As per Philly.com;
"Eagles running back Brian Westbrook missed practice today for "personal reasons," and coach Andy Reid said Westbrook wouldn't be back to training camp."
WHAT!?!?!?!?!

Andy Reid said he wasn't sure if Westbrook would be back.

this injury thing is seriously the most frustrating part of being a football fan.
every year, half the roster is dinged up before the first pre-season game.

Correct...Westbrook isn;t hurt and there is no problem.
HOWEVER, LJ has re-aggravated his Sports Hernia.
Reid is going to have a LOT of questions to answer on this one. He was supposedly weeks ahead of schedule and they even had him in full contact drills...now he's probably out for a significant amount of time and he may not be right at all this year.

but the good news is that LJ just lost his leverage on next year's free agent market.
Banner must be smelling blood...

Signing someone for more than the vet minimum...that's a joke right?
Isn't it curious that we're already hearing how high FB is on the rookie TE. The writing is all over the f*ing walls.

probably also about time that Eagles fans thank TO for forcing the front office to keep Westbrook. If it wasn't for that bastard, Westbrook would be running for 2100 all purpose yards clad in Giant blue.

Westbrook's personal issue is reportedly a funeral.
Also, in the "great news" department, Andrews is now in a boot and walking on crutches due to his right ankle injury.

TO had nothing to do with that. Westbrook's signing happened after TO and the front office were having problems.

I think that's what he was saying. The front office wanted to create positive news, reinforce that they weren't cheap, and make sure they didn't lose T.O. and Westbrook in the same year.

That's exactly my point. You think these are unrelated? Seriously? The front office needed to do something to save some face with the fanbase and lockerroom.

I think it may have helped. I think Moats looking like an idiot helped.
But I thought you meant TO forcing in a more direct manner.

I think b/c everyone turned quickly on TO, the front office really didn't have to worry about the fan base's reaction. I remember everyone thinking it was pretty ridiculous that TO wanted a new contract.

And if you think the front office has ever made a move based on what the fan base thinks, I don't think you've been watching during this regime.
Hunt sprained an ankle today as well.
Spuds is already in "WHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT?!?!?" mode, as he hung up on a caller asking about injuries.

Westbrook wasn't about the fans...it was about the team.
There's a perception in the locker room that the Eagles are cheap (real or not real) and when T.O. was making his case to the players a lot of them bought into it. The Eagles stuck to their guns, but they had an example of one guy kicking and screaming for money and another guy quietly doing everything he could for the team in a contract year (making no money). I have no doubt at all that part of their motivation for throwing a few more million at Westbrook to sign him was to help heal the locker room and show the players that they were "fair" but a business. It was also positive reinforcement for anyone in the future...do what Westbrook does and you get paid.

I also don't think they do anything to appease players on the roster, either. But I see your point. I just don't think it was a reactionary move.

there's no question (in my mind), KB, that the Eagles are run like a business (in the literal sense of the word). But, like any other businessman worth his salt, the Eagles surely understand that sometimes it takes money to make money. Short-term loss can yield a much larger long-term gain. This is what I think went on.

I just don't see any evidence of any of that taking place. They handled the signing like most other signings: waiting until the deadline in November for the contract to count against that year's cap.
The players see them resign their own guys every year to big contracts. I don't see why the team would have anything to prove.
And, even if they did have something to prove, they're too damn stubborn to do it.

At 1st, I thought that the Westbrook singing was akin to the Flyers signing LeClair to big $$$ after the nightmare Lindros divorce (dump polarizing, albeit talented, player and keep fan favorite at inflated price). Then it dawned on me that the next time this FO gives a rat's ass what we think will be the 1st time.

However, Jeffrey Lurie owns an NFL team in a city that is obsessed with football. It doesn't matter how much he pisses off the current fanbase. If we all stop buying tickets, there are 100,000+ other idiots more than willing to take our place. This team is going to continue to make money for a long, long time, regardless of what the front office does.
