Not able to see the game. Just reading. But with the Ravens up so many points, and reading that Takeo Spikes missed a tackle, this doesn't seem like the shutdown defense I had hoped for. Dawkins out, but does that make that big difference?

Broadcast team is horrible.
I was wonderin the same thing on the third and forever after the nice catch an run by Hunt.
Ive heard Ike Reese say, regarding someone's professionalism this evenning - "He is the consonant pro".
Really, not a "VOWEL PRO? A CONSONANT ONE?" THANKS!
Also, meaning to say something regardin a guys elusiveness- "He has great elucidity".

Terrible holding call missed on that big ravens drive. Actually they didnt call anything with the first teamers on the field. Almos like let them play and get through as much as possible to get the starters out.
Rocca has a big leg, and just smiled off the helmet to helmet hit.

Think Kolb wants to see Collie, and all the other ball droppin jobbers cut ASAP?
I would.
How is it Hunts official line is 5 rushes, ZERO yds, when I SAW him gainin yds?
I know 2 carries were wiped out by penalties, but it seems like MORE musta been wiped out.
Hmmm. Blame that on the PBP guy. Brutal. Ike actually graded out at a solid "C" for me in his 1st game, and I think I'd take him over Mike Quick, now.

Things I noticed (Not to be confused with Fat Assed Kings "Things I think I think)=
Dirk Johnson looks like he's conceeded the Puntin gig in Philly. Downright pissy/sullen when Rocca came out for his last punt.
Bradley gettin reps at MLB in the 4th, seems OK, tad overaggressive, but OK. Nice versatility.
McNabb clownin around when Moats is bein put in the air cast, b4 goin over and huggin his head, offerin words of encouragement. Blog around that, Momma.
Is it me or is FB showin more emotion this yr- both in practice (Called out 54 this wk with a "Do I need to get Gaither back in there?!" in front of the media etc) and tonite on the sideline tonite. Change in mentality or does he feel the same sense of urgency as No. 5 this yr?
5 sacks yielded? I know the Ravens blitz, but you didnt EXPECT THAT? I am not suggesting you actually GAMEPLAN for a preseason opener opponent, but you're risking getting either AJ or Kolb killed.
Winston Justice did NOT impress. I watched this cat and his feet seem SLLLLLLOW. Please play better Friday nite cos I was thrilled with your selection 2 yrs ago.
GoCong didnt get anywhere NEAR the reps I was lead to beleive he'd get.
When asked about it in the postgame PC, (Thanks to Les Bowen - Hockey guy - for askin the question i was wantin an answer to, "Why the short leash on Gocong when we were all lead to think he'd see extended time?") Reid said somethin to the effect of "I didnt watch him much, I was tryin to right the offense, but from what i saw, he "DID A HALFWAY DECENT JOB". Ugh. Sounds like there's some concern there.
Grahm the DB played well IMO, as far as from a physical standpoint. He laid some licks tonite. Unsure his chances of stickin, but maybe a practice squad guy.
Davis as a FB utterly blows. Im better. No really, I am. Honest.
Bye bye.
I am diggin what Celek has to offer methinks.
Ditto, on Hunt.
I was lookin for more outta Gaddis, I think he has a future and really like the size/speed thing, but word is he's havin trouble adjustin to the pro game. I saw nothin tonite to reverse this opinion I have via word of mouth.
Akers looks to be pickin up where he left off last yr- not the 'old' Akers.
The hold was bad. No doubt. A temporary mulligan awarded - to be redeemed Friday nite. Just don't color me overly confident he'll show signs of the old Akers the rest of the way.
Bloom can play. He returned well, returned from injury to gut it out, and caught a couple balls in the passing game.
Rocca is the punter for 2007 barring a total collapse in the final 3 games this summer.
Illoa stinks, and his fumbles continue- tho the 1 Im blamin him for tonite COULD be Kolb's error, he (Illoa) wasnt ready for the handoff it seemed, and went to block and it bounced into The Ravens hands.
I actually think it hurts the Birds if LJ cant return, but I think between Schoebel and Celek, they may be better equipted to weather that loss than if it occurred at other positions (Dawkins, for example- the Safety tandem of Mikkel and Considine looked vulnerable at times out there).

So how big of a nerd am I to be amped about watching a tape delayed preseason game on TV?
...yeah, anyway...
My thoughts on what I saw:
First Quarter -
Love the size of the starting LB. This group could be special this season.
DB's had issues this game, but I keep reminding myself it's a preseason game.
I have no effing idea why Westbrook is getting any time. What, he needs to learn the playbook? Reid doesn't know what he brings to the table?
The OL was OK in blocking. Nothing truly inspiring (nor expected) in their reps. Second string OL looked fairly out of sync.
Akers kick was horrible. Couldn't tell if it was the hold or not.

My personal thoughts:
- Pat McCoy and Maricio Lopez need to be cut tonight. Do not wait until tomorrow as those were two of the poorest showings I've seen. In my life. On any level.
- I loved Hunt on the pass he caught underneath, but was thoroughly unimpressed with his running. No wiggle at all and ran WAY too high. I like that he hits people with a dull thud and I think he might be useful late in games as a battering ram, but he didn't impress me tonight. That said, the lines got eaten alive too...not like he had a chance. His blocking also blew. I think he ran with the second team tonight simply because Buck is too fragile to risk out there, though.
- Gocong did okay but I was looking to see a lot more snaps. He put a lick on McNair on the first snap and showed some decent range, but his blitzing was chaotic and his pass drops were robotic/lumbering. Again, this isn't a slam on Gocong so much as a snapshot of where he is after one game as a linebacker.
- Bunk looked really good, IMO. It's tough to say whether linemen are doing a good job sometimes because you don't know what their responsibilities are, but he was making plays.
- Gaddis appeared to be around the ball more than Pacshal in the race for the 4th S. He also seemed faster/more athletic.
- Considine looked bigger and was flying around/hitting people. Good to see, though he shouldn't have had to make so many tackles.
- Gaither was gassed. I don't know if it was all the special teams work as Ike suggested, but they might as well ahve left Trot out there if their "speed/cover" backer was going to be on his heals, with his tongue dragging, waiting on a play and finishing with a bad angle.
- Ike...love you man. That said, I don't think it's possible that the Eagles are "expecting big things" from everyone. Then again...
- Moats...I was rooting for you, but happy trails. If they can IR him it's a no risk move, but that appears to be th end of the line.
- I really like the physicality and athleticism of Barksdale, but when they said he was "raw" they really meant it. He should have been called for a couple PI flags when he didn't even turn around, but I liked the flashes he showed. Maybe practice squad this year?
- Nick Graham played well. He's looking like the 5th CB to me, though Barksdale still has a shot if he can clean things up.
- Abiamiri and Bradley looked solid...not bad and not great. Another message to Ike: Yes, it was a little early for the Strahan comparison.
- Bloom impressed me with his toughness and straight line quickness, but he didn't appear to have the home run gear and seemed to have difficulty finding a seam in the return game. I thought he looked very strong on Punt returns and a little tentative on kick returns. If he doesn't break, he's an upgrade as is but I hope that as he gets his legs back and feels more comfortable he'll improve.
- Spikes made some plays and missed some but didn't look old or slow out there.
- Seriously, someone has to put Pat McCoy down. He was whiffing on second and third string ends lined up on top of him. WHIFFING multiple times.
- Justice was up and down. Still tough to evaluate him with that scrub unit. All the lines got dominated, but after the first unit left it was a shitshow.
- Celek did a great job. The RAC ability was not something I expected, even if it was in slow motion.
- Sav's leg is amazing. Dirk also came to play. It should be an interesting battle but you have to believe that if they can trust Sav to hold his power is just too intriguing to pass on. That 65 yard punt was closer to 70 by my estimation and don't forget that he did it on a short drop with his back against the goal post. Very impressive.
- Matt McCoy was easily the best player wearing green on defense today (IMO). He was flying around, thumping people, and was all over the ball. Very good night for the little guy and I just kept thinking "If he was 3 inches taller and 25 lbs. heavier, he'd be a monster.
- Jeremy Clark seemed to play well. He just kept flashing in the screen.
- Kolb throw darts and it's easy to see why they like him. He's got a nice arm, he's decisive, he's completely unaffected, and he just looks like a field general out there. He made his rookie mistakes (thank God they don't need him this year) but he showed the talent and intangibles.
- In general, they may want to consider packing Holcumb and Kolb in bubble wrap if they are going to trot them out behind those lines again. Putrid.
- Overall, I thought the first unit looked sluggish. The second unit looked a lot faster, but similar results...they got trucked.
You can't learn much from a pre-season game other than the glimpses you get of players, but you certainly can't feel good about getting your butts beat if you're the Eagles. I know it's vanilla, but it would have been nice to see them a little sharper or fresher. Onto Friday, though.

Second Quarter -
McCoy has been abused at RT so far. Unbelievably so. 4 absolutely wretched plays in the 2nd quarter alone. Winston Justice also stood out for the wrong reasons in this quarter too.
Probably watching the line play more right now (how Spudsian), but Bunkley has looked really good so far. This guy is strong and had a knack for making plays with his hands.
Liking Bloom so far too. Decent speed, looks to have good hands, doesn't waste time dancing when he catches it, and seems to have good vision on the fly. Seems to have some toughness too. Then again, he was going against the Ravens players hoping to at least make ST right now.
(This is delayed, so I know some of the outcome. I REALLY don't like Spuds mentioning how there is a spot for Mahe to come back with the loss of Moats)
It's weird seeing a number 10 for the Eagles with no neck beard. Koy was with the team for quite some time.
The officiating is quasi-NBA like. I guess these guys need the work too.
Amy is still my favorite cheerleader.
McCoy leveled Boller. Too bad he needed that much time to allow that play to happen. Then he added a couple of nice open field tackles too.
I'm shocked that pre-season play has this many stunts and blitzes, especially for the first game.
An obligatory Hank Baskett sighting (nice catch and another nice "interception breakup") with my obligatory UNM pride attached...Go Lobos.
Celek is making me not so nervous about LJ's health right now. A TE that doesn't immediately fall down...or fumble...or both after the catch could add a new wrinkle to the offense this season.
Barksdale hasn't figured out how to turn his head around when he's trying to break up the play yet.

Third Quarter -
Scrub time. As "big" as the Eagles starting DL is, the scrubs are still on the smallish side.
It's Kolb time. Like the confidence, but some of the throws/reads scream "rookie". I think he certainly has a chance to become good.
Graham and Gaddis both look like they can be assets in a short amount of time. They certainly have wrapped up well on their tackles so far...
...that said, the screens/quick passes are killing the scrub squad. Ah, the joys of preseason football.
Bloom looks like his toe is bothering him. He is visibly limping after his touches.
That Moats injury looked nasty. You could see the foot flopping around when he lifted it. Ilaoa's chances of making the team just increased dramatically. (which takes him up to about a 5% since Spuds is already mentioning Mahe on his web comments) I almost feel bad for Moats right now.
Man, Kolb is not afraid to put a throw into coverage. Not 100% convinced that its a good thing as it's hard to see the whole receiver picture on just TV. Wonder if the Eagles will go to that much shotgun formation when/if Kolb is ready in a few seasons?

Fourth Quarter -
Effing Rocca! I have refused to give a cr@p about the punter thing so far, but this dude has sold me. He took the cheap ass shot and effing smiled about it after consecutive nice punts. I heard about this play beforehand, but it was still impressive.
Not that Jamison had any shot at this years squad at all, but his fumble might make him the first cut. (Or second as Pat McCoy might be hitching back to Philly as I type)
Kevin Curtis reminds me of Seth Meyers from SNL.
I was really hoping to see something better of Ilaoa this game. Especially in light of the Moats injury.
Apparently the horse collar penalty is no longer enforced as I've seen at least 2 which weren't called.
The 4th quarter scrub receivers have absolutely no shot at making the team whatsoever. Wonder what Kolb could do with the starters? (hopefully its a year or two until I find out)
The Eagles FB's have been atrocious tonight. (especially catching the ball out of the backfield)
I'm not sure that the Eagles could have started the preseason much worse. I'm assuming they will improve, but the injuries are already somewhat troublesome, and then they lose Moats / Spuds mentions the possible return of Mahe. I would hope that the starters don't see ANY significant time until the season starts. Bring on the Panthers.

"All in all, it was not a very good performance all the way around, from the first unit down to the last unit," Reid said. "
From what I saw last night I would have to agree with that assessment.
Very painful to watch and not much entertainment value.

Are you serious, dude? You think the Eagles would be better off with Kolb in 2 years than #5?
Can I have some of that crack? 5 will be here for 6 or 7 more years, minimum.

DGB- its not what the F.O. EXPECTS- that they'll be better off in the short term, WHEN Kolb takes over for 5 in 2 yrs, but its the plan and its goin to unfold that way more than likely. In the long term, as McNabb continues to age, and even assuming he stays healthy for 2 full seasons, they'll likely be just fine/better off as McNabb's career winds down or worse.

I am not expecting a lot of wiggle outta Hunt, ever, and we all know the kid runs straight up and down and he'll need to lower the pads at least SOMEWHAT.
That said, I was leery before the draft, of how he'd adjust to the NFL, happy the selected him and after last nite, feeling solid about the selection.
I think he'll continue to improve and is an upgrade and asset to the backfield's depth.
