Harbaugh out as ST coach

Well well, it looks like they pulled the trigger on that one. Harbaugh was moved to coach the secondary, with no special teams replacement named yet.

Anyone want to start guessing who they have in mind? I suppose that by putting some space between the new hire announcement, they think they're sparing Harbaugh's image a bit.

I could be wrong, but I THINK this is a promotion for Harbaugh.

I think his goal is to become a defensive coordinator and getting into the defense is a step in that direction.

If you look at the Eagles defensive coaching tree, the last 2 linebackers coaches have become defensive coordinators (Ron Rivera and Spagnuolo) and Spagnuolo went from Secondary coach to linebacker coach.

My guess is this is a move made based on a Harbaugh request.

I guess if that's his career path, sure.

Being a secondaries coach is moving out of the limelight for the moment compared to ST coach. And really, doesn't this set him up for failure? The likely direction that unit is heading is downward, with the expected loss of Hood as nickel and Dawkins continuing to slow down a little bit each season.

And how amazing is it that the LB coaches from this team have moved up to Defensive Co-ords? It's like they signed a deal with the devil to trade the promotion for a lousy on-field product.

I know...it's really ironic. However, when Rivera was the coach, the Eagles had a decent LB corps one of two years. They had a season with Trot, Barber, and Emmons when you could have considered LB a strength.

That said, as bad as the linebacking has been in general, it IS funny.

The real question based on these developments: How soon till David Culley become an offensive coordinator?

I guess this opens the door for Bill Cowher to return to his old team, coming back to his roots in special teams.

This season is gonna rock!

My sources tell me that they are interested in bringing in Vince Papale as special teams coach

I guess this opens the door for Bill Cowher to return to his old team, coming back to his roots in special teams.

I heard the Eagles contacted Cowher about the position, but the ball is in his court now.

Basically, they think Cowher is "a good coach", but they also think they have "a heck of a lot of good coaches already on staff".

They have assigned him a value, but are aren't sure if he "really knows his market value yet", considering "the condition of his knees".

They think he'd be a great addition to the staff "if he's straight", but it's a tough decision to make for everyone.

They believe he'll make a great coach here or somewhere else, epecially onces he settles into that area after "notifying his neighbors" he's moving there and has found a house "at least 1 mile from all schools and daycare facilities".

But they think he's just a "heckuva guy" and hope it works for everyone involved.
