Probably because
a) Both QBs are quite mobile, while Peete was pretty much a statue (that old junk about a QB that runs will never win a SB, even though there's evidence to the contrary); or
b) It's Rodney Peete. C'Mon.

I heard it with Randall all the time, but that was 20 years ago. I think I heard it early on with McNabb when he was more prone to make stupid decisions, but in the last three years, I thought that line of thinking disappeared. If anything, people will say "the Eagles won't win with McNabb," but they're not blaming it on his (supposed) blackness.

Ah...but there is a segment of people who have just found that's the easiest way to get their point across.
Like you said, Randall was 20 years ago and people are more careful about what they say, but I know that sentiment still exists out there among a segment of football/Eagles fans.

You've still got your limited # of chuckleheads who still think that, even if the media's making it seem like there's more, and the media themselves fan the fire (like how they brought up how McNabb and McNair were going to be starting the all-black-QB SB 5 years ago, when most people didn't care, or even how ESPN was saying that a black QB would be in the SB even 3 years ago, when, again, most of the mainstream populous didn't care).
All I'm saying is that there still exists a pocket of nimrods who believe that stereotype. It's not as many as before, and the only colors most people see are green Ws and red Ls, which is why I'm saying those people who still share that misguided thought are so messed up in their beliefs that thinking a black man isn't smart enough to play QB is the least of their problems. And they can have their Bobby Hoy-oing-oing-oing-oing-ings as well.

It is a little ironic that most Eagle fan would like to see McNabb run more(something that has been labeled with black QB's), but he almost makes a point of not running because of that label. I do think that most of you would agree that when McNabb gets a 10-15 yards gain, early in a game by running, the defence over reacts and it open up a lot more options for the Offence.

That is exactly why I think people don't dislike McNabb because of stereotypical blackness, i.e. athletic skills. They want him to effectively be "more black" and run the ball more often rather than pass. It's hard for me to remember, but I seem to think the opposite was true for Randall.
For Peete, they just wanted him to get permanently injured.

for the record on Peete, I meet him down here when he was with the Panthers. He had him come to an opening for one of our retail wireless location to do autographs. He was really nice guy, and what was even better was he brought his really hot wife.

Why wouldn't he have been nice? Did you expect him to attack you and steal your wallet? Use his painted on 5 o'clock shadow on you like a cheese grater?

Randall got a lot of flak for all the running he did (of course, behind that line, I'd do a lot of running, too), because at that point no mobile QB had won a SB, and it was thought that they never would. But both of Randall's season-ending injuries came when he was in the pocket.
Oh great, now I've got memories of Rich Kotite in my head...

Other players we had from the Panthers that year were not nearly as nice as Peete. Mike Minter was prick. Showed up a half hour late and was just acting like a jerk. I understand it may not be his favorite thing, but he agreed to come do a two hour autograph session for $8,000. He still wasn't as bad as Carolina Hurricane Jeff O'neil. It was a four to six o'clock signing, in Raleigh on a Sat. He showed up half smashed and was complaining to anyone who had more than one thing to sign. So, of the ten pro athletes that we ever had come to a store, Peete and Rod Brind'Amour were by far the nicest guys.

It makes you wander how the course of history would have changed if Mark Brunell would have signed with the Eagles instead of Peete.
On another note, has any baseball team ever won the world series with an African-American closer? I know that it's even less relevant than the skin color of a quarterback but if it hasn't happened yet I don't know why people aren't making such a big deal out of it like they are with a black quarterback only winning one Super Bowl.

Why not have McNabb be the Phils' closer, then? Since he throws fast and ends up hitting people's ankles anyway, putting him on a mound would make him deadly.

Yahoo is reporting that Goddell will suspend Vick for the 2007 season, citing 2 sources within the league.
The NFL is saying that no decision has been made yet.

The other 2 co-defendants are making plea deals this week.
This spells D-O-O-M for Ookie.
Don't drop the soap, Ron.

Vick agrees to plead guilty in dogfighting case

RICHMOND, Va. -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick accepted a plea deal Monday to avoid additional federal charges in a dogfighting case and now faces a likely lengthy prison sentence.
"After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick has asked that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding charges pending against him," Billy Martin, one of Vick's attorneys, said in a statement.
"Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter.
The terms of Vick's prison term are not yet known.
According to a story on the Virginian-Pilot's Web site, Vick will enter a guilty plea to the felony conspiracy charge of traveling in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities next Monday morning, said Lawrence Woodward, one of Vick's defense attorneys.
The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
"Mike's accepting full responsibility," Woodward told the newspaper. "He's going to do everything he can personally and professionally to make this situation right."
All three of Vick's co-defendants -- Tony Taylor of Hampton, Quanis Phillips of Atlanta and Purnell Peace of Virginia Beach -- have reached plea deals in the case. Vick had been facing a Nov. 26 trial date.
Vick's last two co-defendants, Phillips and Peace, pleaded guilty Friday and said he bankrolled gambling on dogfights at the quarterback's property in rural Surry County, not far from his hometown of Newport News. One said Vick helped drown or hang dogs that didn't do well.
Phillips and Peace entered plea agreements and agreed to testify against Vick. Taylor struck a similar deal last month.
The gambling allegations alone could trigger a lifetime ban under the NFL's personal conduct policy.
The NFL has barred Vick from the Falcons' training camp but has withheld further action while the league conducts its own investigation.
Peace, Phillips and Taylor pleaded guilty to the same charges facing Vick: conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture.
Their sentencings are set for November and December.

The report I heard on the radio said the feds were going for 18 months or so and Vick's lawyers were targeting less than 1 year.
Either way, he's done.

So you admit you were wrong, which you should have done anyway, save the government lots of time and money by avoiding trial, and you only have to serve 25% (or less) of what your sentence should be. Good behavior and you can cut that time in half and be out on probation.
There's always the CFL.
