Anybody going to watch this?

Might take a look to see how Kolb is doing or to watch Johnson vs Rocca.

Hopefully nobody gets hurt.

I'll be watching the whole game for certain. You can't really learn much from the pre-season in terms of wins, losses, or even total performance, but you can see glimpses of what might be coming.

Guys like Bunkley, Gocong, Curtis and Spikes are going to see their first action as Eagles starters.

The future of the O-line is partly based on Max Jean Gilles and Winston Justice who may both be called upon to start next year. I'll definitely be watching those guys.

Bloom will be playing a live football game for the first time in 5 or 6 years (this should be interesting as he's supposedly got dead legs right now).

Rocca and Dirk will be punting for a job in the preseason.

Kevin Kolb will throw his first passes as an Eagle and guys who may have to contribute as rookies (Hunt and Abiamiri specifically) will be showing the fans glimpses of what they may be able to do.

There's also the battle for the bottom of the roster. Low draft picks like CJ Gaddis and Barksdale will either be on the team or practice squad based on how they play in the preseason. Undrafted rooks like Jeremy Clark (DT), Marcus Pacshal (S), Nick Graham (CB), and Akeem Jordan (LB) will all be playing for spots on the active roster or practice squad. If history tells us anything, a couple of those guys will make the team in favor of the seemingly more probably choice and be called on for special teams or spot duty. There could be another Rod Hood, Al Harris, Clinton Hart, Sam Rayburn, Greg Lewis, Jamal Jackson, etc., etc. etc. in this bunch that doesn't become a superstar but fills a key role in this season or a season to come.

We also get to see (I think) Jevon Kearse and how he appears to be coming off the injury.

The last thing is trade bait. Will Moats, McDougle, or Holcumbe perform well enough to potentially get the Eagles a couple late round picks for next year?

I think there is just a lot to keep an eye on this year and I'm really excited to see who stands out (good or bad).

Holcumbe?

I am not even going to ask.

I can't imagine they'll be able to get anything for him, but one of the rumors last week was both the Falcons and Vikes were interested in Holcomb. I imagine it would be a 6th or 7th round pick (if anything), but that was the rumor.

The other position that I want to see is TE. I would like to see how the rookie Brent Celek is going to do. Reid had started with his name, when talking about guys in camp whom exceeded his expectations.

I don;t know the answer for certain, but both Rocca and Dirk have been holding in practice so I'm assuming they'll be alternating tonight.

Well I had a whole schpeil penned and ready to post when I come to find not only has a thread already been created (a good thing) but that FD has almost in order, mentioned everything in my now redundant and useless post, that I had to say.
Im watchin the entire thing, I cant recall a preseason as potentially interesting as this one, with as many players im curious to see play and battle for positions etc. Thanks for helpin me come in under the 50,000 word post FD, after Ive deleted most of what you already nailed. What remains of that and 2 replies to other posts:

Im Rooting for Tank Daniels over McCoy as the b/up OLB, if it comes to that, so I guess I'll look for each to stand out on Special Teams- as that MAY be the deciding factor if they're gonna keep just 1 of those 2 guys.

Holcomb will absolutely fetch a 6th rounder Im thinking, and if there's a couple teams wanting the guy, MAYBE a 5th?

Both guys (Sav/Dirk) will hold tonite for Akers. If 1 of them has the misfortune of bein out there if Akers misses an attempt, whether its their doing or not, it will (IMO) severely impact that cat's chances of makin the team.
I think they WANT it to be Sav who is the guy, and they're hopin he holds up under a real block attempt tonite.

Everything I keep reading about Rocca makes it seem as though he should make this team. The knock on him is consistency, but when the guy is hitting 60-70 yard punts with massive hang time, his shanks are only going 40 yards. That sounds okay to me.

Of course, game time pressure and his ability to place punts in the 20 will be major factors, but I hope they're willing to take a risk with this guy.

I just don't see how I can bring myself to watch this game without my boy Donnie out there.

It will be hard for me to root, root, root for the home team with my son resting comfortably on the bench.

This team is nothing without my son. When will people finally start realizing it?

If I watch that white boy Kevin Kolb play in the 2nd half I will start to think evil thoughts of injury on him so it is better for me not to watch at all.

God Bless

Love to All

A quick thank you to the Eagles for actually giving the satellite coordinates to bring to a sports bar to watch. I was not looking forward to staying up for a midnight replay on the NFL network.

IMS, can you shed some light on this?

Is this something that can be done at any place that has a DirectTV hookup or do they different type of satellite?

sorry talon, just got back to my computer

If you look on the front page of the main site, on the right they have info about tonights game under "GAME CENTER"
Give the time, tv station, sirus channel and then it give
"Satellite: Gal 26 (IA-6)/C11 93 W Transponder C11"

SO I called my local sports bar(who has multiple satellites(not just direct tv, like i have at home) and then can type in the coordinates to a reciver and pick up the game. Most big sports bar have this capability. I would call aroind and ask if they would put the game on if you gave them the coordinates. Hope is help, let me know

Thanks, IMS.

None of the places I frequent have more than Direct TV, and I'm guessing the sheer size alone would make it difficult to find a bar in NYC with large satellites. Maybe somewhere in Eastern Queens or Jersey might have one.

I'll just wait to tape the midnight replay and rely upon f-dallas' play-by-play postgame analysis.

Better v Run than pass in the 1st qtr.

Still gettin burned by the TEs- Heap goes 2 for 36 yds in the 1st.

Offense started slow IMO. Feely went 4 of 5 for 50 some odd yds to 5 diferent WRs.

Is that a highlight? I dunno.

just to add...
Bloom has a couple nice returns. The last one for 27yds. Bunkley showed up and Akers
missed an easy 43yarder because of a low snap.
Now lets see what Kolb does.

Holcomb looks like a tackling dummy.

Hunt looks as good as I hoped. Some very nice running inside and a prollem in camp early on- the hands- seems to be corrected as he has a couple catches so far. He is running with the 2's and apparently has surpassed Buck on the depth chart, if this is any indicator.

I should note that while Im rooting for Sav to get the Punting gig, Dirk layed down a near perfect punt on the Eagles' first drive.

Abiamiri is down and staying down, grabbin his arm/wrist.

Ugh. Hope its nuttin too bad, was liking what ive been readin about him outta camp. The strongest DE at the point of attack and definately their best DE vs the run apparently.

Nice to see some chatter on a preseason game.

Bloom looking very nice so far, which is comforting.

Running game seems terrible so far, and apparently thats all they have practiced.

AJ looked good, but the first team D looked lost in passing situations on that first drive, especially Will James on the 3rd downs (way too much cushion).

And on the missed field goal, it was a low snap, but not a great hold either.

nice R.A.C. by Celek!
Bloom had another nice return, but I thought
I saw him favor the left leg on the sideline. Hope its not a hammy again.

Did not notice him limping..hmmmm.

Celek is going to be good (in my uninformed opinion).

I like the way he runs after the catch- kinda shifty but doesnt shy away from lowerin the shoulder and continuing on (in that case).

Wanna see more of him tonite.

On the Running game lookin poor- on the whole, agreed. But I think Hunt individually has run hard and Im pleased with him so far.

Celek has played very well so far.

Didnt see that Bloom was favoring anything on the sideline, but I may have missed it, if so I definitely hope that its not the hammy.

Also, Seth, I know you like Tank, but I dont think McCoy is a terrible thing at backup and on special teams, just my own opnion, but I actually thought he did well in the first few games last year before getting dinged up. Especially on 3rd down and smelling out screen plays.

No doubt that Hunt was running hard, I think it has more to do with the Ravens playing downhill football, and the eagles probably could have gotten a couple of big plays by running misdirection.

Not that Rex Ryan was bringing the house, but rarely saw any of the 4 backers sitting a reading a play, they were always looking run first, just my observation.

Also nice to see Abiamiri out there, I dont want an injury and have another year of McDougal.
