Culturally speaking, these guys are gonna kill us in the Rock & Roll category.

Are you kidding?

Everybody knows the Beatles and Stones wouldn't even exist if it weren't for AMERICANS like Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Wilson Pickett, Ray Charles, etc., etc....

Oh, I see what you're trying to say.

Hey GGb, I just figured judging from their website, they'd jump at the chance to yap about how they're not afraid to go anywhere and fight anyone, anytime...

I guess I gave them too much credit.

Look, Im as "Yankee" as the next guy here, but if you wanna be HONEST? As many great American artists as there may be, and the wide circle of influence those folks have/had-

The only battle the Limeys would win over the US is in Music and it would not be that close.

This goes beyond the Stones, Beatles etc. Even if you wanna wall it off and just say- "In the past 30 yrs" and that's a landslide. American Music SUCKS and has for decades.

Buncha soundalikes like the Nickelback set, or the headbangers from the 80's who tried hard to sound like thier English Melba Toast peers (see: Leppard, Def) & don't get me started on the Hip Hop stuff.

Obviously Seth, you're not considering musicians from the jazz/blues/R&B/early Rock and Roll (whose influence CANNOT be discounted)... If you're only gonna count American music of the 80's and 90's, well then you WOULD be correct.

England has put the same amount of crap in the last 30 years, plus there's a ton of good American stuff that isn't as popular as Def Lep and all the other top 40 bs. That whole Brit pop scene is boring beyond belief, it all sounds the same.

Exactly - it's just that a lot of the crap doesn't make it over here. Believe me, I've seen Top Of The Pops.

Let's break it down by decade:

50's - US
60's - UK
70's - UK
80's - PUSH
90's - US
00's - Sweden

I suppose that "Wham" and "The Spice Girls" set the Limeys back a bit in the Cultural debate.

Let's move on to techology, Game Over.

EagleNY, football (soccer) is a contact sport, basketball is a lot more lightweight i think, you can't really touch an oppostion player in that at all.

In football you don't have full control of the ball, unlike rugby or american football, so it's easier to get tackled and you have to compete for possession all the time. A lot of premiership players take advantage of this and try and gain advantages from free kicks etc. A lot of fans aren't too happy in the way its going, years ago you could tackle as hard as you want, now you get sent off if you put any aggression into it. The football authorities and the referees are too soft, they seem to of forgotten that football is a physical sport.

In the music debate, both countries have come out with some decent stuff and some complete shit.

Oh yeh, thanks to the guy that came on our message board and gave us a decent answer.

What you have to realize is a lot of the impressions we (Americans) have of soccer are drawn from the recent World Cup, which I think features more yellow/red cards than any tournament is history. So as your comments indicate, you can see why we view soccer as less than a full-contact sport in the mold of American football.

plus the guys who flop around on the field, only to have the stretcher pick them up, take them to the sideline, where they get up and are completely fine. American sports fans look at that as being cowardly.

as much as i agree with someone on here saying english pop is crap. infact i think its far worse and you can keep boy george and the spice girls we really dont want them back but thank you for the offer. but if your nieve to think we would not stand a chance against you in war then im afraid your very much mistaken.
SAS and SBS best special forces in the world and even the usa have used them because of the experience rather then use your own special forces. so i dont think your win that one.
air to air our guys do all the low level bombing and air to air because the AAF wont do it as they are not trained to fly at the levels our boys do.
dont even mention the stealth bomber because guess who invented the radar to pick it up.... yep we did and much to the displeasure of the whitehouse its in operation. ground troops you have numbers but look how many blue on blues your army has. tanks the challenger 2 tank is the most advanced tank in the world and would pin a abram to floor. your boys have a repatation for rushing in which can be there downfall. i also know a british para who put 6 us marines on the deck on his own in germany the rest left the bar they was in before it got out of hand.
