I saw that earlier...was it just that one Boston radio station reported it and they all echoed it into fact?

He has NOT signed with N.E.

As of now. STILL A F.Agent.

"...we tracked down Rosenhaus personally, and he told us: "There is no deal, and nothing is imminent."

Stallworth visited with the Patriots on Tuesday, and will next visit with the Titans, and then with the Dolphins. No decision on his next destination is expected until the end of the week, at the earliest.

[UPDATE: ComcastSportsNet.com has revised its story, calling the reports of a deal 'premature." In true Tribune-Review fashin, the reference to confirmation from the office of Drew Rosenhaus has been scrubbed out of the story.]

this is a FWIW, and contains no inside info

titans game this yr. my football buddy and i had the pleasure of hosting a friend and his son (about 9yrs old ). we get into the stadium early, about noon. this was their first visit to the linc for football. we knew a place where you can watch some of the early warm-ups, right down at field level, with the watchful eyes of security keeping tabs on you. anyone who ever gets in that early knows that dmac comes out early and warms up with all WR's. hell, in '04, he and T.O. used to be a two-man show. all of the players usually warm-up in light athletic gear, sans pads. when stallworth got to our end of the field, running his patterns, he looked cut and bulky for a speedy WR. i even kind of thought to myself at the time that he must have spent extra time in the weight room.

now, for all i know, stallworth has been picked up for coke or alcohol, not the juice. but thought that was too big a coincedence not to share.

I think you're just used to seeing Pinkston. Even WRs in the NFL have to have some bulk on them.

The latest from Bob Brookover:

Did Stallworth get Eagles offer, or Patriots bid?

Conflicting reports were circulating about the wide receiver. In the end, he still could return to Philadelphia.

By Bob Brookover
Inquirer Staff Writer

What should Eagles fans believe? Offer or no offer? Deal or no deal?

Your head could spin around more than Linda Blair's in The Exorcist as you try to get a grasp of what's going on in the NFL's free-agent market.

Wide receiver Donté Stallworth is a classic case - and, of course, the most interesting to Eagles fans.

At various times yesterday, there were reports that Stallworth had received an offer from the Eagles, had signed with the Patriots, and had left a visit with New England to travel to Tennessee and Miami.

Some of those stories were actually true and some were not.

Let's start with the report that Stallworth received a contract offer from the Eagles.

Not true.

A league source said yesterday that agent Drew Rosenhaus and the Eagles spoke Monday to discuss an article in that day's Inquirer, which revealed that Stallworth is in the NFL's substance-abuse program. The Eagles wanted Rosenhaus to know that they were not the source of that story, which is true.

In the course of the Eagles' discussions with Rosenhaus, the agent asked the team if it would be willing to negotiate a one-year deal with the wide receiver if and when the two sides started talking about monetary terms. The Eagles said they would be open to that idea, and they have not dismissed the notion of negotiating a long-term contract, either.

Meanwhile, Stallworth visited the Patriots yesterday despite the fact that New England made a trade with Miami the day before to acquire wide receiver Wes Welker. The Patriots still have interest in Stallworth, probably because wide receiver Chad Jackson, the team's second-round draft pick last season, suffered a knee injury that could sideline him for the entire 2007 season.

Anyway, according to a report out of Boston, Stallworth left New England yesterday without a deal after it was reported on one local television station that the receiver had signed with the Patriots.

Rosenhaus did not return a phone call from The Inquirer, but he did confirm that there was no deal with the Patriots to the Web site profootballtalk.com. The agent confirmed that Stallworth still has visits to make with the Titans and Dolphins before he makes a decision. He will meet with Tennessee today and Miami tomorrow, according to a report on NFL.com, which also said that the Patriots made Stallworth a contract offer.

In the meantime, another day passed without the Eagles' playing host to any free agents at the NovaCare Complex. The team had some mild interest in linebacker Tully Banta-Cain, who played last season in New England, but he signed with the San Francisco 49ers yesterday.

A league source said the Eagles also have some interest in wide receiver Kevin Curtis, but his situation became muddled Monday when he fired agent Tom Condon. Curtis, a former St. Louis Ram, has visited Minnesota and Detroit and had scheduled a visit with the New York Giants.

As for the Eagles' running back situation, it's still possible that the team will bring back Correll Buckhalter, who played a reserve role behind Brian Westbrook last season. There is some belief, however, that Buckhalter would like to get more work than the 83 carries and 24 receptions he had in 2006 with the Eagles.

The easiest job on the planet has to be that of "Pro Talent Scout" for the Eagles.

(Conversely the hardest job has to be McNabb's Straight Man)

The rest of Spuds article is comical too. He has everybody on the team peaking next year, coming into their own, dominating, deep and talented... blah, blah, blah.

They have no holes, only questions according to him.

I'm guessin his questions for this team are like: "How many defenders will Shawn Andrews pancake next season?" and "How many receptions over a 100 will Reggie Brown have?" and "How many tackles for a loss will Brodrick Bunkley have?" and "How many sacks will Gocong have?"

I'm sure these are the questions Spuds is contemplating.

He says the team is good right now as is.

New headline...

FREE AGENCY IS FOR LOSERS!

What is he pretending, exactly? That the Eagles won't get a free agent and that the players currently on the roster will be on the roster again next year? WOW.

my guess is that after a morning a bitching on the ask Dave segment, they felt the need to change the title to alleviate any future posters from venting

Per TacoBill.com-

Stallworth will have a new home by Saturday AM.

He is supposed to sign with a new team on Friday at the latest. Pats, Titans or Miami are the only teams mentioned with him this wk.

Doesn't sound like Philly's in the mix, per this report.

Yup...not looking good.

There was a glimmer of hope, but the Eagles are being real bitches about this.

I was prepared to kiss Stallworth goodbye for what I expected he'd get ($15- $18 million), but for the $10-$12 million they've been talking about...there isn't any reason to not re-sign him (if that is accrate).

I know they are completely high on their own supply (Avant and Baskett), but it's not exactly going to be a track meet out there.

NOT PLAYIN THE PART OF SPUDS, but hear me out-

for the record i would love to retain Stallworth cos then the rest of what im goin to say is just gravy, and you needn't worry about it but-

Is it just me or did Baskett appear NOT to be as slow as some have remarked?

He looked VERY fast to me on the fly routes when I was sittin up 6 rows from the top at the Linc and could see the entire field.
Anyone else think that he has deceptive speed or 'not stopwatch' speed as the scouts say? Especially for his size.

I think he's a long strider who can probably outrun a lot of people in a sprint, BUT he build steam. Every time he had to bump nd battle down the sideline on a deep route, the CB was on him like glue.

I like Baskett a lot and he's faster than people think (He ran a 4.57 at his size, which is impressive), but I don't think he has deep speed.
