BTW, HIV was one of a hundred rumors floated out there. There was a rumor he went to the Mayo clinic for a painkiller addiction. That wouldn't surprise me, either, I guess.

That's kind of what I'm saying. You don't need to go to Mayo clinic to see if something's wrong. You could go to any doctor, explain symptoms, and he would say to get the HIV test, or whatever.
I have no idea...I don't know how team doctors operate. I imagine they focus on the physical injuries and he was showing physical symptoms. I could be wrong, but that could have led them completely inthe wrong direction and they might not have ever even considered something like HIV.

I could be wrong, but I think he was checked AT the Mayo Clinic, but not check "in".

Which is why I was curious about what led the team to believe that.
In regards to the Mayo clinic, i just read he went there. None of the articles I read said how long he was there or anything, but I could have missed it.

I found this are quotes from Polian before and after they shelved him that SEEM to rule out any kind of drug addition:
“Corey? We just don’t know. We keep running tests and we simply don’t have any answers. It’s frustrating."
“We reached this decision reluctantly and only after extensive tests were run by our medical staff and many outside medical specialists, including those at the Mayo Clinic.”

Yeah, I'm not saying it's a valid rumor, just one of many that have been floated out there.

They would definatly test for HIV. No doubt about it b/c they don't want to miss something like that.

WOW! Many things, gents:
1) HIV's early manifestation is malaise and typical viral prodrome (which can include joint aches). To my knowledge there is NOTHING that suggests you get arthritis from HIV, however, once a patient develops AIDS (as a consequence of a depleted immune system FROM the HIV virus), then he/she is susceptible to many different infections which CAN affect joints.
2) As for polyarteritis nodosa, that is an immune disorder which has bizaare manifestations which would prompt some to go to specialized centers for testing. For that matter, any autoimmune, vasculitis, or connective tissue disorder could give similar symptoms.
PS, HIV positive people generally wouldn't manifest symptoms for many years unless the strain were particularly virulent. Furthermore, the initial symptoms (similar to those of any viral infection) usually pass within a short period of time (and they are not particularly severe). It isn't until a patient has full blown AIDS that they manifest severe recurrent illnesses, BUT only when they aren't observing appropriate therapy plans. HIV is rapidly becoming a chronic illness rather than a death sentence, but one with obvious and serious implications. For that matter, so does diabetes.

Medical and other fact-based opinions are overrated.
I say a diagnoisis like HIV comes "from the gut".

There are many illnesess that make a docture want to test you for possiable HIV
If you are even the slightest suspected of having theses....you will be tested....
-Prolonged Mono
-Lyme Disease(because of the joint and fatigue problems)
-Fibromyalgia
-A weekend trip to Hati with GGB
-Cronic Fatigue Syndrome(which I can tell you after 2 1/2 years, really sucks!)
Anytime there is a question with the immune system, or fatigue problems, HIV is one of the first rounds of blood work.
The other thing about Simon, allegedly having HIV, is wouldn't all the other players he played against want to know. It's not like the sweat and blood isn't flowing in those line battles.
On a smaller scale, it was a worry for me and others when I played prop on a Rugby team, and there was always someone bleeding....

Can you just answer if there was actual HIV testing? That's really the only thing I was interested in.
If not, have a good weekend.
