I also don't think they do anything to appease players on the roster, either. But I see your point. I just don't think it was a reactionary move.

I don't think they do either, but I do think it was a situation where they wanted to re-sign him, Westbrook wanted to stay, and the Eagles thought it would be worth it to move off their price (which is typically set in stone) for all the other benefits they were going to rep from it.

They liked him as a player, they liked him in the offense, and they liked him in the locker room so I think they justified spending a little more than they thought he was worth at that time for the whole package.

I believe they also signed Akers around the same time they signed Westy.

I think you're wrong about then not caring about their fanbase. I don't believe they let the uninformed whims of the locals influence their decision making process, but to say they can neglect their fans because more will just fill the void is plain foolish (in my opinion).

I think they're very concerned with how they appear to the fans. Otherwise they'd scrap the whole PR office and post-practice interviews, weekly radio shows, etc. What other purpose do they serve?

They're pretty much league-mandated, right?

Besides, if they cared about the fans, they wouldn't have made half the moves they have (despite them being right). Look at the outrage over Hugh, Duce, Trotter, McNabb, etc.

But, they know they're right, so they don't give a crap what some d-bag in a wifebeater thinks.

Sorry, I meant post-practice interviews.

I didn't say they had to write off their fans. I said they didn't make any moves based on the popularity with the fan base.

I don't believe anything I mentioned is league mandated. Is hosting autograph sessions an edict from the league? Also, why don't they charge (relatively) outrageous sums for preseason practices, ala the Redskins?

It's a business; they understand this completely.

(also, I said I don't think they let the whims of the fanbase inform their decisions; I doubt they listen to WIP, for example.)

Some of the injuries have been mentioned already but they're adding up.

But according to Reid its no big deal.

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20070809_Eagles_injuries_starting_to_add_up.html

There was no Brian Dawkins, Brian Westbrook, Jeremiah Trotter, L.J. Smith, Shawn Andrews, Lito Sheppard or William Thomas at practice yesterday.
And that was just the Eagles' starters.

If you go down the depth chart, there was no Correll Buckhalter, Bill Sampy, Ian Scott, Montae Reagor or Dustin Fox, either.

That's one crowded trainer's room the Eagles have here at Lehigh University - but no cause for concern, at least according to head coach Andy Reid, who always seems to find his rose-colored spectacles before reading down his list of injuries.

"It's not a problem," Reid said. "This is the way it happens every year, so we're fine here."

There are 31 days until the season opener in Green Bay. There is no need to panic, but the lingering absence of several Eagles is at least some cause for mild concern.

Heard Runyan got carted off today along with Andrews backup.

Andrews ankle is in a boot and he is out indefinitely.

I think "indefinitely" means "no one knows for sure", according to Reid:

Reid also gave an update on guard Shawn Andrews, who returned to Lehigh yesterday after traveling to Philadelphia to see a specialist Wednesday about his sprained right ankle. Andrews is on crutches and his right foot is in a walking boot.

Still, Reid was optimistic when asked about Andrews' status.

"I feel a little bit better today. He has gotten better over the last couple days," Reid said.

"He can do cardio work on the bike, anything to take the pressure off his leg."

Reid also gave no timetable for Andrews' return.

Runyan and Young were carted off b/c the training room is so far away from the facility, according to WIP. Runyan just had some back spasms.

Bill Sampy, Ian Scott, Montae Reagor or Dustin Fox

Who?

Bill Sampy: 2nd year practice squad / Possible PR / WR has good speed and hands but on the smallish side

Ian Scott(DRT): Bunkley's backup which means he will probably start

Montae Reagor (DLT): Patterson's backup

Dustin Fox (LCB): 3rd on the depth chart behind Lito and James
