According to AP, via SI, Rhodes got arrested in Indiana for drunk driving. Probably won't hurt his value too much though. Even though Andy's sons are no angles, knowing the fat man's preference for choir boys, that might eliminate him from consideration by the Birds brass.

Dillon's got a case of fumblitis, plus I doubt anyone here would want to take on his malcontent personality.

Malcontent personality? If you mean when he was playing on those crappy Bengals teams whose ownership was the laughingstock of the league back then, well- you'd have been a "malcontent" too. By all accounts, Dillon isn't and hasn't been that guy. Of course, winning a Super Bowl can do that for your image. But I think that label is not necessarily accurate- I think Dillon did what he had to do back then to get out of a horrible situation (at the time)...

No, F_B. Dillon HAD a chance to get out of Cincinnati when he was a FA, before all this mess happened. It was known that he didn't like the organization, didn't like the front office, didn't feel they were committed to winning, etc. So instead of taking a deal someplace else as a contender when his contract was up (and he was a hot commodity at the time), he instead chose to stay in the place where he complained the most, continuing his complaining while running away with a huge contract.

It's not like he was married to the Bengals. He had his chance to leave and didn't take it, choosing instead to be a rich bitch.

Unfortunately for Dillon, reputations die hard in the NFL, and some league observers remain skeptical. "I'll tell you this," says one league G.M. "That coaching staff's ability to keep players focused on what's good for the team will be tested now that Corey Dillon is there. He's one mean, selfish (jerk) who cares only about himself. Always has been."

Of course, playing in Cincinnati can bring out the worst in anyone, and Dillon claims that most of his problems were a reaction to the losing and mismanagement of the Bengals. The Pats agreed.

"This whole game is predicated on winning. Bottom line--do the mathematics," says Dillon, who played on teams that compiled a 34-78 record during his seven seasons in Cincinnati. "That's where I was coming from. I just wanted to be part of an organization that thrives on winning."

Sounds like a reasonable explanation to me.

He had his chance, F_B. That's my point.

Him going to NE and winning a SB doesn't change the fact that he didn't leave by his own devices when he had the chance. If he were so "wanted to be part of an organization that thrives on winning", then he would've left instead of signing another contract. You don't complain about a team, have a way out, and decide to re-sign with that team while still complaining about them.

I'm just saying that the circumstances of the sitation (Marvin Lewis coming in, promising a new attitude, then Dillon promptly losing his job after getting hurt for the first time in his career) had something to do with it, but all people remember is the label. You can't judge a man for the rest of his life over one specific situation. You'll agree there hasn't been one peep of discontent in NE, right? Even when Dillon has lost his full time status?

He was bitching long before the situation with Lewis. That just gave him another opportunity. He did't have to stay, he chose to, and bitched anyway.

How often do we hear about people being discontent in NE? Winning and all that does that.

Still, I don't think that he's quite the prima donna that Owens is. He's not quite the team killer, and they are much better run up in NE, so there's little chance for him to show his malcontent.

Still, how would he fair in an organization that isn't run like the Pats? Would he still be the quiet soldier he is now, or would he start voicing displeasure if the team's not winning?

OK, let's review:

After the 1999 season, Dillon said he would rather flip burger than play for the Bengals and threatened to not play the following season. He was a RFA, and the Bengals got him to play by having him sign a $3 million contract for that one year.

In 2001, in the year of his free agency and him being a hot commodity after posting really good #s, he signed a 5 year, $26 million contract.

Marvin Lewis joined the Bengals in 2003, a full 2 years later. In that year, Dillon complained that he wasn't appreciated, by fans, by the team, by the media.

Now, with all that in mind, why would he sign a long-term contract in a place that he didn't feel he was appreciated?

You talk about labels, and that's all fine and good, but he deserves this one, IMO. He had the chance to leave, and instead chose to stay and complain. guess all that talk of being part of a winning organization didn't matter when the rubber hit the road back then.

"Yours too!"

What, by stating how he was already complaining before his whining in his last year, and how he had an option to leave?

I rip McNabb enough on here that it was weird for you to bring him up(besides the obvious fact that he has nothing to do with Dillon).

Well, that's.....unusual.

BTW, his agent is denying this. He's saying he wants a release, but not to retire.

BTW, this sounds a little like they are trying to break up with the Pats before the Pats break up with them. I think it was pretty certain that he was going to be released whether or not he requested it.

The ol' "You can't fire me; I quit" trick.

Any difference in money he gets if he retires as opposed to if (when) he gets released?

The Sept. 2 trade that sent center Hank Fraley from the Eagles to Cleveland for a conditional draft pick in 2008 was upgraded to a fifth-round selection after Fraley played all 16 games for Browns ... ESPN.com reported the 49ers signed Eagles safety Michael Lewis. No contract details were available ... The Giants have expressed considerable interest in cornerback Rod Hood, who could be reunited with former Eagles linebackers coach Steve Spagnuolo, who was named the Giants' defensive coordinator Jan. 22. Hood also will visit the Browns and Cardinals ... Wynn Silberman, the agent for Titans unrestricted free agent running back Chris Brown, reportedly has the Eagles on a short list of teams his client plans to visit ... Ike Reese, named to the Pro Bowl as a special teams performer for the Eagles in 2004, was cut by the Atlanta Falcons yesterday. There is a chance Reese could return to the Eagles to finish his career.

Id like it better if T.Henry were comin in for a visit, but IF Brown is healthy and presumably gettin just a handful of snaps a game, I suppose he COULD be worth a flier (read: cheap-o contract).

Not sure what the FO is thinking(as if we the fans ever really know) but the idea that they are looking at both RB and LB in FA leads me to think they will be positions they look to draft, 2nd day picks most likely but who knows...
