thrown, or the decision to go for it on 4th down can make all the difference in the world in the playoffs. However, this Eagles team has proven that their personnel decisions will never put them over the hump because they are far too conservative to take a bold risk on a free agent or trade. The failures of Terrell Owens and Darren Howard (and to a lesser extent Kearse) have essentially ended any hopes of a big-ticket free agent coming to Philly in the near future.

I'm not saying this team will never win the big one, but if the Eagles ever win a Super Bowl, it will be in spite of their personnel decisions, not because of them.

Talon, agreed...I did say they were too tight with the purse strings and that they always over-estimated the weak positions on the roster. That said, they are definitely in the best position within the division to make a run for several years to come.

And I only say the Herschel Walker trade was lucky because they actually found a GM that was willing to make it. No competent team manager would have done so...shrewd, yes, but also lucky that somebody was available and willing to take them up on it.
