From PE.com:

By BOB KENT
The Eagles wasted little timing locking in their draft class, agreeing to contract terms with running back Tony Hunt and linebacker Stewart Bradley. The two third-round picks agreed to four-year deals.

I know what you mean.
If this draft is going to be a success I think these 2 guys and Gaddis may be the keys to it.
If Kolb turns into a franchise QB, obviously he's the big one. If Abiriamiri turns into a great rush end, he could really pay off (still not 100% sure about him...am interested in seeing how quick he is at this level).
However, Bradley could give them a great situation at SAM linebacker and provides extremely valuable insurance in case Gocong doesn't pan out.
Hunt could be the battering ram to Westbrook's lightening and his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield is something I'm sure they'll attempt to utilize.
I just think these 2 guys both have a CHANCE to pay dividends early, depending on how things play out.

I like the hunt and bradly signings a lot. But the kid I'm most interested in seeing this year is Nate Ilaoa. I think he could be like Buckhalter.

When he was drafted, I actually thought he was a Fullback. I'm not saying that they should make him one, but he's listed at 245. If I've got a 245 kid in the backfield, I'd tell him to go out and hit some people. Maybe give him the ball a few times.

I can't get too excited about rookies these days considering the Eagles recent track record with deactivating them... but there are a select few that sneak into the lineup and Hunt, Abiamiri, Gaddis and Ilaoa are the ones from this class I'd like to see do so.
The only downside to Ilaoa is he's as tall as Daddysly. I think the Eagles feel they found a poor man's Maurice Jones Drew with this guy.

I like "Nasti" and hope he makes the team because his highlight reels are impressive and he seems to run with considerably more power than Hunt (even though is the better overall player). His build reminds me of Natrone Means and he seems to have amazing short area quickness.
For whatever reason, Spuds has been down on him...basically calling him fat every opportunity he's had. I hope he shows well in the pre-season and makes this team. If they keep 4 back and cut Moats I'll be satisfied, but his utter retardation with this offense is baffling. I think he's a 1,200 yard rusher...I really do. His confidence might be shot now and he won't get a real shot somewhere else unless he latches on and proves himself in spots for a couple years, but he's a baffling player to me.
With all that said, I think they overdid it with the big backs if that is the roster. The Eagles always seem to do this, but they fall in love with an idea and just take it too far.
When they decided they wanted to get faster at linebacker, they spent the next couple years stockpiling undersized guys. When they decided they were too small, they traded for a bigger backer and drafted 3 bigger backers in 2 years.
When they wanted to get stronger on the O-line, they over-drafted at that position for about 3 years.
When they wanted to get better in coverage at SS, they started drafting free safeties and CBs to convert.
After liking quick backs for a long time, they decided they wanted a "big back". So they draft 2 of them and keep Buck with only one speed guy on their roster.
Why not mix it up a little? Does everything have to be overkill?

BTW, I can't wait to see Jeremy Bloom play. I know he's a "longshot", but according to reports he looks like a different player and looks great as a receiver out there. Gcobb watches all the practices and Bloom is participating in the rookies and selected vets camp. While he calls him a midget in every update, he said he's as quick and fast as lightening, is catching the ball with his hands extremely well, and the Eagles are making an effort to get him the ball in space so he can use his ability to make people miss and get YAC.
I'm not expecting him to be a star, but if he can be Wes Welker, that would be a very nice addition.

Whatever happens in camp and/or the season won’t ever change the minds of most of you. Hell I wouldn’t put it past some on here that even if the Eagle’s won the superbowl to bitch about something they perceived the team did wrong. Even the ones, who claim not to be darksiders, are always riding someone or something about the team and the organization. Sometimes I wonder why some of you actually claim to be fans, with how much you bitch about things which in reality you have nothing to do with besides buying a ticket or the occasional jersey or hat.

Effin' A my brutha!
If they do win the Bowl they better do it by a landslide and I require a 50/50 run-pass ratio and they better be wearing their midnight green jerseys and Andy better not squander timeouts on failed challenges!
I'm not hard to please.

Exactly. If they win a Super Bowl without our recommended changes and solutions, they'll just take that as validation of their flawed approach.

Safety C.J. Gaddis and the Eagles agreed to terms on a four-year deal Friday. The team's fifth-round pick out of Clemson - the 159th overall - is the third draft pick in the last two days to agree on a deal joining linebacker Stewart Bradley and running back Tony Hunt ...

"Sometimes I wonder why some of you actually claim to be fans, with how much you bitch about things "
while i'm not gonna say this speaks for most fans, i'm sure many feel the same way.
for 20 weeks a year, if you include the playoffs, the success and failures of this team can make my day to day life either thrilling, mundane or an absolute hell. and that doesnt even count the ups and downs of free agency, the time around the draft, training camp or preseason.
yes, even the more blind of us loyalists complain occasionally, some more than others. but we complain because it usually takes a near perfect football team and season to win a super bowl. and the eagles like most teams, have many holes to fill, coaching to improve, players to upgrade, starters who can perform better, reserves who need to step-up more, a front office that fills the needs, an owner who spends the money, a city to be behind them, and the list goes on and on.
so believe me, there's always something to complain about, and there always will be. and yes, even on a cold night in early february, if we are ever lucky enough to live out a real life fantasy, and see a rotund red headed man hoist a coveted shiny object over his head, we'll still complain about something.
but...with a big smile.

I don't have a problem with what they did with Hunt and Ilaoa. The way that I see it is that they identified a need and moved with conviction to address it. There is a lot of risk in the draft. You don't really know if a guy will make it, so they draft 2 in the same year to increase the certainty that the need will be addressed to a minimum level of satisfaction with this particular draft. Hunt and Ilaoa will push each other; this makes it much more likely that at least one of them will perform to level you need him to perform. If you draft only one, he can drag ass and you are in a bind. If he gets hurt, you are in a bind. This way, they have a 7th rounder who should be very hungry to push the guy with the better pedigree.
This approach makes a lot of sense to me. Especially if you are cynical and think that the FB can't evaluate talent.
You lumped their approach to the LBs into this same philosophy. I don't think that this is valid. Flip-flopping between wanting fast LBs and big LBs is a different issue. I agree that this is stupid.
Oh, and Uber, your copyright is out of date.

from gcobb's website
"Perhaps the most interesting thing about Bradley's NFL career to date is that he was four picks away from joining the New England Patriots last month. According to the Boston Globe, the Patriots planned to take Bradley with the 91st overall selection in the third round but instead traded that pick to Oakland after the Eagles selected Bradley with the 87th overall pick."

This is the second time I've heard someone justify a 2007 Eagles draft choice by stating that the Patriots also wanted that player. Who fricking cares that the Pats also wanted the player? Seriously. First Kolb was supposedly ranked by Belichick as the #2 QB on the board, now we gotta hear a similar thing about this guy too? Is this somehow supposed to make the general idiocy feel better about a particular pick that they likely have never heard anything about prior to draft day? So we took a guy that NE wanted...AND??? (Not attacking you EEB, rather GCobb).

not trying to fan the flames but i also heard Ray Didinger say a week or two ago that he like Bradley and thought he was one of the better "true strong side LB's in the draft this yr, " and that not too many guys come along who have played the SAM throughout college, and do it well.

When trotter and spikes leave the scene in a couple of yrs., I think you'll see :
gaither - wlb
bradley - mlb
gocong - slb
a very young group of big fast athletic players who certainly will give johnson more options in his schemes .
I also have no problem with drafting two big backs , they both can do the job behind that o-line .
I would however like to see moats take over the k o return duties as a way of keeping him on the team .
Those last two games of the year , two yrs. ago , he showed he could run the ball.
That last game against the gaints he ran for 120+ yds., and they needed that game to go to the play-offs .
he ran tough inside on them .
It's nuts ...we're not even talkin' about their first two picks .

"a very young group of big fast athletic players who certainly will give johnson more options in his schemes"
But how much longer is Johnson going to be here? He's 107 years old now and despite still being pretty sharp as a blitz schemer, I think his vision of a fast light front 7 is won't work, as teams focus on more of a power running game.
I'm not saying the game has passed him by, I'm saying his scheme doesn't work as well as before. Like the "46". Can he change after doing it his way for so long?
