It's your NFL-standard 27-year, $487M contract.
I hear it's mostly backloaded, though, if that helps.

In case this thread can handle takeo spikes another question, I have a great takeo spikes question.
When the trainers discuss his gameday footwear, do they call it takeo spikes ' spikes or simply takeo's spikes?

Takeo Spikes's contract lasts until the last time we get a stupid newbie question. So keep up the good work, Bethany.
There are two kinds of contracts. Contracts that end next year and contracts that don't.

from gcobb's website
apparently he's watched spikes quite a bit, and having been a former LB himself, G thinks the eagles would be crazy not to play him at the WILL, as thats where the playmaking LB usually plays. he loves daniels for the SAM, says he has the body and speed to play the TE...thinks gaither and trott should split the middle this yr with gaither taking over in '08, and gocong should be the joker/ trent cole type DE who can rush the passer or sometimes drop into zone blitz coverage.
just a fwiw

Does any other team in the league utilize "the Joker" position?
I'm beginning to believe that "Joker" is just another way of saying "undersized defensive lineman with a high motor and no other place on the roster."
I like the idea of Spikes at WILL and Trotter and Gaither splitting time at Middle (with Gaither progressively winning more time there). I'm not really impressed with anyone they have on roster right now at SAM. Physically Tank should be the front-runner there, but he is awfully inexperienced.

"Joker" isn't even a position in this defense. They use it about 2 snaps per game (most of the time) and Kearse is the one who plays it best. The only point of it is moving around a guy like Kearse so the offense can't predetermine the protection and double him.
This whole defense has really started pissing me off over the last couple years. I remember when QBs looked confused while the Eagles were moving all around and getting men coming free on blitzes, but for the most part, the league has the Eagles D figured out.
The Birds keep dumping big money and high draft picks on the D and it continues to make a fool of itself.
Looks like Johnson is playing "The Joker" lately.

"Joker" is appropriately named, since the Birds are gambling that whoever they put in there can get the job done.
Even when they used Kearse in that role, he was physically gifted enough to be able to drop back into coverage when needed. These guys? Not so much.
Still, I like GCobb's outlook, and is there a better person to replace Trot (at least immediately) than Gaither?

I will apparently always have to wonder how effective Johnson's schemes could be if the DL adopted the OL strategy of having mean, large players that could at least hold their ground. Then the Eagles could use the crazy blitzes without having to worry about them being blown up 5 yards past the LOS because the 270 lb tweener DT was knocked on his arse as soon as the ball was snapped...or something.

I always wondered the same thing. Why do we lead the league in smallish DTs? They passed on their opportunity to pick up Grady Jackson a few years back. I would just like to see some 315 lb load in the middle that keeps the O-line from getting into the second level.

It's because Reid was in Green Bay during the Gilber Brown era. Gilbert always took all the doughnuts and pork rinds and that really pissed off Reid. There's a whole section on it in the binder he put together for if he ever became a head coach.
