I'm I'm Donovan McNabb I'm pretty pissed off right now. There's arguably been only 1 off season where the front office made a move to win NOW since he's been here and that was signing Owens. The Eagles have proven once again that their vision of "success" is being competitive every year, whereas the fans' vision of "success" is WINNING A SUPER BOWL and nothing less.
Is it necessarily a bad idea to draft your QB of the future now? No. But every year, the draft yields ZERO starters for NOW.
It's tiring.

Oh, and forgive me for not believing either running back they drafted sees the field during meaningful game time.

Here's a question to the guys who hate the Kolb pick...
If McNabb can't win the big game, lacks accuracy, is a poor leader, is an Uncle Tom, is hated by his teammates, is injury prone, etc. how can you be upset that the Eagles drafted a guy to replace him?

Thats another thread completely.
I will say this cat seems to be the ANTI McNabb tho, from a temperment/word of peer standpoint.

Like most people I was shocked at the pick, Brian Leonard would have given us immediate production. The more I though about it the more I bought into it. You don't want to end up like Miami, banking on full recovery. On the other side Kiper compaired him to Kyle Boller.

Maybe it's because the guy they drafted to replace McNabb is a run-n-shoot QB from the same school that produced Andre Ware and David Klingler?

Culpepper's injury was a lot worse than McNabb's - doubts were that he would never play again, or at least to the level that he was known for.
Even beyond that, they had an opportunity to get Brees, and they sat on that. It would've been a stretch for Culpepper to even be healthy, let alone play like in Minnesota.
I don't think there's enough info to actively not like Kolb, moreso than there's plenty of blame for drafting a guy for 2-3 years down the line instead of getting an impact player now.

Based on that logic, Quinn should have gone as the first overall pick because he put up huge numbers in the "offense that produced Tom Brady and college that produced Joe Montana", right?

I'm not sure who it was that said Reid hadn't spoken directly to #5, I saw Reid being interviewed on NFL network or ESPN and he said that he called McNabb right after the pick and spoke with him at length and explained the why's... This doesn't say Donovan liked the pick one bit, but they did speak...
I love the video of "nastie" that kid runs a 4.5 40 at 250lbs... if you watch the clip of his 60 yard TD he was pulling away form all the DB's on the field... and even though it's the WAC you have to think the DB's should be pretty fast because all they do is pass... I agree with whoever said they didn't know how affective he would be in short yardage he does look like it takes him a few steps to get his steam up...

We're not going to know if this was a smart or dumb pick for a couple years, but knowing it takes a couple years for a QB to get this offense down and start really producing, why WOULDN'T you draft the guy now if you want him in 2-3 years (if you are a guy who believes all those things about McNabb)?
That's my point, I guess. I don;t know how anyone who doesn't like McNabb as a player can be upset with their attempt to replace them.

At least Miami plays up here this year.

So Eagles fans get to hate the starter and be disappointed in the replacement because he doesn't have years of successful experience in the system?
So, essentially, the only reasonable move for the Eagles was to dump McNabb and deal for a 3 year WCO veteran with "star" written all over him?
Oh, the "passion"!

I just don't see who was around that would produce immediately. The way the Eagles play rookies, the guy wouldn't have been on the field for at least a year anyway

FB, there are a few points to that statement, 1) those two were both drafted by bad teams that needed QB help right away... 2) The Eagles have the luxury of allowing this guy to learn the offense with little to no pressure... Mcnabb is signed through 2014(more likely 09-10) so they have the started in front of him, and they have AJ signed for the next 2 years as well, so Kolb will be able to know the O inside and out before he is ever asked to go onto the field.
As far as team needs that everyone seems to think the birds missed out on, I still think the team is fine. They upgraded the LB corps with spikes and "the new guys" from last year have a full year under their belts as back-ups... The secondary IMO is and will be fine, Lito played hurt through most of last year. He wasn't 100% until near the end of the year, Brown will be fine and the Dawk and Considine are going to be good together and they've got Quinten backing them up...

Which brings us to why some people don't like the way they draft.
FD, I don't think anyone is really saying this move wasn't inevitable (those with racial undertones are especially happy). McNabb is on his way out in one way or another; drafting the heir apparent makes sense. I think a lot of the bile is mixing the Eagles' draft philosophy with the notion that the window is just about closed, and if they had a ton of confidence in 5 that they wouldn't spend a high draft pick on his successor.
And maybe I should've written that "Captain Dry Heave" post in blue, Seth.

And the pick does make sense in that you can't guarantee McNabb will bring back the most of your investment around 09/10.
I'm just waiting for someone to somehow use this to "justify" letting McNabb go and having Kolb learn under the wing of Garthia.

Tattoo,
I just threw out the Houston QB's as a hypothetical answer to f-d's question... Plus I knew he'd be all over it like a bulldog on a bone. I'm not against the pick myself- just a little wary of the track record of QB's from there, that's all...

FB it's funny you say that cause AE and I were talking about that this weekend, basicly is it the QB that flops or does the team flop by not having/getting the right people around him to allow the player to develop correctly... Like Reid drafting McNabb and he got the other T (Runyan) to help Tra protect him... It makes you wonder if the Browns had drafted McNabb and we drafted Couch would the outcome been different?!?
