Comp Picks = Superbowl

Just try and tell me that this hasn't made the email rounds four or five times today at the Eagles front office.

Want to win a championship? Stockpile comp picks

In fact, I heard that they're stenciling this quote on the salary cap vault right now:

"The compensatory pick system rewards teams that draft well and avoid looking for a quick fix. They select a player who becomes a starter. They lose him as a free agent and he gets a lucrative contract, so they are rewarded with a prime compensatory pick. Then they have a chance to draft a player of commensurate abilities who takes up less salary cap space."

Can we have a list of all the compensatory picks that have become starters on this team? Only to leave and give the Eagles another compensatory pick?

It's like the Circle of Life. Only Joe Banner's holding up a compensatory pick to the masses for acceptance.

I think just about everyone here will agree the Eagles FO is the best in the league playing the FA market, signing their own players, letting loose the dead/old weight... the area they need a lot of help is drafting WR's, LB's and RB's that are over 5'11 and 200lbs...

Note that in that same article NONE of the Eagles compensatory picks made his best players list. Having all these compensatory picks is great if you know how to use them.

You know what they say about statistics...

Basically, if you have more draft picks, you're going to have a 'better' shot at picking someone that can help. I'd estimate roughly 70% of first rounders last over 5 years in the NFL, and about 50% of 2nd rounders. It gets worse as you get down in the draft.

What really makes me laugh about that list is if New England drafted Brady with their non-comp pick instead of with their comp pick that round, that list looks mediocre at best. This is like picking a number on a Roulette wheel and after 20 spins when it hits saying your a genious.

It does seem like the Eagles have fewer picks this year than other years. Coincidently, it seems like they've made more free agent moves than usual. Is this a philosophy change, being more like New England Patriorts.?

I don't think they've been much more active than in recent years. Curtis is their only big signing.

The kicker: The comp picks list came out, and the Eagles aren't on it this year!
