I read some analysts comments at some website comparing Kolb to Andre Ware and David Klingler. (mostly because they all put up great numbers at that NCAA powerhouse "Houston") He is fourth in Divison 1A passing yardage history behind Timmy Chang, Ty Detmer, and Phillip Rivers. He is great at holding onto the ball, despite being sacked 33 times last season. He is durable, and has only missed a short period of time to catch his breath after a late hit...or something.

I'm trying to stay positive, but none of this is screaming "special" to me yet.

I think the Eagles just likes to shock us. They want to be able to sy "ha! you didn't see THAT coming."

At least they got a couple extra picks before shocking us.

Ok, I don't get the DE pick. They need depth at DB, and with Wright and Wilson off the board they must really be down on everyone else.

I'm still saying if they wanted one of the top 5 QB's available, Kolb will turn out a bit better than Beck or Stanton, but Abiamiri just doesn't make sense. I'm thinking this guy is a second round version of Jon Harris or McDougle.

An article that may gleam some reason for the QB selection. This was what I was referring to earlier.

Andy's clearly lost his marbles. It was just evidenced when he said he'd like to tak Keyshawn with him to score some touchdowns. Hopefully Dallas won't file the tampering charges.

OK, so I've continually called out Reid for having undersized players at every position except OL and QB, so maybe the DE is supposed to address that? I would feel better if Abiramiri's analysis read somewhere along the lines of "crushing, run-stopping, DE" or something.

The scouting report about the bum from Notre Shame they took said "has trouble standing up against the run."

Looks like he'll have no problem fitting in with the defense. I wish Reid would die in a fire.

and the sportsline adds this nugget to his bio: "Plays with pain, but has a history of patellar tendonitis that warrants further medical review … "

Cool. Another DE with major injury concerns.

I guess it's hard to be ecstatic about drafting talent that is this far down in the draft, and I certainly haven't scouted players like the coaches have, but this draft seems to fly in the face of convention just for the chance that the coaching staff can sit back and state "I told you so" to the world.

How do the Eagles keep 4 QBs on the roster? One of them has to go. So why did they pick up Holcomb if they are going to let him go? And what's the idea behind telling Feeley he has the chance to come in and start when McNabb has an injury if they now think Kolb is the guy to come in and start when McNabb goes down?

They picked up Holcomb because they were afraid the 25 or 35 teams picking ahead of them might take Kolb. OBVIOUSLY. He was THAT coveted.

So after taking a QB with their top pick, and a DE with an injury that "warrants further medical review", what is left for both of the 3rd round picks? How about an undersized RB and another kicker to round it out?!?

As risky as the other two picks seem on the surface, why not make it 3 for 3 and give Michael Bush a look if he is still there at #87 or #90? Even go with any RB that is 6' + and over 220 lbs?

And the Eagles pick Stewart Bradley, OLB from Nebraska next.

According to NFL.com, this guy is pretty good, with somewhere near a 3 page positive write up on him. Apparently his major injuries in HS and college kept him from going higher. (and maybe his 70's porno haircut too)

And I suppose it should be noted that he was the biggest listed OLB in the draft. I guess this seems like a decent pick up for the 3rd round, assuming his knees hold up for a while.

And Tony Hunt closes out the 3rd round for the Eagles. I think this could be their best pick of the day, and I'm happy to see a decent sized RB added via the draft.

And this solidifies the pick:

"If you are looking for a physical chain mover, Hunt is that type." - NFL.com

So far all 4 of the Eagles picks have been among the "biggest" at their position too. Perhaps this will signal the start of moving away from the "all-undersized" teams of the past.

Sell you on Klob? I don't think there are many out there that can actually spin that pick into anything more than it was - a total reach. The guy might have talent, but to pick him that high in a draft (when the Eagles have 2-3 (depending on how healthy McNabb is) decent to great QBs already on the roster) is ludicrous.

Tony Hunt is by far the STANDOUT pick of the day for the Eagles. Everyone that's wondered for years where the old-school NFC East power running game went, your prayers are answered. Here's a guy who will get you your critical short yardage and wear a defense out by pounding on them. At Ohio State (9/23/07) in a losing effort where he was the only bright spot, Hunt mashed the Buckeye defense with 24 carries for 135 yards, his longest run being 34 yards. He added 3 catches for 12 yards. Outback Bowl vs Tennessee? He racked up 31/158 with a long of 24. And here's a beautiful stat for you: ZERO fumbles total for all last season.

Hunt is the blue-collar guy that the Philly fans have wanted for a long time. The only question now is, with this huge O-Line, one great running back (#36) and another one that should be a great complement, obvious questions at the QB position, and a stable of 2nd-tier WRs...can Andy Reid swallow enough of his pride to let the Eagles be a RUNNING team?

I am a draftnick.

Most of you know this.

I follow it 3 rds deep, months out...

This was, to me , the WORST draft from a draftnicks pt of view- I CAN RECALL!

I guess I should be happy about the HUNT pick- at least he isnt frail or a 3rd or 4th rd QB.

I wanna kill myself- stayin sober for THIS?

Shoot me.

Kobb pick makes ZERO sense. I am trying to look at it at every angle:
1.They dont reust Mcnabbs health-Why draft a System QB who will need at least a year to get acclimated ot the system
2.The can build him up and trade him, ALA AJ FEELY-The problem is that AJ FEely. He just signed a multi year deal. This guy wont get on the field, wont be able to build his value(even if he did, ala Schaubb, is the present value of the 35th pick in the draft worth two second round picks in '11?

ABSURD PICK. The guy will not contribute for at least three years. Classic example of the eagles trying to be ARTSY and outsmarting themselves. Should have taken Houston. Awful, Awful, Awful, possiblly the worst pick in recent Eagles history. Tell me how this guy will ever justify being picked the 35th pick.

Fellas - understand and agree - but bear in mind: last year, we all thought the Eagles pulled off the greatest draft of all time when they nabbed Bunkley AND Justice at 14 and 39. How's that turned out? That's how I'm cheering myself up anyways...

That being said I got no f'n clue what to like about Kolb, except for the constant misspelling of his name as "Klob" in this thread.
