Birds announced their 75th anniversiary plans today.

among those plans is the "excellent" idea that has "absolutely NOTHIN" to do with the public in general's zeal for buyin up all things "IGGLES" around town-

They're goin to wear a diferent alternate jersey this season, not the black ones, no, the Carolina Blue and U of DE gold - with Bluehenesque helmets ta boot.

Akers and The Freak Modeled these atrocities today- have a looksee.

And yes, most teams are- it is the name of the game- but coming off a 'new, alternate, black jersey!' just 2 seasons ago, to throw this, THIS crap at us to 'celebrate' their 75th season?

I dunno KB, just kinda smacks of crap.

My GOD if they wanted to throw the old Jaws/Bergey striped up sleeve, grey pants at us, MAYBE, but colors TOTALLY UNASSOCIATED WITH THE FRANCHISE in the publics mind? Delaware valley or abroad- NOBODY would EVER think of these colors when thinkin 'Philadelphia Eagles'.

All the teams had the alternate, like around the same time. It is the 75th anniversary, so I see why this would come out, too.

BUT, the Cowboys throwback, the lions, the Chargers, the Niners- all the throwbacks I recall, (not many teams have a 75th anni, but I think you meant their celebratory throwbacks) - they all RESEMBLED or were damned close to some incarnation of the present day uni.

It's the 75th anniversary, and this is supposed to look like that uniform. It makes sense to me. I don't like it, it's ugly. But I see why they did it.

If you had to buy one with your tix, I'd see a reason for being pissed.

Watching the phils game tonight, they repeatedly showed the center field flags waving and I'm pretty sure these unis are supposed to resemble the colors of the Philadelphia flag:

I love these uniforms. I wish they would change to these permanently or atleast go back to the Eagles green that Cunningham wore. Or even better, go back to the Montgomery uniforms.

The jerseys that they have now are terrible. They barely look green.

Like I don't see enough pale blue and gold on a daily basis. It looks like a Swedish flag.

These are the original uni's they wore when the franchise started.

The uni and flag are based on the Swedish flag/colors and it has something to do with the Swedish settling in the area about 50 years before William Penn or something like that.

This jersey has been available as a Mitchell and Ness throwback for a few years and is legitimate, so while I'm very, very sure they are trying to make money, they didn't pull a design out of their ass.

I think they look kinda cool and thought the black jersey and mismatched ensemble they wore before looked ridiculous.

Either way, they are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the franchise and this was the jersey/helmet they wore 75 years ago.

What's the point of celebrating a 75th anniversary and paying homage to the past with a jersey from 30 years ago?

Also, I bet they sell a billion of these, too.

As for the Birds being merch whores, thanks for the news flash. I suspected this 5 years ago when I saw the BBQ set with the Eagles logo on it, but now I know for sure.

These things will be promoted out the wazoo, and they'll sell a bunch of them. But they do nothing for me. Well, except the rising urge to go pyro.

Oh and I'm sure we'll see a "50th anniversary NFL Champions" throwup jersey in 2010.
