I see what you mean, Seth.
Still...
"Initially I thought we gave up more than what we got in return, but I was just speaking with a coworker who's a big longtime Eagle fan and he said in his opinion we got a really good player in Walker. In fact he said he considered him their best D-lineman. So I'm feeling a little better about this trade."
Guess April Fools came early in Buffalo.

Bass, I think YOU'RE their best DL.
How's that?
Means the same as what some dope says in Buffalo who is "A BIG LONGTIME EAGLES FAN" - so he's what, Gerthy and a lifer? Huh?

Call me crazy, but I think "A longtime Eagles fan" knows more about Don Henley than the best player on that DLine.
And you never know how good you have it at home until you go somewhere else. I dare someone to make a "So how will the league bone us next year?" topic.

He DID mention that Walker was smart.

Thanks for the chuckles guys making me happier with each post, I just can't believe that those "fans" are even remotely happy about giving up their back-up QB and starting LB for an average to good DT and a 7th... I mean I've never even heard the new back-up's name before today when I went to see who it was...

On another board, I had to argue to a Buffs fan who thought that the 7th round CONDITIONAL pick was a bonus, and that the Buffs got away with robbery.
Never mind the fact that the Bills should get a MUCH higher pick after losing Clements. The absurdity is so thick I could cut it with a turkey baster.

Aw now this is just sad:
Just heard a clip from a Philthadelphia radio station where they asked Takeo how long it would take him to convince someone to move from Buffalo to Philthadelphia. "The speed of light" was his answer. Way to go Takeo...Hope you impressed your new neighbors with your smart a$$ comment. I wore this guys jersey the last two years to every home game. I feel a litle stupid right now for thinking he was such a high character guy. Even TKO has a little Willis in him!

Spikes' injury concerns are still an issue, but if he plays another 12 games this season (no reason not to think so) at the level he did last year, he'll be worth moving Walker.
1: This frees up space for the younger, more talented DT's to get more playing time.
2: This adds more talent and depth at a limited LB core that habitually gets hurt as the season goes on.
3: It's basically Walker for Spikes, Holcomb for a 7th. Any team willing to part with a #2 QB for a 7th rounder either has a really bad #2 or can't afford to keep him on salery. I'm thinking it's more of the latter.
I like the move, more because it infuses new blood in the system. Spikes is a fighter, and probably feels that this is the only team that he's going to have a shot at to win a ring with. Fie Fo has a few more years in him, and the kids in the defensive backfield can probably gain a lot from Spikes' work ethic and passion for the game.
Worst case situation is Spikes becomes a great mentor for Go Kong! and Gaither. Best case he helps the D improve dramatically against both the run and the pass.

Hold the phone here fellas. I don't see what all this fuss is about. I will ignore the jacka$$ comments from the supposedly "knowledgeable" tools(some not all) here and stick to the facts.
Spikes: We can't keep him on the team as a 6 million dollar ? - period. Not much else to say. When you guys get done talking, that will still be the fact for us. He is a bet we can't cover, and, by his own admission today, he is not the right guy for the job - IN BUFFALO. He is a great Will linebacker and fits the Eagles scheme(zone blitz) nicely. He doesn't fit as well in the cover 2 - his speed was noticeably less this year and that don't fly in cover 2 either. I will trust in your "knowledge" of football to know the difference.
Walker: You had too many DTs and the average age of our DTs pre-walker is 25. We need veteran leadership and he has obviously been to a Super Bowl and the playoffs. The guy got 6 sacks last year which ain't bad for a DT. I haven't heard anyone say that he doesn't penetrate the line of scrimmage well - which is what we really need.
Holcomb vs. a conditional 7th vs. a Gift Certificate to Little Pete's: You guys are seriously kidding yourselves if you think we didn't get the better of you on this one. Marv Levy would probably have traded you breakfast at the Continental and bag of balls for Holcomb - if we do get the pick out of you we will be laughing it up here. He is done, and has been done for years. The only reason any of you think he is good is because you watch ESPN. ESPN hates to be wrong. ESPN was wrong about who would win our so-called QB battle(huge lie that ESPN got suckered into believing). Therefore, they are still bashing JP. I know that at least some of you know what I am talking about. Look I am not saying that he won't get you the nice 3-7 yard pass you guys want in the WC offense. I am saying that in your offense , McNabb can move, Garcia could move. Holcomb=Bledsoe=Statue.
Seriously we were gonna get rid of him and his 1.3 mil anyway, why not get a draft pick(if we can) instead? Our backup is Nall - who has looked good by all accounts. We won't be needing him anyway. Look this whole issue is silly unless we actually get the draft pick.
So, overall you got what you wanted, we got what we wanted. IMO, you are taking a much bigger risk than we are, but you also may get a bigger reward. We can't take the risks you can, and since we are effectively cleaning house anyway, why not do the whole job? It's not like we lost members of a playoff team, or, for that matter, a winning team. Hmmm. Right?
I will take playoff -experienced players who have been on winning teams over guys who can't seem to get there after 7 years any day.

Well said Bills guy. Fact is, trades in the NFL these days are almost never made without some sort of financial impetus - this isn't Madden we're talking about here. So yes, the Eagles are a better team after this trade - but it'll serve the Bills as well down the road.
I'd also recommend caution when hammering these other fanbases - anyone ever look at the jackasses on PE.com? Not saying they rank up there with the worst from Dallas or Extremeskins, but it's close...

If Holcomb is QBing the Eagles in a game that's not 42-7 next year, I'll miss it because I'll be watching hockey because football season will be over before he ever walks onto the field (assuming he won't run onto the field, as BGIP alluded to). I could care less who holds the clipboard.
Like the trade. Don't love it. Unless Spikes plays air guitar after making a fricking tackle 9 yards downfield. Then I hate it.

Excellent post from the Bills fan. Tell me you are from the same site linked here on pg 1 of this thread and I wont believe it.
I agree 100% with your summation of the deal, but as a side note- AJ Feely will be the No.2 QB here, Holcomb I would think is as good as any No.3 in the league. Thats the reason anyone even mentions Holcomb, it spares the Birds blowin a pick on a guy to hold the clipboard, and Kelly would certainly be better in case of emergency, GOD FORBID, than anyone drafted this yr.

As already stated, Holcomb will be the 3rd stringer and a 7th round pick next season is less than nothing.
Here's the thing about this trade:
- Walker isn't a very good football player. He had 3 sacks, 7 tackles, and his only forced fumble against the Cowboys in week 4 or so last year and didn't do a thing the rest of the year. On top of that, he's a flat out liability against the run.
He requested a trade because the Eagles wouldn't give him a raise. They were more than happy to oblige.
He said yesterday he is "grossly underpaid" and is hoping the Bills give him a contract since the Eagles wouldn't.
Walker is a solid #3/#4 DT with some pass rushing skills, but he just hasn't been the same since tearing his pectoral muscle 3 years ago.
The deal is this: Walker was worthless to them and they got Spikes for him...that's all they cared about.
If Spikes plays average ball, it will be a push. If he comes back a little bit from the injury (Like Julian Peterson did in his second year) the Bills look like morons.

The guy got 6 sacks last year which ain't bad for a DT.
Despite what FD pointed out about half of his production coming in one game (a game that went down to the wire, btw), Walker has an overinflated opinion about himself. It came down when Hugh Douglas (a former player, now talk show "host" on WIP (for entertainment purposes only)) tore him a new one for being out of position, a point Walker vehemently denied.
Even if the Bills' scheme is different from what the Birds use, you need a DT to be able to get more than just sacks, and Walker has been pushed around a ton this year, especially by running teams that would pound the ball up the gut against the Eagles.
I didn't know Walker wanted a raise....guess he felt like he was tackling enough guys.....to the ground.
Anyway, smart comments aside, if Walker does good for the Bills, great. You guys made out. But I just think the guy is slightly below average, and the way he was getting blown off the ball was troublesome to watch, especially since you knew it was coming.
