Question from PE.com today
Sean Considine Has Added 20 Pounds Of Muscle, That Means ...?
a) He'll Be The Starter At SS
b) Nothing, Quintin Mikell will challenge him
c) The Eagles Will Address SS In The Draft
d) He's The Future At Free Safety
e) I Need To See His Speed First
f) Other

OK so they have him listed at 212 on the roster does that mean he is now 232??? if so is he now going to be a tweener LB-DB. Hopefully he spent the offseason working out with Dawk and just built some mass, because if he hasn't lost any speed and put on that much muscle then I'll be very happy with him back there with Dawk...

That should be:

f) He violated the league's banned substance policy.

How the hell do you add 20 pounds of muscle in 3 months?

EDIT: Nice one, Johnson.

But seriously, I love it when reports come out that so-and-so has gained X pounds of muscle, as if no fat comes along with that. Just say he gained X pounds and got stronger, don't make it look like it's pure muscle.

Spuds is All over this...

He SWEARS it's 20 lbs. and he SWEARS it's all muscle.

There's no way it's possible, but whatever...

He said he was playing at 190- 195 last year and is currently sitting at 210.

He could weigh 160 or 240, but he's the starting SS next year barring injury.

Once again, thank you F-d for being able to stomach the crap reported on the official site.

Spuds would be all over it....like flies on shit.

Chris McPherson, who is the Spuds understudy, does the Eagles Live on Thursdays during the Off-season.

Like Spuds, he seems like a nice guy who does his thing with a heavy Eagles slant (no harm no foul), but it IS funny to listen to those guys.

Chris is talking to a caller and said "So Spuds asked me if Considine looked bigger and I said no, but it turns out that the weight is pure muscle and is so tightly packed on that you can't even tell it's there with the naked eye"

Kinda sounds like the "I ran so fast you didn't see me" grift.

Cole is on Eagles Live and said he's planning on playing at 255 this year (he played at 265 last year according to the interview).

By all accounts, the size of Considine's bubble is only matched by the sand in his pants and smoothness of his skin.

I don't see why anyone has a problem with the idea that he could put 20lbs on (like Seth said a mix of muscle and fat) If anyone gets paid to play sports then their full time job in the offseason would be to get into better shape for the next season... I know I would take full advantage of the Eagles training facilities and the dietians(sp) I don't think adding that kind of weight would be to hard with the right diet and a heavy workout program... my guess he'll probably add another 5-10 lbs before training camp to be around 215-220 going in and by 2nd 3rd week of pre-season be back to his new playing weight around 210 or so...

read his bio he played RB and LB in high school 1500+ yards and 34 TDs and won the state title...pretty darn good season

Y is it so hard to see it. The guy came in the league at 212. Injured soldier prevented him from lifting ALL last offseason. As a result, he wears down more than normal to his lowest wieght in 4 years (190). Most players lose around 8% from july0to janb. He spends all offseason bulking up, mostly from nutrition. Not to go off on a tangent, but if a guy never pays attention to what he eats and begins to treat it like a science, tge resultscan b dramatic. 20lbs is not a stretch. Its encouraging and i dont doubt the guy has bulked up like crazy.

GUYS-

I realize these cats are pro athletes, and i get that the kid likely lost a lot of normal wt. for him last yr when he was hurt and couldnt lift- so maybe half this new found growth is actually only what he had earlier- but it is absolutely impossible, 100% impossible, without HGH or Roids, to add more the 12, 13 lbs. of lean muscle in a year- and thats only if its the 1st serious yr of training.

Chances are, as an athlete, this aint his 1st time at training, lessin the chances of Spuds' enthusiasm bein warranted.

My point: Spuds is just wrong.
Well intentioned perhaps, but wrong nontheless.

There is no way that SC gained this much wt in 3 mos- EVEN IF HE WERE TO TEST POSITIVE FOR ROIDS OR HGH (the latter I dont know if they do test for btw, ...)

It is possible to pack on 20 pounds in just a few months though, and I'm a testament to that. Of course I'm over the hill, won't eat anything that hasn't soaked in grease for 24 hours, and I'm retarded...

Actually with legal, "safe" supplements, you can bloat up with water weight and gain around 10 lbs. immediately after a prolonged absense from the lifting "lifestyle". While many people will testify that this is muscle gain, it is just the tissue retaining water. I could see this accounting for part of the reported muscle gain.

The other half of the weight was obviously gained through the use of illegal substances and an oversized jersey...

Ok...the pseudo-medical side of things.

Is it possible to gain 20 lbs in 1 year? Of course.....20 lbs of lean muscles? Very difficult unless the guy was eating 200 g protein/day and then some supplements (protein).

Now, one of my buddies who does weight lifting professionally explained to me that he "carb depletes" for 3 days and then "carb loads" for 1 alternating for the 10 days prior to a competition. The result is that water follows glucose and that muscles soak up all the carbs (of course using a regimented training program) and that they "swell". He says he gains around 3-5 lbs just doing that. I'm not saying Considine did that, but he could have. 20 lbs of muscle? Very unlikely without a chemical cocktail to help.

When I was in college, using Creatine over 3 months (1 on, 1 off, 1 on) I gained 15 lbs, and I'm pretty sure almost all of it was muscle. Then again I wasn't in the shape professional athelte is in, at the start or finish.

After about 6 months, I kept and maintained 10 of that for about a year until I wasn't able to maintain my workout cycle due to my job.

I'm just saying it's possible, but only in extreme circumstances that someone can do something like this.

To believe this is was done by the book, we would have to:
1: Believe he's taking an approved substance.
2: Believe he didn't do a lot of heavy weight room stuff.
3: Believe he decided after the season ended (a few months ago) started some massive training.
4: Believe that he's going to maintain this weight into the season.

If you believe all that, I can get you a really good discount on this bridge in Brooklyn.

Bottom line is it just isn't true.

The guy was reportedly "so tired" after the season was over he basically laid down with the shades drawn for a week.

He then puts 20 lbs. of pure muscle on in 7 weeks?

Nope. Not even with roids or HGH, IMO.
