I think it's a toss up which one is funnier...
"But Mahe is an unrestricted free agent and is destined to move on at this time of the year."
Wait, are those birds chirping? Suddenly, everything seems brighter!
Banner may actually try to eat his heart and mount him at the entrance of the Novacare complex.

Deon Grant signed with the Seahawks.
He got a 6 year deal worth more than $30 million and it included over $11 million in guaranteed money.

Eagles signed Will James to a 1 year deal.
I REALLY like this move because if he's able to stay healthy, he'll be a lights out nickel. That's the big question, though.

Good signing on James. This team usually needs the nickel CB to start a handful of games every season due to injury.
I hope that one year deals don't become the new hallmark of this team. They sign young guys to 5- or 6-year deals and anyone that's been in the league gets a one year shot to fail or prove his way to a contract with another team next year.
Actually, James is the first player in a long time to be re-upped from a short term deal in awhile, right? Maybe having him join up at mid-season doesn't really count, then.

Like the James signing, but still need another body back there, probably an early round draft pick.

dont think bethel johnson is destined to be much more than a KR around here, although his stats are interesting in some areas.
he was a 2nd rd pick by belichick in 2003, so he must have shown something in college. out of 39 career catches, 27 are for 1st downs. his YPC avg is 15.5, kick return avg, 24.5 including 2 TD's.
just turned 28 last month.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 10, 2007) -- Donnie Edwards is coming back to Kansas City.
Edwards, the free-agent linebacker who spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Chiefs, agreed to a three-year deal after the San Diego Chargers didn't try to re-sign him.

Patriots sign WR Kelley Washington.
You know, it's fascinating watching the way New England has approached free agency. They are recognizing their weaknesses and spending real money on smart deals to fix their problems. Call me crazy, but it looks like they're trying to win a Super Bowl. (As a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, I've never seen an NFL team actually attempt to win the Super Bowl, so I apologize if I am mis-characterizing New Enagland's efforts. Perhaps they are just trying to lose money and reduce their profits.)
Washington joins rebuilt Pats WR corps
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com
Continuing the wholesale overhaul of their wide receiver corps, the New England Patriots on Monday reached a contract agreement with unrestricted free agent Kelley Washington, who played the first four seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The deal can be for as many as five years, with a maximum value of $22 million, but is also structured so that it could be as short as just one season. Washington will receive a signing bonus of $300,000.
As is the case with the six-year contract agreed to with New England by wide receiver Donte Stallworth on Sunday, the Patriots must pick up an option payment to retain the speedy Washington beyond the 2007 season. It is believed that payment is $4 million.
"I am happy to be a part of such a great franchise, and to have the opportunity to help the Patriots get back and win another Super Bowl," Washington said. "The privilege to play with arguably one of the best quarterbacks of all time, Tom Brady, and to be coached by someone like Bill Belichick is a blessing. I am very excited about contributing to the New England Patriots."
Washington also had a contract offer from the Miami Dolphins.
One of the most active franchises in the early free agent market, the Patriots have been particularly aggressive in rebuilding a wide receiver corps that was a major disappointment in 2006. In addition to signing Stallworth and Washington, the Patriots acquired restricted wide receiver Wes Welker from the Dolphins last week for second- and seventh-round choices in this year's draft.
The gamble on Washington is a solid one, given that the Patriots appear to have made a fairly modest initial investment for a player who has enormous physical upside if he can stay healthy and play to his potential.
Washington, 27, is a big, speedy wide receiver whose career has been stalled by a series of injuries at both the college and professional levels. The former University of Tennessee wideout played only one full season for the Volunteers before leaving school early for the 2003 draft.
A third-round choice of the Bengals in 2003, he has 72 receptions for 893 yards and nine touchdowns in 44 games, including six starts. His best season was in 2004, when Washington registered 31 receptions for 378 yards and three touchdowns.

If they believe free agency is all about signing other teams' rejects, they might as well wait until August when the most rejected players become available.
In the meantime, let's all dream about the Eagles not trading the precious for Lance Briggs. I get excited thinking about how much money and picks they could save by avoiding such a deal.

This is just an update on Curtis...
Apparently, that original contract report was bloated (as they usually are).
it's a 6 year deal worth $30 million with a $7 million signing bonus. There is a $2.5 million roster payable at some point in the future.
So, assuming the last 2 years are nonsense money, it appears this deal is probably more of a 4 year pact worth $18 million, with $7 million guaranteed.

Cut and paste this:
I am not big on June- I think he's undersized and there's a reason he had a tough time latchin on w/ a team. He apparently took a deal worth FAR less than what he believed he'd get when he hit the market too.

Anyone who thinks the Eagles linebackers get trucked needs to watch June.
He's got GREAT speed for a linebacker, makes a lot of plays in the backfield, and is really good in coverage, but 75% of his tackles are downfield.
He makes Matt McCoy look like Dick Butkus as a run defender.
He should be okay in Tampa's D, though. He's just tiny and can't play the run AT ALL.
