Regarding SalPAL,
Does anyone really believe, out of a $115 million salary Cap, the Eagles wont hold onto Mcnabb for $6.5 million dollars? AM I crazy seth, FD, or does spending 5% of your salary cap on your starting QB seem rational?

Well I guess it's one of those "where there is smoke there is fire" situations... obviously we as fans don't really know what's going on in the FO(although they could probably use some advice from time to time) but IF the FO or McNabb wanted a contract restrusturing for whatever reason, then there is reason enough right there to decide f'it lets start looking for a knew QB... This team has NEVER signed a guy to a long term contract and then a few years later thought "hmmm we really got a good deal on that contract he is really UNDERPAID, we should redo his contract so it is fair market value" they have of course done contracts and then when the player has gotten hurt several years in a row gone to the player and asked them to restructure to a lower contract so the player will be kept on the team, Hollis and I'm pretty sure Blunt both redid their contract to stay in the good graces of the team.

Is it fair, hell yes it's fair... it is a business first a game second... I will say this I would/will be a little bummed out if this story is true and McNabb won't be on the team next year through trade either by his request or the FO being fedup with the McNabb winery...

Balking at paying McNabb $6 million a year next year can't be taken seriously.

It's cheaper than a franchise tag and not guaranteed money. Now, when you get to the 9-10 million range, I can see the team looking for options.

Of course, it might be easier to trade (since the contract follows him) hext off-season. This gives the team he's been traded to one year at a very workable salary and time to negotiate a new deal.

I can't see the Eagles shuddering at a $6 million price tag for an All Pro QB that runs the system well.

Mcnabb is no Hollis Thomas...
He has and always has been viewed and treated a step above any other player on the team.

mlewis, I was only comparing the FO's history to attempt to redo contracts of players that have been injured...I wasn't trying to infer that they were anywhere ner the same caliber player..

"So, you hate McNabb, want him gone, and don't want to wait until a replacement is ready?"

I don't so much hate Mcnabb as much as I hate what he has become under this regime vs. what I believe he could have been and still has a chance to be given the right situation. Drafting a QB THIS season for "3-5 years" down the road instead of going out there and trying to get Mcnabb some serious help NOW (a la New England).....is NOT the right situation. For all of Mcnabb's perceived faults, I've always held a glimmer of hope that one of these seasons he will get his shit together. He'll never get his shit together on Reid's watch. I'm confined to that reality now.

"With that philosophy, the only solution is trading for a veteran and trading McNabb away."

No...the solution would have been Reid and co. looking at the way WINNERS ( a la New England) do business...and surrounding their star QB with a team that gives him a shot.

"What veteran could they get who would be better than McNabb?"

Jeff George (it's a joke)
never mentioned ANYTHING regarding trading for a veteran...nice try though.

"It's an irrational "want", so when I hear Eagles fans bitching about it it sounds even whinier than any McNabb family venting."

never said anything of the sort...once again, nice try.

McNabb may not like it right now but Kolb could be the best thing to happen to him. Just because he isn't happy doesn't mean he won't play well.

Phil Simms hated Parcells when he played for him, Bradshaw hated Chuck Noll when he played for him.

Sometimes a little tension is a good thing.

He handled pressure fine when the media was all over Rush Limbaugh stuff.

If he doesn't handle it he is the wrong guy to lead the team and they let him go. either way the organization is doing something about that position.

Was that really pressure? Some pill-popping clown with a big mouth says something stupid? Actually I think the Super Bowl performance (4th qtr) is a little better barometer of McNabb's handle on pressure.

Snake, he has the pieces in place now. Westbrook is a star running back and they have a reliable veteran in Buck as well as 3 sets of fresh young legs, two of which are power/short yardage runners.

Reggie Brown is going to be a 1,000 yard receiver and the first organically grown NFL caliber WR the team has brought in. Curtis is a solid #2-ish WR with some speed and ability after the catch. Baskett and Avant are two apparently solid young possession targets with big bodies.

The offensive line is one of the best and deepest in the game.

The TE is a good player. Not Gates, but not slop either.

They fixed the gameplan last year after he went out and they said they will stick with it.

What else can they "do" for him at this point?

The media was all over McNabb asking him how he felt, never easy for anyone to hear they aren'y as good as they think they are. He stayed aggressive in the SB, other than the 3 pics (aggressive), he had decent numbers, he kept firing til the end. Even after he puked, he didn't sit out but rather threw a great TD to Lewis. I respect the hell out of that. Could have used that as an excuse, but did he? No, he produced, he played under the duress. the picks are the concern, not his agressiveness to go for it or the tendency to puke. He didn't let that stop him.

The guy has major ability and since the SB he sat out most of '06 with the hernia, then played 7 or 8 games last year where he was as good as any other QB in the league.

I worry most about the picks he throws, it's getting worse since the SB, not better.

I belive this is a no lose move for the Eagles: If he goes Diva this year, than he is not the guy to lead them and he is gone. On the other hand, he may not appreciate what Reid did, but play his ass off and take them to the ring. Just about every kid who ever played at PSU hated Paterno when they played for hm but later say how much he did for them.

I could care less how McNabb feels about his teammates or his coaches. If getting him pissed at the world, with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove, is the thing that propels him to get it done at the next level, bring it on!

"Snake, he has the pieces in place now. Westbrook is a star running back and they have a reliable veteran in Buck as well as 3 sets of fresh young legs, two of which are power/short yardage runners."

1st, you called Buck reliable????That is a joke! Is that why they brought in all these fresh young legs? This injury prone pot head is done. Yes, Westbrook is a star....A star this regime was ridiculously hesitant to re-sign until the whole T.O mess happened. The only reason they started running the ball more last year was out of necessity.

"Reggie Brown is going to be a 1,000 yard receiver and the first organically grown NFL caliber WR the team has brought in."

You don't know that. And now that you mention it, why did it take the team that passes more than any other this long
to develop an "NFL Caliber" receiver? Also, you failed to mention that he's a number 1 WR. Wanna know why?....because he aint.

"Curtis is a solid #2-ish WR with some speed and ability after the catch."

I'm sure other teams are shaking in their boots at the thought of Kevin Curtis.

"Baskett and Avant are two apparently solid young possession targets with big bodies."

c'mon man....you sound like Spadaro

"The offensive line is one of the best and deepest in the game."

They'd better be with an offense that throws too much.

"The TE is a good player. Not Gates, but not slop either."

no question

"They fixed the gameplan last year after he went out and they said they will stick with it."

I wouldn't say they fixed the gameplan last year. They altered it because they and nobody knew how good Garcia was going to do in Mcnabb's absence. And since when did it become automatic to believe what they say?

What else can they "do" for him at this point?

At this point.....nada, it's too late for this season. They had their chance to make big moves and sat on their hands while other teams who have a history of winning went out and made their teams CLEARLY better. (San Fran, New England, Indianapolis, etc.) Now the star QB who no-one thought leaving in the next few season's could be a possibility of discussion....well, it's now a discussion. A discussion his well documented fragile ego can't handle. And this is good for Eagles fans?

nope...aint buyin it.

If McNabb's ego is that fragile (I am not convinced it is but the media sure wants us to think that), why should the team stick with him anyway?

Fragile egos don't win SB's
