At least I know about the effects of tackling (i.e., the result of which is placing an opposing footballer on the ground)

Maybe they were thinking of a guy like Sim who often tackled himself to the ground, allowing the runner to continue on after a brief delay?

NTF!

I forgot that the Eagles had a TE known for "tackling himself to the ground".

Nice post, Billsguy.

I will say this, personally I'm very skeptical of Spikes for reasons of injury and moreso because of the salary he is earning.

Walker has never really been impressive when I've watched him. A couple of games a season, he seems to elevate his play but disappears for most games.

Clipboarder Holcumb (sp?) is not a big deal nor is the loss of a 7th.

I'm a little surprised at the overall elation at the trade for EITHER team. Having said that, I still think the Birds did a wee bit better if Spikes returns to even 75% of the original version.

Seriously. Reid sheds 7th rounders like Tastykake wrappers.

Clipboarder Holcumb (sp?) is not a big deal nor is the loss of a 7th.

Except, as several people have noted, that having a known 3rd QB will hopefully prevent them from wasting a 5th or 6th round pick on some rookie QB with no chance at being valuable. Better to waste that pick on a safety or LB, I know...

I hope that Bills fan returns to make a few replies - he seemed like a decent fellow.

Anybody else wondering if "Joe Six Pack" on the Bills board is the same JSP who ocassionaly writes about microbrews and such for the Daily News (since he did describe himself as a Lehigh Valley resident)?

Just stopped over there:

"I will miss TKO but it was definately time for him to go. I have a bad feeling though it is going to end badly for him. I look at the Eagles roster & I really think they are a team in decline. I mean he mentions playing with guys like Trottier & Dawkins, not sure how much gas those guys have left in the tank. I really think Mcnabb is on the downside of his career also. Just my opinion but I really think the bills will have a better team next year & have a better chance of making it to the playoffs"

Hey all - I read your posts and it appears - if you are being honest ;) - that I was right. Walker is simply a safe trade for us - we shouldn't expect earth shaking from him anytime, but we should expect decent play. As far as Spikes goes, I "watched every game he played" :) last year. He has lost about 2.5 to 3 steps from his prior speed. Now, the obvious question is: how many steps will he get back this year. Normally an achilles takes 2 years to heal, based on history, so it's entirely possible that he gets some of those steps back. We have been talking about this for literally a year and a half on our board. We all remember Sam Cowhart(pro-bowl LB for us) who had the same injury and after a few years of waiting, hoping, praying, he just never got back to form. It was as big let-down for us and honestly I don't think we want to go through that again, on matter what the upside is.

Yes, I am OCinPhilly from 2 Bills Drive(the message board orignally linked), which is how I found 700 level. We have a saying at TBD and after reading some of the posts here it clearly applies here as well - "it's like being at the Retard Rodeo". There is no doubt that some posters on our board are entirely over-sensitive when it comes to people cracking on the city of Buffalo, but I can see their point if that's all you ever hear from the media. It's annoying - just like ALWAYS hearing that Philly fans are all azzhole, know-nothing guys who just want to get drunk and in a fight at the game. I know that's not the case cause I go to games around here a lot - I love going to Phillies games. I was at game 6 last year when my Sabres brought out the belt and spanked your Flyers,(HA HA!) but people we're extremely cool with me. Couldn't beleive I got in - took the train down there, some guy sold me a ticket for face, 50 ft from the station. I gave him 10 bucks just because.

Anyway - there are retards on every message board, but 2 Bills Drive is clearly one of the best boards in the league. We have fans from a lot of other teams that post there regularly because they can't stand their own team's boards/their boards offer nothing of substance other than we rule/they suck. If you guys look around there you will see some amazing insight, analysis and explanations of just about every aspect of the game. I learn sh!t there all the time. If there is a topic you want to know about - like how the salary cap works - in detail, or the west coast offense - in detail, you will find it at TBD. Don't bother with ESPN insider, just go to TBD since all that content is posted there anyway - plus proper(not ESPN) analysis.

However, we can't control idiots posting "run McGahee out of town because he said there a no good looking women in Buffalo and that's where my sister lives". (incidentally we got rid of him because of: injury issues and not knowing the playbook, not because of baby momma's or Toronto comments) We chide the retards, but pretty much anyone can log in and start a thread. So it is what it is.

There is no doubt that you are getting a class act in Spikes, and we don't want to see him go from that aspect, but, we can't roll the dice on this guy, he just isn't the right player for our new D, and he wanted to go somewhere to play his style of game. He's a great guy and because of that, Marv was willing to accommodate him.

Seems to me "Philly" was the answer Takeo gave when Marv asked... "Where else would you rather be, than right here, right now?"

Good contribution BGP, stop by anytime.
