I know they've won several SB's and Brady is the "face" of an NFL Franchise but I'm sorry I'm just not buting into the annointing them the favorite to go back to the Bowl...
The team is very good and still pretty well coached to say the least but, IMO don't think the coaches are as good as they were when Romeo and the Domer were with the team... I am already sick of the NFL hype machine getting all wet over what the Pats have done this off-season. Brady whines that he needs talent to help them beat Indy, so they go out and sign one of the better WR's on the market(Donte) then they also sign Washington and Welker then on draft day pick up Moss... OK this all looks great but now they have 4 new WR's for Brady to throw to plus at least 3 current WR's (Brown, Gaffney OK stop laughing, and Caldwell) to distribute the ball to... I know Brady has total control of the team and that the new guys will all tow the line and put on a happy face but the team is not invincible they still have issues just like every other team. I know Stalworth is a good WR's and believe Moss might be able to keep his mouth in check through training camp and into the season for a few games. I am not convinced, not by a long shot that The genius or Brady will be able to hold this team together if/when they hit a rough patch.
Moss is still Moss, and his self centered persona(sp) will seep out, the team seems happy as hell right now but it was less than a month ago Samuel was demanding to be traded. You think he'll be all happy now just because the team got Brady his weapons but they haven't stepped up to pay him his money he feels he's worth?!?
I guess part of the reason I am annoyed is because they've won the bowl and we haven't but I am really curious to see if they can get this team to gel like the teams from the first half of the decade. I for one am doubting the ability of the team being able to police itself and keep all these new guys in line:
--TE Kyle Brady: UFA Jaguars; $5.3M/2 yrs, $2M SB.
--CB Eddie Jackson: Not tendered as RFA by Dolphins; terms unknown).
--CB Tory James: UFA Bengals; $1.3M/1 yr.
--RB Sammy Morris: UFA Dolphins; $7M/4 yrs, $1.5M SB; $750,000 RB 08-09.
--WR Randy Moss (traded Raiders).
--WR Donte' Stallworth: UFA Eagles; $33M/6 yrs, $1M SB.
--LB Adalius Thomas: UFA Ravens; $35M/5 yrs, $12M SB/$8M OB 2008; 2007 cap: $3.4M.
--WR Kelley Washington: UFA Bengals; $22M/5 yrs, $300,000 SB.
--WR/KR Wes Welker (trade Dolphins; new contract $18.1M/5 yrs, $9M guaranteed).
I know Brian the Brain is a genius and nobody is allowed to question anything he does, (he has won 3 rings) but there is a thing as changing the team to much to fast. I guess only time will tell, but I'm just curious if anyone else thinks they might have bitten off more than a mouthful and this may blow up in their faces...

And yet they're still trying to win more. Must be nice to be able to root for a team like that.

Tat, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth reading your post. Are you kidding me?! The Pats are gods compared to our Eagles. Lurie will never live down that gold standard comment as his team struggles to remain an "in the hunt" franchise, meanwhile, you dare second guess a team with actual desire to continue remaining at the top and doing whaterever it takes to add more championship. And you do it just over a day after the Eagles basically sleepwalk through the draft and tell it's fanbase they were already set with their roster for the 2007 season.

I think the first time Moss acts up he's benched. Second time he's released. Hoodie won't take none of his antics and he doesn't have to answer to his owner, unlike Parcells with T.O.

Tat, seriously, pass me some of that Spuds weed you've been smoking. You'd rather the FB approach of "But I feel pretty good about the guys we have coming back." Every one of those guys on your list is a proven player. Time will tell whether the chemistry will work out, but I'd rather be worried about chemistry than lack of personnel to get the job done.
The Eagles play to compete.
The Pats play to win.

Tat, out of all those guys you mentioned, besides Moss, who really had serious issues? And even Moss took a pay cut so that he could play for a championship team.
All those players are proven players and they want to win. One reason why Samuel's somewhere else. And those contracts are pretty safe that if even one of them gets out of line the Pats don't have any long-term effects. They've brilliantly constructed this team with very low risk from the players involved, instead of just getting guys and hoping they pan out on the cheap.
Also, you say their coaches aren't as good, but those same coaches were able to help get them to an AFC title game last year on the road, and they only lost on the last drive of the game. Not too shabby an accomplishment.
Only thing they need now is an accomplished backup.

Am I the only one for whom the following image rushed through my head upon reading Tat's drivel:
I picture him sitting around in his basement, drinking beer and eating polish sausages with his brudder wondering who'd win: Andy Reid versus a hurricane? (Big Red of course, but what if it was Hurricane Reid?)

OK first of all other than saying I am envious of the fact that the Pats have actually won super bowls and the Eagles haven't, how does what I said confirm me the board homer (which is something I've admitted many times)
My point is pretty much straight forward the Pats changed directions in their philosophy of getting quality no name players to fit the system, to one of paying high priced big name free agents. These types of players come with both talent and attitudes to match. They have in the past brought in A name guy here and there (Dillon, Cox etc) but now they are going to bring in 6-7 pretty big FA's and try and get them all to fit the system.
Granted I think if Moss try's his former style of play they would bench and then probably cut him, and don't be fooled by his contract redo, he had to do that for any team to trade for him, his value as a player has dropped off to the point that his contract was way too high... I just am wondering if they've changed too much to fast...
I also didn't say that I prefer Reid style of remaining competitive as opposed to trying to win (the Pats style) although I am happy with the way the Eagles have become consistent winners. As a fan I prefer to see the team I cheer for win more games than they lose, this makes me a homer and I am proud to be one, but remaining consistent isn't a bad thing... and here's my proof, the Colts pure and simple they haven't changed a thing in the last 3-4 years and they won the Super Bowl. Granted they have IMO the best QB in the league (but McNabb isn't far off from that) there is NO comparison between the teams WR's they have great WR's and the birds are OK at best. BUT they kept losing to the Pats, then they had a better game than the Pats and got to and won the SB. so remaining within striking distance to me is better than reaching and failing. It’s my opinion and deep down all of you (except maybe bd and eag) prefer the Eagles are winning rather than being the way they had been throughout most of the team’s history...
bd, I'm glad to keep you entertained with my posts

Again, tat, out of those FAs, which ones (besides Moss) will be a headache? Half of those guys don't strike me as guys who will cause problems. And even then Moss is in the best position in his career -
- Best QB he's played with.
- Best coaching staff, hands down.
- Other talented receivers to take the pressure off him.
- Disciplined teammates.
Not since his rookie year has Moss had so much going for him.
The contract redo? It's so stacked in the Pats' favor that they could probably let him go for sneezing on Belichek. But he'll be a model citizen because there are other players on that team that won't hesitate to correct him if he steps out of line.
I don't see Moss doing in NE what TO did in Philly.

bass you're right moss is the only real problem, I don't think after the commish's crackdown most guys are going to risk crossing him right away so even their choice of Merriwether shouldn't be an issue that was mainly for Moss, the rest of that was mainly for getting all those guys into the fold and keeping them happy, Donte went there expecting to be the big fish in a small pond, granted he'll probably benefit from the extra coverage Moss will get at least at the start of the season. I'm just not sold, that they will be able to keep that team unity I could be wrong, it won't be the first time... I guess I'm the only one that thinks this is going to hurt them more than help.

Best QB he's played with.
while that's far and away true, moss' best attributes were displayed when he played with qb's (randall, dante) who could/would really air it out and let him go deep.
brady's/pat's philosophy is a little different. now that the pats have two recievers with pretty much similar skill sets in moss and stallworth, it will be interesting to see how they all three play together.

I think the sadder commentary here is the Eagles unwillingness to cut any deals. Either Darrell Jackson or Randy Moss could've been had for a 4th round pick, and there was no word of Philly even remotely in the mix. I can't believe we're so set at receivers that adding either one of those two wouldn't have been a net positive.
I realize the pain still left by TO, but at least a Super Bowl appearance was attained. For a 4th round pick, it would seem worth the gamble on Moss, and hardly any gamble on DJ.

To be fair, there was no real reason for the Eagles to get a WR via trade or top of the draft.
They spend $$ on Curtis coming here.
Brown's the #1.
Baskett is their diamond in the rough, proud that he's theirs.
Avant is supposed to do big things.
Duckfoot Choppas is still here for laughs.
Not to mention Bethel Johnson's speed that gets Spuds needing a washcloth.
I think for better or worse, they're ok at the position, or at least to a point where an upgrade would offset the plan they've already got in place.
Plus, they don't really care about WR.

sarge just an FYI, they are far from in the running for the Frugal this year... they signed so many guys to extensions last year and with the FA's they brought in this year they are in an ok to kind of tight cap situation this year at least from what I've heard). Granted next year they are supposed to be right back in the running...
