I think you misread what I said: the team and teammates DID say he had arthritis. They're not acting like it's a mysterious illness at all.

If in fact Simon does have the HIV, we could most certainly rule out IV drug use as the cause.
He's also a devout Christian so I think we can rule out deviant and immoral sex.

Well if IV drugs and deviant sex are out ...
He either had a blood transfusion from 1981 or somebody must have laced a deep fried Twinkie with the HIV.

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone has actually said it's polyarthris. That term, as far as I know, was obtained through an "unnamed source".
Even so, if he had polyarthritis, you would assume it was related to 1 of two things: another illness causing it as a side effect of sorts OR excessive wear and tear on his body as a defensive tackle in the NFL.
If the answer was "B" and I ws Simon's agent, I'd put him up on a cross. "My clients gave his all and his health to the game of football and they are refusing to pay him the money they promised in his contract becasue the game they pay him to play caused him health problems!"
That is, unless you knew there was a counter argument the Colts could release that would ruin the career and potentially the life of your client.

And how would this affect the NFL in any way other than negative? I think there's more riding on this than just one player having HIV.

Who has more to lose if Simon has HIV...Simon or the NFL? I mean, look how the NFL crumbled after Ron Mexico's stroy was released?
On a serious note, I've never actually seen the Colts statement, but here it is (issued right after they shelved Simon):
"Today, we have placed Corey Simon on the NFL Non-Football Illness/Injury list. In deference to Corey's privacy and in compliance with federal medical privacy laws, we may not discuss the particulars of Corey's condition other than to say it is an illness not an injury and is unrelated to the knee surgery he had in August. It is not football-related. Fortunately, we are told it is not life-threatening, but it has severely limited Corey’s ability to condition, practice or play and has been debilitating for him."

This is the statment from Simon't agent upon hearing the news:
Roosevelt Barnes, Simon’s agent, was surprised by the announcement.
“Corey had surgery on the knee and had been rehabbing, getting ready to play,” Barnes told the Associated Press. “That’s my understanding as to what kept him off the field. Eventually, he expected to play. Corey loves to play, as you know.”

No doubt, but I don't see how it sheds any negative light on the NFL or the Colts.

Last time I checked, HIV is life-threatening.
One of his teammates at the Super Bowl called it arthritis. I remember someone else being interviewed later in the year.
Montae Reagor, who is in Miami [for the Super Bowl] but will not play Sunday against the Chicago Bears because he is recovering from facial surgery. "Me and Corey are real good friends," Reagor said. "I talked to him about a week ago. He's doing fine. He's determined to recover from his injuries, and he's doing good. He's recovered from his arthritis, and he's in good spirits. Corey is always a positive guy."

Plus, he mentioned it was polyarthritis in October when he first filed the grievance, and said he could have played in two weeks.

No doubt, but I don't see how it sheds any negative light on the NFL or the Colts.
Considering the NFL's super-sensitive stance on anything that may be construed as negative, plus a disease that some people don't understand (and mislabel it as something else).
Not saying that the NFL will crumble if it came out that a player who has HIV played, but it has the possibility of being a bigger media circus. Of course, with the NFL's stranglehold on news and stuff, I doubt it'd see the light of day even if he has the HIV.
And correct me if I'm wrong, KB, but I thought HIV was what causes AIDS, and that HIV in and of itself (technically) wasn't life-threatening.

Just for the record:
NOBODY @ 1 Novacare Way SAID HE HAS HIV OR AIDS.
NEVER.
The hinting at speculation amongst some is all that was intimated- which is a far cry from a declaration. Just want that out there.

I imagine he WILL be able to recover from his arthritis on some level (at least to the point where it doesn't cause him constant pain). The arthritis in this case is more of a symptom.
By the way, he was checked out at the Mayo Clinic, which also leads me to believe that he was suffering from something a little more extensive than my Grandmother's achy joints.

That's b/c he can afford it and wondered why every joint in his body was in pain, probably. Maybe he thought it was bone cancer. Who knows, but you don't need to go to the Mayo clinic to be tested for HIV

That's probably the reason why they were being technical, KB.
For the record, I don't know if he has it, but even if he does, I doubt we'll ever hear of it.

No...you go to the Mayo clinic because you can't figure out what the fuck is going on.
I think it's possible a team doctor who specializes in injuries and rehab might overlook HIV as the cause for joint pain in a 370 lb. defensive tackle.
Again, I'm not saying all this is true. I have no idea.
Everything about Corey Simon over the past 18 months is just strange.

That's kind of what I'm saying. You don't need to go to Mayo clinic to see if something's wrong. You could go to any doctor, explain symptoms, and he would say to get the HIV test, or whatever.
That's why I was curious about what led the Eagles to think he had HIV. What testing was done, etc.

Time to move on f-dallas. Besides the Birds have
Can you believe Mcdougle (as a rookie) outproduced Bunkley as a rookie in only 8 games?
I get a sick feeling about Bunkley. I wanted him, but I don't know how he can be so bad as a rookie and end up being a good NFL player.
