A few years back, I heard a story Ray Didinger told about Walsh and some of his Assistants.
Every team in the NFL spends umpteen hours a week formulating the game plan for the upcoming opponent. Walsh didn't think that was good enough.
Each week he had staffers come up with secondary and even tertiary game plans if the first one tanked. It almost never did, but Walsh wanted the insurance (and assurance) that his team was prepared if things went wrong.
How many Coaches do you think do that? That could be why his teams always looked like they knew what they were doing.

Yes that could expalin the Super Bowl wins.
But the teams he coached weren't half bad either.

Why hasn't this concept carried over into Andy Reid's coaching philosophy?

You could always ask Brit and Garrett how things are lost in translation from the older generation....

Reid employs the same philosophy regarding gameplans. Here's a sample:
Gameplan 1: Throw the ball 80% of the time.
Gameplan 2: If throwing the ball 80% of the time is failing, attempt to tweak the ratio to 85%.
Gameplan 3: If 85% fails, attempt an onside kick and go to 90%, using screens and swing passes as an "extension" of the running game.
Gameplan 4: If plans 1 through 3 fail, find a way to get Reno Mahe on the field, give Moats the stink eye, and start running the ball in the 4th quarter, without a hurry up or any sense or urgency whatsoever.
Jim Johnson also employs a similar strategy:
Gameplan 1: Insert 11 fastballs and tell them to get upfield.
Gameplan 2: Now getting gashed for 7 yards per carry, ask the fastballs to engage with the offensive lineman twice their size and hold the point of attack.
Gameplan 3: With opponent now averaging 11 yards per carry, rotate the fastballs more feverishly and bring a 190 safety into the box to stop the bleeding.
Gameplan 4: Cart Considine off the field, clean up the cleat marks on his forehead, and tell Trotter to "guess harder".
Post Game: Declare that the reason the team gave up 600 rushing yards and 89 first downs was because people were out of position on a couple snaps.
