Not shocking, I guess:
Reid Takes A Leave Of Absence
February 12, 2007
Eagles President Joe Banner has announced that head coach Andy Reid has taken a leave of absence from his duties as the team's head coach/executive vice president of football operations to attend to personal matters involving his family.
Here is what the Eagles released in a brief statement:
"Philadelphia Eagles President Joe Banner today announced that Andy Reid will take a leave of absence from his duties as head coach/executive vice president of football operations in order to attend to personal matters involving his family. The leave of absence will last until approximately mid-March 2007. At that point, Reid will return to his regular duties with the Eagles."
Banner will address the media at 1:30 p.m. today in the NovaCare Complex auditorium and you can watch it live on PhiladelphiaEagles.com. Also, a special edition Eagles Live! will start at 1:20 p.m. today.
Reid has been dealing with the recent legal troubles involving his sons, Garrett and Britt, and will miss the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis from February 22-28.
Free agency begins on March 2. The NFL draft is on April 28-29.

So he'll be back in plenty of time resign some former players (Like Pinkston and Reese) in free agency and not acquire an impact free agent... as well as select some "fastballs" and bench depth in the upcoming draft.

Is anyone
a) Surprised?
b) Concerned for the state of the team in the least?
Put me down for 2 'No's and lets get something started in the concourse about the Grammy's or something....

Surprised? No.
Concerned about the state of the team? No.
Wondering why there was a roundabout date for his return instead of "indefinitely" or "for the time being"? Yep.

F-D, please don't interrupt the FA Positions of Interest project for this unimportant drivel. I am on the edge of my seat awaiting the "Punters" and "Long Snappers" editions.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is leaving for good (or a year) and the team is using this time to deflect questions about his future and figure out what they'll do.

Exactly. The reason the dates are what they are two-fold, IMO.
First, he'll have time to sit down with his team watch film, and get schooled for the draft.
Second, they are "building" an excuse for the future. I can read the post-season PE.com story already:
"Would the Eagles have been more aggressive in FA and signed that player they needed to put them over the top had Reid been able to oversee the operating during the first 2, critical weeks? Questions, questions, but the reality is the Eagles just need to get more production out of the linebackers and d-line while adding speed at the WR position".

HA! I'm done with those...I was only doing positions and specific players of interest for the Eagles.

Spuds:
"When Reid comes back- and he IS coming back-...."
So, the guy at the gate has spoken.

Great. Happy Valentine's Day to all the hack writers. Free columns can now be written on:
-how long will Reid be out
-how will this affect FA?
-how will this affect the draft?
-who is available to replace Reid if he doesn't return?
-will Reid gain weight if he doesn't have to commute to the office?
-What does McNabb think?
-What does Ownes think?
-Future: Is this the reason Stallworth got away?

I'm with IMS on this one. I'm glad he'll be unavailable to scout college players/potential draftees. Maybe his replacement will have better success in the draft than the fat man has had (fingers crossed).

It says more than anything that there is NO major plans to sign any big time FA (as most of us anticipated). It is going to be a quiet time for most eagles fans during FA as many teams splurge on below average FA.

"I think that anybody who knows Andy knows the importance of priority his family plays in his life and what he needed to be able to do what he needed to do," said Joe Banner.
Hmm, right now Joe, that statement is a bit questionable.

I heard that the whole kids in trouble thing is just a smokescreen. Tammy is forcing Andy to take time off so she can take care of his dirty bagel with her long, sweet tongue
