I just saw this Sheldon quote from yesterday and it cracked me up:

When I saw the quotes from JJ, they didn't appear all that bad. If anything, the title Domo gave the article was the most damning statement there.

JJ called Sheldon today and now Sheldon is backpeddling at about 100 mph, stating he was never upset.

Troy Vincent he is not. I always viewed him as the future leader of this Defense after #20/#54. He really comes off as a serious asshole. Sheldon Brown say Sheldon Brown. The only time I have uttered my own name is when I called comcast.

Honestly, I think this is all a smoke screen. We're all talking about whether or not Sheldon will keep his job and if William James can steal it. I'm sorry, WHAT? We go from needing to draft DBs on the first day to taking a QB and proclaiming to be stacked with potential starters at CB? I think our D (front 7) has greatly improved, but our secondary is exactly the same as last yr minus a good corner in Hood.

i.e. this Sheldon controversy is a buncha BS to make us forget they have done nothing to address our defensive backfield.

hella, that makes a good bit of sense actually, and I agree that the front 7 looks to be improved maybe much better, that being said then IMO they really don't need any help in the secondary. If the DL gets pressure on the QB and the LB's do their job then the DB's should only have to make sure they cover their guys for less time. I think a big part of why they looked so bad last year was the pisspoor Run D, IF and it's a BIG IF, they have fixed the run D with the additions of Reagor, Scott, Spikes and addition by subtraction of Jones then I think the secondary will look a hell of a lot better without changing any personel...

sheldon got burned on several big plays this past year. he didnt seem like the same CB from previous yrs, and seemed a bit heavier than before.

if he wants to insure his playing time...he needs to perform well. that's all.

I heard that interview, and he further justified himself by saying that when they went to the SB in 04, that they had an explosive offense and the defense could dictate. Eskin was trying to point him into saying that the new additions would improve the defense, but he ignored it.

Thanks, Sheldon. Now I know that the key to being a good defense is to let your offense do all the work. So teams like the Ravens and Bears are totally doing it wrong. I see it so clearly now.

And yeah, Seth, I went from "he's an underrated CB, great guy" to "WTF? Crackhead" in about 24 hours.

If my memory serves correctly last year the Offense was f'ing explosive as hell and the Defense couldn't stop anyone, hell they made almost every RB they faced look like Canton material...

Excuse me?? How's Sheldon Brown better than Lito? Granted Lito didnt have a good year in 2005 but if you go to 2 probowls in 3 years and you're not the best corner on the team then the other corner must be a champ bailey or a ty law, not sheldon brown. Brown doesnt have the speed, the interceptions or the probowl titles. He's above average but he's no Lito. Maybe that's why it only took a few words from JJ for those insecurities to break cover.

Have you ever watched Brown play? He didn't have a great year last year, but not many people did on this defense.

If all you're looking at is stats and Madden scores, yeah, Lito's probably better. If you're looking for a guy who can cover, doesn't make tons of high-profile mistakes, and can terrorize a QB, then Brown is your guy.

Brown simply covers better. Why do we see so much of Lito? Simple. Quarterbacks throw against him more. He has more opportunity for INT's on QB's bad throws because the QB throws to whomever Lito is covering. I rarely see Brown except when he's sent upfield on a blitz or tackling the runner. I think that's an indication he's covering his man well.

The front office is cranking up the spin machine because if James stays healthy and plays well ( he was a pro bowler before his back injury ) they'll move Brown to SS.
And sign him for less money that if he was a corner !
